One thing to keep in mind. This is year 2 batman. Bruce is still young and caught up in being the batman. He doesn't know how to be Bruce,yet. Not until the end when he realizes that Gotham needs hope. This is when he will start being the public philanthropist playboy billionaire. I like to think of this movie as Bruce Wayne's origin story.

To me it seems like they are setting up the story to next focus on Bruce helping finance the rebuilding of Gotham thus establishing his Bruce Wayne persona and allowing him to be both vengeance and the hero at the same time. Hoping we get more of Joker but not full on Joker. Leave him in Arkham for 2nd movie but include some scenes or flashbacks setting up a 3rd film down the line. But have Batman focus more on other villains. Perhaps throw in the court of owls teasing more Wayne corruption in the past. Lots of ways they can go. This is my new definitive Batman.

Selina being Falcone's daughter comes from The Long Halloween and its sequel Dark Victory along with the Thomas Wayne connection where he saved his life. There was a lot of pick and choose in this movie, but the majority has influence from some comic continuity.

Absolutely loved this reaction, my absolute favourite moments was the first 15 minutes where the fear of batman is on full show here as criminals and thugs run for their lives as they look up and see the symbol of the bat line the night sky. Second favourite moment is the ending monologue where Bruce realises he needs to be a symbol of hope and that his total obsession with vengeance and the dwelling of his parents death actually led to inspiring the riddler and furthering Gotham's turmoil rather than saving it, leading to hopefully Bruce becoming that "billionaire batchelor" type persona that can actually do good for Gotham in the light as well as batman in the shadows Fantastic film overall. Fantastic reaction Subscribed 👍

This movie is so sophisticated, uses a lot of Kubricks layered narrative techniques, 2 movies in one with a skewed view of Bruce/Batman from the riddlers perspective as he’s essentially the narrator of this story (all those weird green lens flares - the bat signal lighting green, riddler mask shaped background objects..they’re not accidental or incidental). Keep an eye on the subtle or not so subtle little things Bruce or Batman does that undermine his supposedly selfless actions…like not answering Selina over the contact lenses, it’s in every scene he’s in. I was so surprised and impressed by this film as I was not expecting those little cinematic trick Oh…the gang initiate at the beginning…he’s a cop in the jail cell when Batman regains consciousness. Penguin always tells the truth to or about Batman, and Selina keeps offering him alternative paths to his current course of vengeance and riddlers final plan failed at exposing the lie of Batmans methodology - vigilante justice…he knows perfectly well who Bruce/Batman is. (At the end, the first person he tried to reach for in the red flare scene was the mayor and she flinched away from him so he shifts his stance to the kid, and she refuses to acknowledge Batman after the disaster…her name is also important to the secondary narrative - the real war, Bella Réal, someone Bruce ignores as an option to fix Gotham)

The use of "Ave Maria" as The Riddler's motif is genius. It also works on two levels. The Catholic prayer ends with _"Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death"_ Which literally invokes the sin of the victims and their imminent death at the time the music plays. The Sir Walter Scott poem that Schubert based his music on interestingly could be interpreted to apply to The Batman (the protector) and Bruce Wayne (the orphan of a slain father.) _"Foul demons of the earth and air, From this their wonted haunt exiled, Shall flee before thy presence fair... And for a father hear a child"_ It's a bit of a stretch in context, but I still like the comparison.

Someone asked me how The Batman got a PG13 Here in the states and The Matrix got an R rating. And I told them because the MPAA was bribed by WB to get the Batman lower lol. Compare both of their official ratings. The Batman even has more F words. "The Batman: PG13 for Strong Violent and Disturbing content, Drug content, strong Language And some suggestive material." "The matrix: Rated R for Sci-fi violence and brief language." The Batman is far more inappropriate for kids than the matrix yet that is rated for 17+ and this is for 13+...

Great review. Loved this film when I saw it in the cinema. I think there are a couple of flaws in the film, a bit about Riddler knowing or not knowing about Bruce being Batman, I think that could've had a clearer answer. Plus Riddler's final plan to be destroying so much of Gotham felt a bit odd for someone so meticulous with his other kills. But I still liked it alot. I didn't mind the long film length as it really fit the tone, I would like cinemas to reintroduce intervals though. Great commentary throughout. On the note about some superhero films not being realistic enough, have you considered watching the TV show The Boys? It's super gory but also has a lot of real world satire about capitalism and pandering.
@sumonjamal1653
@sumonjamal1653 2 жыл бұрын
The Riddler's final plan was to kill the elite of Gotham... the ones he blamed for his past suffering. His whole obsession was getting back at Gotham city and wiping out those who run & rule it... the explosions that flooded it were just part of his scheme. His online followers had the same agenda - to get back at those in power... those they felt did them wrong. The entire plot was similar to real-life terror plots that are too often executed in our world today (The 9/11 attacks come to mind)... People manipulated and radicalized online by sinister figures... plot and execute destruction and death for maximum impact as acts of "retribution"... If anything, Paul Dano's Riddler & his plot was too close to real life.

The is probably the most faithful rendition of some eras of the comic, and also has a bunch in common with the Arkham games, which are also a great take on the character. I don't think this is better than TDK though. Beautifully shot but it's so morose that it's not that compelling. The Nolan films, while with some flaws, have a lot more life to them.
