My grandpa was a watch restorer. He'd get watches sent from all over the world to repair and I sit on the step by his shed and watch him. This video has reminded me of great times growing up. Thank you.

why are you blaming "society"? Blame companies that purposefully sabotage their products so it won't BE worth it to get the item repaired. and instead by a new one all over. When youre poor, thats just the lifestyle you can afford. You decant afford to buy longer lasting products because they have a higher upfront cost. Its not wrong for people to survive the best they can when companies aren't upholding their moral responsibility to make products that last so there won't be so much waste to begin with. Their greed has lead to environmental catastrophe. Not the consumers.

My first watch was a mechanical one. I don’t remember the maker but it had jewels and glowed in the dark (Radium) and that was very cool. I said good by to mechanical watches as soon as electronics became available. Never have to wind them everyday. Now I have an Apple Watch - have to charge it everyday. See how far we have come.;-) Watching these videos is strangely attractive. Maybe some day I’ll get a mechanical watch again and wind it every day.

I am so in awe of this gentleman who cleaned and restored this beautiful Cartier watch. The patience and care in which he did so is absolutely impressive. Not to be flippant, but watching this video reminds me of when I was a child and taking apart my dad's Big Ben bed stand clock; no problem until I tried to put it all the pieces back together. I did not succeed. I think I was about six or so at the time. Dad was pretty mad. Haven't touched another clock since!
