Farm Aid

13 жыл бұрын

Neil Young performs "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" at Farm Aid in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985.
Neil Young is a co-founder and board member of Farm Aid, along with Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Well, that's a moot point. I'm here to point out that Spotify reacted wisely to Young's ultimatum, and that it should be the way such ultimatums in general should be handled. P.S.: If one's art is only allowed to be consumed through a certain political lens, you can keep your art and put it where your solar panels have no jurisdiction.

I'm 27. The love of my life lost his dad to suicide in 2019. His dad loved Neil Young more than any other musician. My love was the most incredible musician. He took his life in 2021. We used to always cover Neil songs together up at Sundance. Feel like I'm a baby of the 60s with the level of attachment I have to this music.
@carybaney2548
@carybaney2548 10 ай бұрын
This song is not referencing suicide. "It's better to burn out, than to fade away" is specifically referencing continuing to the end, rather than leaving. This is why Mr. Young quit performing this song, because he was so badly stricken with it's interpretation. "Out of the blue and into the black. They give you this but you pay for that." Speaks to the next world where you are rewarded but you pay for past mistakes. The black is out there, but do not go until the end. You were put here with love always from our father.

Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There's more to the picture Than meets the eye Hey hey, my my Out of the blue and into the black They give you this, but you pay for that Once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black The king is gone but he's not forgotten Is this the tale of Johnny Rotten? It's better to burn out than to fade away The king is gone but he's not forgotten My my, hey hey Rock and roll is here to stay Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die ...

Always been a massive music fan, now 43, and the biggest regret i have in listening to music is that i never appreciated Neil Young until possibly the past 12 months, yet i suppose i am lucky that i have the rest of my life to catch up.....this song especially resonates with me......what writing, talent, a one man band generating such emotion into one song. Some of the lines in this song are some of the best lyrics you could ever hope to hear; Its better to burn out than to fade away Out of the blue and into the black Once you're gone you cant come back Wow, just wow. I now listen to this song every day, it is the only way a man can catch up, coz once you're gone, you can't come back
