Farm Aid

14 жыл бұрын

Neil Young sings "Heart of Gold" at Farm Aid in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985.
Neil Young is a co-founder and board member of Farm Aid, along with Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Funny enough his voice isn't the greatest, traditionally speaking, but the mere fact that he writes his songs, plays them, and harmonica/vocals. He's a gem. there's just something about him that screams star. He's gained his respect. Very much 1 of my idols, and the reason I play harmonica

I want to live, I want to give I've been a miner for a heart of gold. It's these expressions I never give That keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old. It keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old. I've been to Hollywood I've been to redwood I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line That keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old. It keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old. You keep me searching for a heart of gold I've been a miner for a heart of gold. And I'm getting old.

I just wanted to say that I love Neil's "Old Man" and "Heart of Gold". Those two songs will forever remind me of my mom, Frances D.Goldsworthy, who died from cancer on January 4, 2015. They were her favorite songs, and my son, Mark Jr., would play them on guitar for her this past summer, as we sat outside in the sun. It was a bright spot for her as she suffered in pain from the cancer. We actually wanted to mention this in our mom's obit, but found out later that there was not enough money left for us to even publish an obit in the newspaper:(

i went to this concert and let me tell u it was similar to woodstock,12 hours or so of music, great bands, rain, and peace,.look up the lineup for this concert and u will not believe the people, and bands that were there! i traveled from KY. to ILLINOIS in a green vw microbus -get it? anyway after partying for 3 days, on the way back everyone fell asleep -including the driver.totaled the van,cop put us on the road and said"i dont want to see u hitchhicking neither"so we ended up walkin to SEYMOUR INDIANA,where JOHN COUGAR is from,we didnt have the money for a motel so we stayed at the old drive in movie theater that is in his small town video i think, he also debuted SCARECROW at the concert.that was an awesome experience,i am fortunate that i have been to A LOT of concerts! i loved neil young so much ,i named my son after him! any one that went to this concert please let me know. this was the most underrated concert ever!

It's too darned bad that our "Lawmakers" don't care 10% as much as our Musicians. The MUSICIANS Have HEART but the "Lawmakers" are merely self-serving parasites who make our problems worse!

i was struggling to learn how to play the guitar when my father told me that i should learn the basics of heart of gold. of course, it was never easy- i don't think i quite learned how to play it. but i was glad he introduced me to a great song, and to neil young for that matter. that was 13 years back. my father died seven years ago.. i remember him every time i listen to this song. brings out good old memories. :)
