Terry O'Quinn does such a good job on this show. The expression on his face as he is getting wheeled off the plane just says so much more than any words could. We know exactly how disheartened, embarassed and defeated he is feeling just by the look on his face. Amazing acting.

This season is a masterpiece. The way it all plays out is some of the best storytelling you'll see.

In the middle of this video I got a call from one of my sisters, that my mom is in ICU, in a coma. I went right over there and spent my evening watching over her. Two timelines is what I feel right now. But I don't know If she'll wake up or not. Sorry for writing this on here. But this was the last place I was in before all of this. My life suddenly feel like the end of season 5 of Lost. I've truly enjoyed all your Lost reactions. Thoughtful, great analytical mind and well spoken. I always loved the final season but I love it more and more with each rewatch. One of the saddest small moments of the entire series is Locke's face at the end of this episode.

The time on the plane and in LA was dubbed Flash Sideways or Sideways Flashes.

We did see Juliet die (again...), so there wouldn't be a point to get her to the temple. As our friend Benjamin said, "Dead is dead, there's no coming back from that". Also, I'm sure it's been mentioned in other comments, but we generally refer to the off-island scenes in this season as "flash sideways". Regarding Shannon, Boone told Locke that he went to Australia to get his sister out of a bad relationship, but it turned out she didn't want to get out of it - that's why we don't see Shannon.

Just watched you discuss you about to watch the pilot-it's so cool that you've got a full grasp on it, but check this out. I'm a series premiere watcher. I was in 9th grade, we went from recording on vhs tape to DVR to custom DVDs of each timeline. I have all the dots connected in my head, and I'm sure by now you've seen all, witnessed all, Lost, and found all. Here's a couple of tidbits I picked up along the way, this one most recent: When Desmond turned the failsafe key, that was the actual detonation of the hydrogen bomb, which actually did negate the constant buildup of the world's strongest electromagnet, which needed purging every 108 mins. I came to realize a long time ago, however, rather that had they not done anything, had they not gone from 2007 back to the 70s and rocksmashed an H-bomb underground, they probably would have lived out the rest of their lives in the past and the plane never crash. Remember Radzinski being all secretive about his 3D stick model of the swan station? If that's to be built on a flat surface, that looks like the excavation site to me, meaning the swan station was originally intended to be built above ground, with a metallic hatch over the hole they drilled into, serial number 4815162342. Instead, they intervened, detonated an H-bomb not strong enough to negate it, but enough to build a station adjacent to the energy (Look up "Lost: Via Domus" gameplay footage of what was in the other room), which now has a wider opening to surge out of, deeming the purging every 108 mins (108=42+23+16+15+8+4). There's a full extremely large and detailed PDF of the Swan station out there, I found it on the r/Lost subforum-still active daily! You can also find a blast door map pdf that producers confirmed were all little easter eggs, like CV1-6 (CIV) are "Cerberus vents," or places the black smoke entered and exited from. Season 4 and on were so short because of the 2008 writer's strike, this set a precedent for TV shows to run for a max 13 episodes a season, to forego the Sept-Nov sweeps, 10 week break, then either 16 straight through (as promised in S3: the first 6 (Juliette's interrupted "Downtown" book club through "Kate, Dammit, Run!" --heavy hiatus as they write the tattoo episode and decide to turn the story in the other direction, write towards an end, present a rough draft to ABC and lock in a 6th and final season. No Zombie season 7) or instead of nonstop fo the rest of the season, it was holidays, 6 weeks new, 3 weeks repeat. 3 new, 2 repeat. 2 new 2 repeat. 4 new it was terrible, wishing for a "Next Wednesday on Lost" and instead the voice says "In two weeks..." or even WORSE is at the end the dude says "...ALL when LOST returns March 23rd, only on ABC." and its like Feb 2nd. The video game shown another layer to the map, how to get to the reactor room. Ana-Lucia, Libby and Mr. Eko were not killed off because of actual coincidental DUIs, despite what the rumors said for years. "Burn it Down" is a book from someone who worked in the LOST writer's room and they were pretty awful back then. Extreme hazing, racial slur jokes, just the story of how Adewale (Mr. Eko) asked to depart from the show because he wasn't so comfortable living in Hawaii so far away from his family and the discussion amongst the heads of how they wish they could do it. Awful, awful stuff. But it got filtered away through great writing and I stand by the final season and the series finale. Everybody dies. Just not all at the same time. But when you do die, you're already there with the people that you're supposed to be with, after they each have died in their own time. Like, I'm not dead, my great grandmother is dead, and my child isn't born yet. But in my purgatory, my Bubby's there and my children, and we all move on together. tl;dr: this is Lost you should expect other Losties to sprinkle new passengers with knowledge. It'll be 20 years September 22, 2024 since the pilot aired and their plane crashed. It also has John Hamm (Gabriel) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Satan).

Just as Shannon wasn 't on the Plane Desmond was on the Plane because with the water underwater he never got stuck on the island so we can assume his life had proceeded and for some reason he ended up on the same flight as everyone kind of like he was always meant to be associated with everyone on the plane.

This is where things get wonky!

Wow. I have watched this show 2 or 3 times full through and now seen at least 3 or 4 reactors go through it as well. I thought I understood this show as well as I possibly could, but I was wrong. This final season always confused the crap out of me. I was always looking at these "flash sideways" the wrong way. The difference in the characters and series of events was always unexplained and bizarre to me. In my head, the bomb going off was only going to make it so the plane doesn't crash and everything else remains the same. How stupid of me!! Of course a bomb going off and sinking the island would have much more of an effect on the world than just a plane crash. That happens in 1977. Nearly 30 years before flight 815, time was altered. So of course there would be differences in how the lives of certain people turned out... For some huge differences and for others small or insignificant differences. Anything small that changed could mean huge changes for individuals 20+ years down the line. The butterfly effect. Meeting or not meeting a single person could cause your life to go in a completely different direction! That's why Desmond is on the plane and Shannon isn't. It's mind blowing that something that confused me for so many years just clicked in my head in an instant. This show is the most incredible thing.

Don't know if you are looking for a new show to watch when you are done with Lost, but if so. Let me make a suggestion. Stargate SG-1. (You should watch the original movie first though as the show directly follows on from it.) That is, if you haven't seen Stargate already. Seriously though, i think you'll like it.

My speculation on the smoke monster's name - Esau from Jacob & Esau in the Bible. Esau lost his inheritance to Jacob in a careless moment when he thought his immediate appetite was more important. As regards to your speculation Neil as to what about Ben, Widmore and so on - since the island is under water, I can only assume in such a scenario that they would be all dead. Desmond still does his round the world trip but doesn't crash on the island and isn't trapped into pressing numbers every 108 minutes; there is no interference from Penny's father because he is gone so he is available for his life to go in a different direction and make a plane flight he would otherwise not have made. We don't yet know if he is with Penny or if Penny exists because she may not have been born. Shannon's lack of appearance is unfortunately due to the actress simply not being available so they had to make do. I'm personally a little unhappy with the explanation given -it doesn't quite gel with me - but sometimes adjusted timelines can make subtle unforeseen differences in other things as we have seen in The Flash. Perhaps there was no car crash and her father is still alive.

Widmore leaves the island after the purge. The Others have control of the barracks & the submarine when he leaves.

The bomb brought them back to where they belonged and even though Juliet's death was very sad the bomb going off may have actually saved people because Ben killed everyone in the Dharma initiative.

The man in black tells Jacob he knows he brought the black rock to the island( against their will) and is holding the man on black as a prisoner and will not let him leave. We also can assume Jacob brought all the losties to the island against their will. So explain how Jacob isn't the evil one and the man in black is against those evil plans

I’m loving these reactions, but I’m just going to repeat, Neil says with such certainty that we’ve seen the smoke monster take the form of Yemi and Christian, etc. It has never been stated or shown that that is true. At this point for him it’s just a theory. I don’t understand the confidence in this statement.

Sawyer was wrong to blame Jack. One, the plan was Daniel's, not Jack's. Even Sawyer knew this. But typical Sawyer, he needed someone immediate to blame. And that someone should be Stuart Radzinsky. If it were not for his drilling, Juliet would not have died. Wait a minute. Let me rephrase that. I believe that if Juliet had not been inside that pit in order to set off the bomb, I believe everyone would have died. This would explain why Eloise and Widmore were determined to get everyone back on the island, including Daniel.
