In the "comb the desert" scene, the actor who says. "We ain't found shit" was Tim Russ, who went on to have a great career including Tuvok in Star Trek, as well as other small roles in the Star Trek franchise.

Goddamn, I've never realized that Skroob is an anagram of Brooks. You always find something new to discover with these comedies. It took me ages to realize what the joke in Top Secret was about Nick's name.

I used to watch this all the time when I was younger, to the point of it getting stale, so it warms my heart that there's still humour in it that I'm only now appreciating, such as the Kafka reference.

A fun little detail is the George Lucas said that Brooks couldn't make Lonestar character look like Han Solo. So he made him to look like Indiana Jones. Just the layer of dad jokes this movie is packed with is quite amazing.

The guy in the diner was John Hurt, who played that same character in Aliens. That, and the whole joke about the merchandise was because Mel Brooks went to George Lucas to get permission to spoof and the deal was yes, but no merchandise can be sold. So, unfortunately, no official merchandise was ever made for the movie. You should watching Mel Brooks' History of the World Part 1 next. :)

ILM, George Lucas' special effects company, helped in post production. The escape pod scene even used footage from A New Hope. And all of the previous movies that Mel Brooks directed can be seen in Mr. Rental.

I was 11 years old when this came out and saw it at the cinema, I had no idea it was a 16, so not sure how I got in there, but since then it has been one of my favourite comedies, so quotable and silly. I have lost count how many times I have seen it over the years.

I was not too cool for this one when it came out in theatres. I love Star Wars, and I had seen and loved Brooks's Blazing Saddles and Silent Movie. So I dragged my dad with me to see it and we both loved it. His favourite joke was 'You said that three dunes ago.', while mine was and still is the line 'I'm my own best friend.'. By the way, the 'rebel bass' quip was great, wish I'd thought of it myself.

The original Star Wars landspeeder effect was actually done with a mirror (and then touched up a little to make it less obvious). Yep, that was Dick Van Patten from "Eight is Enough". And did you get the Michigan J. Frog reference? If not you need to see "One Froggy Evening".

"Spaceballs": Mel Brooks took the "Weird Al" Yankovic approach, roping in the target to do heavy lifting in exchange for NOT merchandising memorabilia. Not a bad choice for a rollicking great time.;)

Ahh what a classic. A little dated but still fun. It's funny about the merchandise in the movie because I believe one of the reasons this even got made was on the promise that zero merchandise would be released. And I don't believe we ever got anything outside of the movie released in various formats. You should check out Robin Hood Men In Tights. Another fantastic Mel Brooks parody.

I didn’t get a lot of the jokes until I was older and had seen Alien, Battlestar Galactica (the original) and Buck Rogers. I think this was more timely, even 4 years after the last Star Wars movie because of VHS. I was still watching Star Wars weekly when this came out.

This movie never gets old to me, I just love it! And yes, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is a big fan of it, too. That's why some Tesla's have got a "Ludicrous mode" for very fast accelaration, and there are "Plaid" versions of the Model S and Model X with 0-60mph accelaration time of 2 seconds or even less.

Hi Daniel. My reaction to the pilot of AoS was part of my so-called 'Pilot Week'. I did 15 different pilots, and only selected 5 (The Boys, The Expanse, Rick and Morty, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The IT Crowd) to continue at this time. Which isn't to say I won't return to the other shows including AoS in the future. Unfortunately, I'm a one-man operation here and I can only do so many shows at a time.

The Pizza the Hut costume was disgusting, the actor who had to be in it could only be in it for so long because it was so hot inside it, and at one point, someone claimed to see smoke coming out of it. The first actor did a couple of takes, but then couldn't stand the heat of it, so another person had to get in it to finish filming the scenes.

I think the timing of this movie being a few years after the wrap of Star Wars was definitely by design. Previous Mel Brooks movies, and movie parodies in general, were meant to be more timeless to avoid being dated and the jokes tied to what would be forgotten pop culture. Yes, most had the odd joke here and there that were, but the bulk of the humour in things like Blazing Saddles or Airplane! don't need a specific knowledge of another work to be funny. The humour in Young Frankenstein even works without a ton of knowledge of the original work too, plus given the age of it it's not time specific here today/forgotten tomorrow pop culture. That is why I feel Spaceballs is really the negative turning point for Mel Brooks and parody movies in general; it started the bulk of the cheap, pop culture referencing, instantly dated parodies that killed the genre.
