I feel like people forget that manipulators, don't have to ONLY manipulate or control people or their creations. I honestly think even the writer forgot. A big part of kurapica keeping his chains visable, was to trick people into believing he was a manipulator. And I feel there is soooooo much potential in the manipulation +enchantment of an objects natural attunement that isn't being explored.

hunterxhunter has the most intricate, unique, fascinating, and overall badass anime magic system in all media, that it's no wonder that Yoshihiro Togashi has to go into full hibernation in order to craft these abilities that not only interact with the rules he made in the universe, but with how they play with other nen abilities. Nen beasts are basically a JOJO reference

Something I noticed in the newest HxH-arc: Almost every ability a citizen of kakin uses is performed through a summoned creature (those who don't belong to the ostracized like the mafia and the "undesirables"). Also, they don't really learn nen the same way as the members of the hunter organisation. I believe that the seed-urn-ceremonie influenced the kakin-culture in a way that they use their "guardian spirits". Either this or Togashi really got into drawing something different than just humans.

I think a requirement to be classified as a Nen Beast is for the Nen manifestation to be capable of independent action. A prince wanted to commit suicide, but their Nen Beast prevented them from following through. Kite's Nen manifests as a sentient weapon that chooses its form on its own. It's different if it solely follows instructions from its user, like Pitou and Knuckles's nen.

In the case of razor and goreinu there nen beast would be considered emission. Razor has to call back his to regain his full strength to send a full power spike. Conjuration only takes a set amount of Nen to make and when your done with it and it goes away the nen doesn’t return to you. Goreinu’s being emission is a dead give away because when he loses consciences his nen beast go away while it is stated that conjured items are maintained as physical objects even while the user is incapacitated. Proof of this is when kurapika passes out his chains are still manifested. Hakaware also falls under this category.

as far as i'm concerned, the examples given at the last half of the videos are not nen-beasts. they are just abilities manifesting as a form of beast. nen-beasts on the other hand, have their own ability, or a little bit of 'sentient'. the line is blurred each time a new ability is shown in the manga, though... so they'd most likely become 'stands' by the end of everything.

I took nen beasts to be any conscious/sentient application of nen. That is independent of the user. So the guardian nen beasts arent controlled by their princes. Where as the teleporting gorillas if they require continuous conscious control would be more like nen puppets, that were conjured. And then manipulated. Similar to the rubber suit nen-men that one red head used during the York New arc, even tho he just filled them with nen with simple controls. Cookie, APR and IRS i would agree with the latter two also being a lovely example of how different practices of nen can overlap

Togashi should use a Nen beast to put out more chapters for him while he's on hiatus.

Thankfully HxH is so good, that whenever Togashi releases a new chapter it does the numbers so it will always be able to make a grand return . Again I wish him the best of health but 1. Either make your series monthly, that way AT LEAST it progresses 12 times a year rather than 0 to maybe 3 times a year or that much in two years 2. Bury your pride and work with an artist. Look at Kishimoto, after Naruto man said “aight never again lol I’m so big I can just hire a drawer and write the story”. I get Togashi puts time and effort into his work, which is why HxH is great, and respect that but it really needs to get moving. Lemme give an example, the Boruto manga isn’t moving the fastest because it’s monthly...but hey, at least it’s moving and that’s the important part, not the same can be said regarding HxH sadly.

Terror sandwich's natural nen beast can't be conjuration because it's invisible to non nen users. We've seen with neon's ghost, pitou's terpsichora, Camilla and Terror sandwitch that specialization itself can create nen beasts (but they seem limited to staying near the user's body).

I never considered APR, the Devils, Camilla's cat, Tepischora, or the Gorillas as actual Nen-Beasts. Always seemed like automatons that either represent the ability or carry out tasks with no actual thoughts like simple dolls or robots. Nen-Beasts are fully alive while they exist with even their own personalities like Blinky, the Nen-exorcist's monster, and Mad Clown.

Just imagine if Oda and Togashi teamed up and Hunter x Hunter ends with them getting to the Dark Continent, and then BAM, they're on Raftel waiting for Luffy :eyes:

Morel doesn't transmute his nen into smoke otherwise he wouldn't need the pipe, it's just normal smoke manipulated and bolstered with nen Maybe he would need the pipe if it was a condition to be met but that's just diving into speculation for an already established ability

So, you can create a nen beast using other means, so for example you use transmutation to shape its form, emission to separate it from your body, and manipulation to control it?

I love Razor's for the size variety and numbers, I love Goreinu's for maneuverability, and I love the Jar Nen Beast because they can be a different category, but fuck would it annoy me to not be able to see it; I'll have someone draw it, and probably regret it when I see how creepy is, if it looks like the others. And Nen Fish is just so zen, I could watch them swim around for hours.

I wonder if Nen/Nen Beasts can interact with/harm Stands.

In the case of Razor, I always assumed that all of the Greed Island creators were specialists and capable of using nen in ways that are extremely difficult or nearly impossible for others… essentially they can bend the rules by being specialists, and that’s how they all created something so insane. It would make sense that Ging would be attracted to people who have unique and rare abilities and talents and just raw power wouldn’t really interest him all that much… But a natural Emitter who can also use Conjuration at a high level would be seriously interesting… not to mention the way that they seemingly use types of nen in ways that make no sense… like the teleportation spells are supposedly emission as well? I don’t think so. I don’t think there is a clean or simple answer for anything on greed island… it’s all a mix and a complex system of combining different types of nen to achieve amazing things like conjuration and transmutation to turn things into cards and back… etc. I believe basically every single game related system uses multiple types of nen working together and it’s possible because the creators are special and capable of doing it.

one entity outside of hunter x hunter that would make a great nen beast is ashizogi jizou from bleach, kurotsuchi’s bankai. it has cool abilities that could be believable if it was done through nen. it would probably need more resitrictions though lol ‘cause it’s kinda op

I'd say the difference in distinguishing Nen beasts from general Nen constructs is the degree of autonomy. Not all Nen beasts have to be completely independent of their user, but they are deployed at the very least automatically to serve some purpose. I'd consider Bisky's Nen ability a Nen beast because it serves the singular function of providing massages, it does its purpose automatically and without the control or focus of its user. Morel's Nen ability, Deep Purple, is not a Nen beast because it requires his manual control to create and operate. Those smoke constructs have no autonomy except for the orders directly implemented by Morel, if he wasn't controlling them, they'd just be standing still or dissipate. Essentially, for me anyways, a Nen beast needs to have an autonomous function or niche skill that warrants little control by the user who created it. The user can guide the Nen beasts to tell it what to use its ability on or when, etc but their largely uninvolved in whatever the Nen beast is doing to employ its ability.

Morel is a manipulator and his smoke creations are smoke from his pipe that is mixed with his aura which is why when Pouf stole his pipe he couldn't make anymore smoke puppets. If his smoke is transmution then he wouldn't need his pipe and would be able to make smoke with just his aura like Hisoka creates his Bungee Gum. Transmutaion and Manipulation are opposite one another on the nen chart so there is no way Morel can give his puppets such complex commands that require high manipulation if he was a transmuter.

I think you're overextended when you add so many instances where nen user creates a Hatsu in the form of a conscious being. Like with Raizo, Biscuit, and knuckle. Nen Beast isn't a form of Hatsu from one of the 6 categories of nen but their own individual category with their own set of rules. Like a Special category inside the Special category. The few rules we can deduce by Tserriednich creating his own Nen Beast are: Are parasitic in nature meaning it requires a host to consume their nen for sustenance. Their host is unaware and unable to interact with then. They can act on their own will completely independent of their host control. In other words nen beast are unique phenomena that are born from an unaware person nen that consume their host nen and work independently. Meaning that all other instances where the user specifically uses their Hatsu to create a being to control wouldn't count as nen beast.

I really hope gon gets a nen beast later on . It would be AMAZING
