Honestly I love Nemona. Aside from Blue, we never had a rival that was actually ahead of the player and the fact that even though she’s a champion ranked trainer, she handicapped herself so she can make you her strongest opponent which is a very unique way to make a rival. Also the Yandere Goku meme is by far one of my favorite memes in Pokémon series.

You wanna make it creepier for that "Same gym" line Nemona has? I started out on Path of Legends from the school at the start of the game, went to the grass Gym first...then eventually made my way over to the Bug Gym...which is the first gym on the gym challenge route if you go out the gate Nemona says to leave to follow her. That means she either used a Pokemon move like teleport (she HAS done this gym run before since she is Champion Level) or she took the flying taxi from one side of Paldea to the other JUST to follow my character lol. Because my character is female (I tend to pick female characters for the main Pokemon game I buy once that became an option back in the day), that makes her seem like a battle crazy yandere lesbian...which I swear was an anime character already but I can't for the life of me remember which one...

Magikarps evolution does actually make sense. It's based on the Chinese myth that if a carp manages to leap over a legendary waterfall called the Dragons Gate it will be turned into a dragon as a reward for its determination and perseverance.

Tbh Nemona is one of the best things of the game for me. I love the rival having that much presence and being like an actual good trainer lol (not that it's the first time but it's not always, exactly 5:14) and honestly I love her personality. 😂💯💖

At first, I hated Nemona, as she seemed quite 1-dimensional (like "Pokemon battle" was her whole personality) .... but as the story progressed and we got more insights into her character, I started to appreciate what Game Freaks did : She was a battle-Junkie that was at the top of everything in Paldea. She beat the supposedly strongest trainers of the region (although Geeta doesn't deserve her place as the Champion : what kind of moronic champion would have a Glimmora, a pokemon MADE for setting Entry hasard, and use it LAST ?!). Nobody in the school wanted to battle her anymore, even when she started pulling her punches. When you, new arrival, show sign of being good in battle, she gets excited. Finally some hope. When you show that you are actually really good by beating the gyms, one by one, then the Elite 4, she knew she found someone she could fight without pulling punches. When you finally beat her at the end of the Gyms Story, her reaction is the most telling : not only she found in us (the player) a friend, but also, at last, a rival. To her, that defeat is not sad, nor even a setback. It is way better : Finally, someone to fight with all her might. Finally, a challenge.

6:31 I can 100% confirm this is true. your pokemon will not knock out shinies. this is a very helpful tool when shiny hunting pokemon that have shinies that are not much different than their originals. for safety purposes i tested it on a sneasel since i didnt care whether i got it or not. i also tested that if you save your game before encountering a pokemon and reset the shiny will still be there. just some things to note if you shiny hunt make sure you turn off autosave if you are going to save before a shiny cause your game saves right after every battle

The shiny meme is actually super good. The only reason I noticed my first shiny during an outbreak was because my Umbreon kept refusing to attaack it while it chased me.

6:57 I read a lot of books from china for fun, and I think that Magikarp's evolution is based on a Chinese myth. According to the myth, there is something called the dragon gate at the top of a waterfall in some mythical Chinese mountain. Carps are well known to swim upstream, but the myth says that if one could go the extra mile and jump up over a waterfall and across the dragon gate they would transform into a dragon. As such, I think that Gyarados is supposed to be that dragon, making yet another Pokémon from Gen 1 like Charizard that should be a dragon but instead is flying type.

that thing about auto battles not killing wild pokemon is true, your pokemon would not attack it even if you send it out. There are a few clips where somebody is just randomly attacking pokemon but it didn't attack a normal looking pokemon. When they encountered it, the shiny star effects popped and it turned out to be a shiny ditto.

C'mon Game Freak, at least make her eventually challenge you with a team of 6 lv 100 Pokemons for the right to be rival, like a champion she's supposed to be. Oh, and as for the other reason... I think there is something wrong, when you feel obliged to lose to character, that you need to win against in order to progress.

Man, Hop was an amazing rival. He may not have been the best in terms of the actual battling but his character growth and story were top notch. Imagine trying to live in the shadow of your older brother, the unbeatable champion. Trying to be as good as he is only to realize that you're not. Then after calming and catching a raging legendary he realized what he actually wants to be is a professor. I like Nemona and all, she cool, but she's kind of a one note character. There's no real depth or growth to her.

I just did what I call a tourist run. I set my game to Spanish which I don't speak. Then snuck away from my kidnapper nemona in the very first area by grabbing a staravia on a cliff and having it fly me to the other side. From there I visited every mayor city aside from the one I was supposed to go to all while asking every person for directions in which they battled me for unknown reasons guess cause I don't know spanish then I came back and battled nemona for the second time. There is something magical about playing most of the game before you complete the tutorial. Lol.
