Devin, I believe the 1/2" flow sensor can only read flow up to 250gph (See neptue description). You would need to 1" sensor to monitor flow to monitor up 1500gph. I made this same mistake. I ended up changing my plumbing to 1" to allow for higher flow.

Although that UV is no doubt doing good things for the tank, it is most definitely way too small for that sized tank :) Handy tip for getting your flow sensor to last longer, make sure it is placed 1-2 elbows (or more) after the UV, the internals of the flow sensor do not like the UV light so a couple of elbows in your plumbing will cut off the light coming out of the UV into the sensor.

57W one was the only one that would nicely fit under the tank! hehe no space for a monster one! good points on keeping UV away from the sensor :)

Im running my uv off a mag 5 pump which should be 500 gph. Never thought about what it actually is doing at that gph. Algae or pests?? Who knows lol i need one if those flow meters

How did you find sealing the flow sensor with Teflon tape as I’m struggling to get it to seal I’ve tried tape and paste to no avail

first try it leaked, did a few more wraps then it was good after that.

Gr8. after Dr Tim Bacteria vid and UV being against the bacteria in water column, do we still need to run UV.

Bacteria still lives on surfaces so it will def take out some but it all

@@ReefDudes Based on your AquaBiomics interview, it kills a specific type of bacteria in all cases of UV use though. This has made me question using one.

@@__K__B__ I agree, mine has been off for a while too. But you have to remeber it wont kill it all. but it will knock down the numbers in the water column

@ReefDudes after having the flow sensor for 2 years, have you had any issues with it? Do you clean it periodically? Any need to replace it?

i actually havent used it in a while, I did some plumbing changes and took it out. it does require periodic maintenance

@@ReefDudes I see Cam with Gallery Aquatica using thick grey PVC cement/glue. I was thinking of trying that

@@Fish_Ventura I tried pvc glue that I used for hard plumbing too it lasted a day then leaked thought I would never be able to unscrew it after the glue but unbelievably it unscrewed easy, I believe it might be because the flow sensor is not pvc but a kind of nylon plastic

Neptune needs to make an ultra low flow rate sensor. Something down to something like 5ml/min. So I can monitor my dosing pumps/Versa/calcium reactor etc.

Out of curiosity, what did the old bulb look like? Was it covered in gunk? How often did you clean yours?

The old sleeve wasn’t to bad bad. I’ll vinegar soak it then have it to swap back next time

Mine had calcium deposits all around the quartz tube and in the inside. It looks like you are breaking glass when you clean it which is odd. And sometimes you can clean it by just scratching with your nail, but if you let it go for like 6+ months you have to soak with something (I used citric acid).

I've found these to be dismally unreliable. Work for a bit then start leaking or just stop working. Another cheap as chips rebranded neptune product punted out that here in the UK cost quite a lot.

Let me know if you get issues with the FMM module with the Flow sensor? I have to reset the FMM module every once a while using with an 1" flow sensor...Firmware is updated on all modules and using APEX 2016.

@@ReefDudes Once a month I have to reset the module...I have two other FMM modules but with only leak detection probes and they run fine so I'm suspecting there's a conflict with the flow sensor somehow. I'll have to submit a ticket to Neptune because I couldn't find any solution in their forums...
