I remember in concert seeing Neil flip a drumstick up beyond the stage lights, still playing with both feet and his other hand, no look-catch, as effortlessly as if someone had just handed it to him...Godspeed Neil Peart, a dazzling presentation of what humans can be capable of...

Yea, my most noted talk about Pert is just that as well, 30=40=feet in the air and hes not even looking at it... catches... im like, fuck...... the drumming is great but that catch is even more better.

@@RobMonty248 I was just telling the guys at work this very thing last week. We were talking about concerts we'd been to and this is the first thing that always comes to my mind. As a drummer, I was watching him intently the whole night and when he threw that stick and caught it like that, I was floored. Even though it was in the late 70's, I can still see it like it happened last night.

I realize that the original comment is from eight years ago. But, find it appalling that you give credit to an imaginary sky god when Neil's amazing skill came from his constant practice and learning throughout his career. He continued to take lessons and studied different drummers and drumming styles until he retired. Give credit where credit is due; Neil and only Neil.

My ticket for the 1993 tour of North America had me sitting above Neil at the Phoenix state fair Arena, and I was wise enough to bring binoculars to a concert for the first time! Despite the best seat in the house to watch Neil, the binoculars brought me into a much closer, private world with Neil. I could see his sweat fly, I could read his facial expressions, I could see the spittle building up on his lips. I had seen Rush a dozen times prior to that night, but watching Neil from such a personal POV that night provided me with an experience that I didn’t know I craved! My eyes were glued on Neil for an entire show. It was akin to witnessing (insert “greatest ever” here) to seeing Mozart or Beethoven perform. It will be generations before another Neil Peart arrives. So grateful that we got to enjoy him while he was human.

Dont know whats so special about Peart...best ever?? If this is "hard",check out Minneman,who plays 4 different odd time measures with all four limbs and he plays all that in lets say 19/16! Peart is legend,but he is not best drummer,not even close. His technique was stiff,solos are based on random single strokes played over 1000 pieces kit,... He was good,he is a legend,but,best drummer ever and things like that...funny :-)

3:00 I can't believe how the feet can keep the beat (double tap on tambourine and one on bass drum in an RLL pattern) while the hands are doing all that, including lots of crazy syncopations and offbeats. Simply unbelievable. Note: I'm a drummer.

Not taking anything away from him, but that is a sequenced tambourine. Around 4:07 would just about be impossible to maintain, even for Peart, the greatest drummer ever. There are other solos that have better lighting and he's using the same tambourine sequence. For the record, I was fortunate to see him 4 times, including the Permanent Waves and Moving picture tours and have been a massive fan since A Farewell to Kings!
@abcdefu359
@abcdefu359 4 жыл бұрын
Az Drummer no, that actually is his left foot maintaining the sequence! He stated in interviews how when he first practiced the sequence, he could barely keep single strokes on the snare yet, after having done it for years, he gained total independence with his arms in every way while keeping the RLL pattern.

Note to heaven: Heaven.....your about to receive in my opinion ....one of the best...if not the best drummers or percussionists to have beat the skins since John Holmes. He's the definition of a drummer. He must be looked at as one of the best to do it. If not the best. He's well respected and can go from jazz to big band....to heavy solo stuff.... to warp speed quickness and agility..... to stuff the stratosphere is shaking its head in disbelief. A modern day drum God. What a loss to his family and friends and his fellow bandmates.... and all people who love music.... and the many Rush fans out there who are mourning his loss......RIP MR.PEART ...

I know I'll get a bunch of crap for this ,BUT, Neil was very impressed by Perter Criss when they toured with KISS in the 70s when ALIVE ! was hitting . I have talked with Peter ,Moose ,who was the head tech for KISS until the Destroyer tour. Anyway Neil got that Peter Criss was actually a jazz drummer trying to play hard rock ,and took lessons from Gene Krupa, one of the best drummers ever. Peter was good when he was just s tarting ,and before too meant drugs . Anyway ,Neil noticed that Peter would take the bottom drum head off ,and Mic them like that and a few other things . Of course, there is no comparing the 2 ,but, itsvan interesting thing to know. You can look up old interviews ,he does talk about him and Peter while they toured together and what He picked up .
