Race idea from a recent DM. He had Dwarf Centaurs, Dwarf/Goat instead of Human/Horse. Dentavros was the name. Basically a centaur with some fiddling. Thematically was a hoot to RP play with. Our Cleric was one.

Tortle Death Cleric. Death cleric proficient in martial weapons but not in heavy armor but the Tortle is the heavy armor.

Tortle Life Cleric - You cast your Heal Over Time spells, such as Healing Spirit, then retreat into your shell until you are needed again. You can even go stand right in front of the bad guy and let them wail on you. You are an unkillable healing tank. Its fun to play. Oh and mine serves Aquaman, because why not.

@@Nerdarchy Actually yes! His backstory involves having to leave the personal service of Aquaman because he got to old, and had to retire in a "Judge Dread" sort of way where he also had to leave his society. So he is old, slow, sleepy, crotchety, etc. Can't dodge to save his life, but when you DM rules that his shell counts as Heavy Armor for the purposes of Heavy Armor Master, you don't really need to dodge, you just constantly ready an action to retreat into your shell at the first sign of danger, and bet on that beautiful 21 AC plus DR3 to cover you.

I've been playing a water genasi tempest cleric for the past 10 months. The race has good stats at +2 CON and +1 WIS, and a person made of water screams powers related to storms. He's also a sailor in a high seas campaign, so obviously he has a lot of skills well suited for being out in the ocean. It's a really fun and powerful character, imo.

Githzerai Tempest Cleric here. Makes for a good "Sith" type of character! They obviously get the +2 WIS bump but also get Githzerai Psionics = Invisible Mage Hand at will @1st, Shield 1/lr @3rd, & Detect Thoughts 1/lr @5th...The lightning themed spells work as "Force-Lightning". Season with Divine Strike + Spiritual Weapon + Spirit Guardians as usual...

Friend is starting up a campaign and I wanted to make a Tempest Cleric and I picked the Warforged so all the lightning / cloud stuff can be electricity and steam stuff for RP sake. It's not set in Ebberon so he's going to be a super early warforge type creature created by a gnome to be his chef/bodyguard. With him being more of a 'one of a kind' warforged I figured it would be like C3PO from episode 1 but with more stone and hardwood and not those super swole full metal robots. I was thinking the 'sigil' engraved on his head could be the holy symbol of Gond and that's how he gets his cleric powers. The God is the one looking to use him a vessel rather than having him trying to gain favor with a God. Still kind of working on the story but hopefully it'll be fun.

Light Domain is hands down my favorite Cleric and the only full spellcaster class I ever play. I chose Variant human to give it the War Caster feat at level one and I am invincible.

Aasimar forge domain cleric of Gond with guild artisan backgrounds was one of my favorite characters. He was a surrly melee combat healer who loved to swing a greatsword in battle as I gave him a weapon master feat.

I'm enjoying my Protector Aasimar Light Cleric as a caster. The Radiant Soul feature has me flying around the battlefield with burning radiance adding my level as radiant damage onto every fireball.

It's almost not worth it to spend a full action to heal someone; when I can just drop some nukes, and use Revivify after combat ends.

Firbolg arcane archer fighter level 12 and tempest cleric level 8. I cast guiding bolt, which gives me an advantage on my next attack. I use bonus action to dip my arrow in poison. I have thunderwave and other powerful spells to deal massive damage from afar. If I am in close quarters, switch to my halberd, dip it poison, and attack up to 3 times. Wrath of the storm allows me to counter attack with 2d8 lightning damage. Great weapon mastery allows me to attack again if I roll a 20. An dont forget the healing I provide!

We've shot sorcerers. That leaves bard, monk, and ranger. We'll most likely save bard for last. We tried to break up the prime stats. Nerdarchist Dave

I made a goliath forge domain cleric. Luckily the dm let me make an enchanted glaive with the elemental weapon spell for our fighter. The domain feature really falls of later. That +1 bonus was always used on armor. The channel divinity is thematic and allowed me to talk to the forgemaster of the smiths Guild of the dwarven city. I love the theme of it. The mechanical part of it is sad later though.

Yea I think that was of the things we brought up when we originally called reviewed the domain. I think a good house rule would we the bonus increases per tier of play. Or even every time proficiency bonus goes up. Nerdarchist Dave

Cleric has so many good racial options, There are a number of amazing Cleric domain/race combos. Here are my thoughts. Variant Human: Flexible points and a free feat. Amazing as anything but not very exciting. Hill Dwarf: Great in any Cleric Build Valenar/Aerenal/Wood Elf: Great on any medium armor wearing cleric. +5ft movement is always great, and Valenar/Wood have some useful martial weapon presidencies. Water Genasi: Similar to hill dwarf but not as good. Still good though. Firbolg: Great for any build, but shines best when melee. Kenku: Similar to elf and might be interesting to RP but not as many good secondary bonuses. Tortle: Great at non-heavy armor domains, dump that Dex. Kalashtar: Great for any, but best as a caster type. Warforged: Great for any build, similar to Hill Dwarf but a little less HP but more AC. Warforged Forge Cleric has an oppressive level of AC and can be quite a thematic pair. Centaur: Powerful melee Clerics, but might have trouble depending on the terrain of the campaign. Loxodon: Similar stats to Hill Dwarf but much weaker passives. Simic: Good stat spread with some extremely flexible passive choices.

Currently playing an Ent worshipping, Firbolg Grave Cleric w/Hermit background, "Chosen One" Terokka card, & the cursed Spirits flaw in the Van Richten's Masked Masquerade w/two groups of three PCs (plus two DMs). I'm loving it, even though I'm the only healer out of both tables. We have three Warlocks at one table, & a Barbarian & 🪄 at mine.

Yea #CentaurProblems are real. Wonder what happens when a centaur takes athlete or gets second story work from the theif archetype? Or build a strength based monk. Eventually you just up walls and across water. This will be my next character. Nerdarchist Dave

Water Genasi Tempest Cleric w/sailor background deity Valkur: +2 Con, +1 Wis, acid resistance, Shape Water cantrip. I rolled INSANE stats: 18(Wis19) 2 17's (Con19, Str17) a (13Dex13) and 2 12's (Int12, Cha12)

I haven't tried a cleric yet in 5e. I really like the Arcane Domain from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, and I feel human, elf, or half-elf really fit the best with that domain.

I just started a variant human war cleric and I really felt this was the strongest race for it if feats are allowed because of being to get the warcaster feat straight off the bat. Most of the spell list of the war domain are concentration spells. If you're up front doing melee, having advantage on your concentration checks saves you from having to recast spells and use precious spell slots, especially during early game.

Im currently playing a Kalashtar Madness Domain Cleric, it is so much fun!! I think everyone should try it at least once. I keep causing things to trigger Sanity checks from our DM and my cleric is all but immune to most things happening. Thematically and statistically it is soooooo much fun!

I play a protector assimar cleric, who serves Kossuth (Fire elemental lord). He is a light domain cleric. He is a thematic build. Part melee with a lot of offensive casting. All I can say is radiant fire wings!

I’m currently playing an Aasimar Life Cleric but he’s devoted to Tyr, a war god, because his background is that he served as a medic for the military. He’s an effective healer but also brutal on the battlefield in plate armor wielding a shield and spear. I named him Michael and have been archetyping him off the Archangel Michael which makes for great role playing

I made a Blue Dragonborn that was a Tempest Cleric. Not only does his breath attack match his domain but he has resistances to attacks related to his domain. Surrounded by a bunch of enemies? Cast Call Lightning on yourself. Resistance bring self damage to half and a successful save throw brings it down to quarter damage

I like a basic bitch Aasmiar, life cleric, healer, you get some extra healing, and light as you go, to keep doing your job, the back story rights itself, its role-play is obvious, you could probably get a lot of respect in your religious order just by being one.

Just finished a lv 1-20 campaign as a Half Orc Tempest Cleric named Ser Grunklestan Rockbiter. Can attest to the sheer awesomeness of The Cleric,I am now a convert .

I played a old UA Minotaur (The one with the D10 horns) Cleric with the Life domain called Dr Amadeus Feelgood, after the Motley Crue song. So yes, he was a drug dealer as well. Because he was the one they called Dr Feelgood, he was the one to make you feel alright.

I play a character named Cka’a, a Spriggan Cleric (Spriggan race sheet from D&D Beyond). My DM jokingly describes them as “Groot with a box of Band-Aids”

I just got here and i already know the answer. its the dwarf with the Dwarven fortitude feat, hands down best cleric no contest. The ability to dodge AND basically cast a level 1 cure wounds on yourself AND healing word someone in one turn is the ultimate value play. you free up so many spell slots for other things and you never have to choose between healing yourself or a teammate. and it scales great into late game, at level 4 they are very burst healing and as you level up they shift from burst healing to sustained healing, and no matter what level you are this feat effectively doubles your health pool.

Interesting route to go. I can honestly say we hadn't considered it. I'm it would be great as divine soul though. You'd be able to twin those heals. Nerdarchist Dave

@@kaldo_kaldo Dwarven Fortitude is a race specific feat from Xanathar's guide to everything. The feat give you +1 con and when ever you take the dodge action you can expend 1 hit die to heal yourself for the value rolled plus your constitution mod. Statistically your gonna average rolling the midrange value and since you can use this feature over and for every hit die you have. It mirrors your characters base health though it is a bit slower than say the barbarian resistance which also effectively doubles your base, although dwarf barbarians are gross now. It proteck, it attack, it gets HP back!?!?!

My next cleric will play in an ancient greece themed campaign where the dwarves are the main race. He will be a mountain dwarf death cleric of an Hades-ish god. He is an oplite and a ritual warrior that bless his war mates before the battle,stands in the falanx with them and helps the fallen to reach the other side in peace. Not even used yet and i already love him!

I made a High Elf forge cleric. Green flame blade into searing smite, take shilelagh from druid initiate, spirit guardians all around. Devastating and super hot

To me, lizardfolk is a great, tanky, race for a strength-based cleric. +2 to CON. +1 to WIS. A 30 ft. swim speed with 15 minutes of water breathing. Able to create Armor, weapons and shields from the remnants of their enemies. Hungry Jaws & a bite attack. Natural Armor. Hunter's Lore. Plus, a lizardfolk, you know the Draconic language for free.

My best cleric build both for combat and roleplay was a human variant with polearm master at level one. I went eldritch knight until lvl 6. The rest back to cleric grave domain. I stood my ground and kept the forces of evil at bay. Spell sniper to heal anywhere and use booming and green flame at 10ft on the polearm. Sir gregor of the shimmering star. Cleric of Pelor.

Spell sniper doubles the range of a spell. Green flame and booming blade have a 5 foot range. Spell sniper moves that to 10

Your right. It requires an attack. I didnt actually fill out my words. I had taken find familiar as eldritch knight. I used it to heal at range with touch spells

Currently have two Wood Elf Clerics in my game - one going Light and one going Life. They're fun domains, but I'm guessing Trance for quick long rests might be pretty good if the whole party were elves.

shame neither of them is a forge cleric, trance give you 4 hours a night to do crafting stuff.

@@ryanscanlon2151 Thematically, yeah, I love the Forge Cleric. But at some point, crafting something worth 100gp over an hour gets increasingly more situational. And it's not strictly 4 hours, as I understand it. You spend a few of those hours on watch, whereas the standard 8 hour rest includes 2 hours of watch. That said, having Fabricate is baller, for a bit of night time crafting, yeah.

@@Gladerunner2113 crafting 1000 pound blocks of iron to fabricate into expensive stuff is pretty powerful and take a bit of that iron to make 2 great swords to make into more iron block= infinite crafting. thats pretty strong

My personal favourite cleric I've made (actually my favourite character) is a Warforged War cleric. He was built for war, but choses to protect those who cannot defend themselves against evil. He also uses the fact he's a Warforged to make jokes. He uses thaumatergy (the cleric cantrip) to make his eyes glow red if anyone pats him on the back, then says "Dead or alive, you're coming with me". He took 1 level into fighter to get the protection fighting style. As to buy into the protecting those who cannot defend themselves.

Half-orc cleric here! They're probably better for a subclass like War or Tempest, but I was one of those dinguses who prioritized character concept over optimization and stuck Grave Domain on my boy. Although that's working out well too; you do *not* want to fuck with a tanky-ass healer who's got Relentless Endurance.

Playing a Half Elf Light Cleric with the arcalyte background, he has the highest wisdom and intelligence, at strong intelligence at 14, with a bunch of mental skills to use that intelligence and wisdom he brings to the party to full effect. His friends have the muscle and the charisma and he brings the sharp mind and a solid plethora of languages, while he isn't the strongest in a fight he dose have a skill set all his own I very much enjoy him being as cleaver as he is at times when it's needed.

Mountain Dwarf is good for everything. +2 to Con is great for any class. Too much emphasis is placed on ability bonuses at level 1 because at level 4 you get a +2 bonus to whatever you like. But Con is great for any character. And dwarves are classic coolness. Even the Hill Dwarf (the poor cousin of the real dwarves under the mountain)

Joined a Roll 20 Campaign with two Players. One is a Teifling Warlock, the other Human Ranger(he's focusing on the Bow and Stealth). Rolled my Dice:and my HIGHEST was a 14(and I had two of them),12,11,9,8 wrapped up the rest). I knew these two were going to need a Fighter and a Healer, so I chose War Priest. Mountain Dwarf was the best choice of the PHB Races I had available. After 6 Games/3 Weeks we had another player join us. Mountain Dwarf Fighter(Monster Hunter). I have no idea where he got that, but the DM approved it.

I love dragonborn, make for a tough cleric to be sure. Feels like a front liner with that resistance and strength and charisma, leading from the front and bringing the divine.

Rolled a Ravinite db subclass. 35spd +1 wis con dragon resilience breathe weapon. Solid choice. Went knowledge domain for story mainly. Called him Book Wyrum... I'll see myself out

@@KiyanOzdemir He's a reserved third generation healer whose family was chosen by Ilmater to atone for the atrocities committed by their line. He was a respected physician at a hospital before being abducted by bad guys and subsequently freed by the adventurers he currently travels with. A polite professionalism is his usual demeanor, but this may change as he develops.
