if we don't travel at speed of light but accelerate towards it then wonderful effects such as length contraction takes place so we can actually reach a star that is about 4.2ly away in less than 4y.

Difference between Islam and Christianity is there is no conflict of religion and science; In the Middle Ages when Europe was in the Dark Ages, the Islamic world and Islamic Spain were in its golden ages where science and religion went hand in hand
@tavisclemmer63719 жыл бұрын
When the understanding of the universe through science advances past the fiction of religion there will always be conflict between the two. The golden ages represented a time when little could be factually proven and through a method, reproduced reliably with near exact results (to be known as the scientific method). Before then even religion played a role in explaining the world. It plays no role here other than, in seldom cases, providing a moral compass for some people. Fiction (religion) will eventually be exposed when posed as law, always. Hope you have a nice day, because afterall, it could be your last ;)

That may have been the case back in the day, but that has changed. Where are the achievements of the Islamic world in the scientific arena in recent times?
@AmmaribnAzizAhmed9 жыл бұрын
There are many factors why the Islamic world is in the mess it is and I don't want to play this victim mentality but Western colonialism and imperialism certainly has played a part in creating a chaos and exploiting the resources from the region (same can be said of Africa)

Any dogma conflicts with science, because science is the antithesis of dogma. So any religion that is based on dogma will conflict with science.

"In the early 900s, the Muslim scientist al-Battānī calculated a solar year as being 365 days, 5 hours, 46 minutes and 24 seconds. He was correct even without modern technology. The golden ages of Islamic science were spurred by the injunctions in the Quran and Hadith (Prophetic sayings of Muhammad) that encourage seeking knowledge. Achievements such as this were a direct result of Islamic belief." via Lost Islamic History on FB

Is deGrasse Tyson shooting his mouth off again? The most over-rated physicist on the planet: Neil deGrasse Tyson. Take it from another physicist (who also teaches astronomy), Tyson wasn't saying much and usually doesn't. Neil deGrasse Tyson and Mike Tyson do have one thing in common: You’re never quite sure what will come out of their respective mouths.

He gets people interested in science you dope, his job is not to say super deep and complicated stuff. Nobody thinks he is the smartest physicist, but he is a very good story teller.

It says on your link that you're a chemistry Professor and that you juggle food for the amusement of children. It also says you have a "Bologna Detection Meter". I liked Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World" too, but I wouldn't change one word (he had a "Kit" and you have a "Meter") and claim it as mine. Speaking of Prof. Sagan he saw the talent, intellect and enthusiasm of a young NDT. This man worked very hard to get where he is and has carried on Sagan's legacy of getting, not only children, but the public at large, interested in science. If educating the public about science (which, if you were really acquainted with his work, you'd realize he does excellently) is something that matters to you, you'd recognize the value of what he does. In this instance, you used the plea to authority fallacy (in all your arrogance you note yourself as the authority) instead of providing an actual critique with actual examples about what you find so objectionable about NDT. That might be something you would want to add to your Bologna Detection "Meter". If it's already there, then you might want to use that meter on yourself. You don't get to be the Director of the Hayden Planetarium and a research associate in the department of astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History by accident. Anyone can have clown hair, give out lollipops and get attention from kids. But to engage them in what you're saying and to make it understandable with true humor rather than old uncle jokes takes true knowledge and and ability to communicate that you don't have. So why is the educational equivalent of Carrot Top so jealous, bitter and angry?
