Unsurprisingly, the L.O.L Surprise stuff is made by MGA Entertainment, who also make Bratz, Smooshy and Lalaloopsy. They just have a thing for extremely unsettling and weirdly proportioned dolls for girls. Also, considering we're in an age where we're now having a war on single use plastic, covering one doll in three bags, three layers and a plastic ball isn't doing anyone any favours.

Fuck those LOL Surprise things, seriously. I can accept people liking them and collecting them, but just the sheer amount of unrecyclable plastic that's in a single one of those is horrendous, we're already polluting the planet way too much as it is, and now people are paying hundreds upon thousands of dollars to basically do that?! Seriously, if it weren't for the appalling amount of waste a single one (let a lot a set of 3, yes I looked it up, you can get a tube of 3, or a box of fuck 6 and there are limited edition gigantic ones ffs) of these things creates. Even Funko Pops don't really bother me, I'm pretty impartial about Funko Pops, and if it were just the capsules and figurines for these LOL Surprise things then I'd just shrug it off as another thing that's not for me...but that stupid amount of plastic really bothers me on a whole 'nother level. It just seems so bloody wrong...I'm hardly the eco-warrior type and usually don't get bothered by this kind of shit, but this blind sphere bullshit had struck some nerve I had no idea existed.

My mother got my niece a giant LOL toy thing that probably weighed like 2 or 3 kilograms in a semicircle that has like 100 little bits of tat in it. It cost nearly $120 Canadian, I fear for the future.

That third from last thing is the character Funghi, known as Nameko in Japan. He's from a series called Touch Detective. I'm currently working in Argos over the Christmas period and we sell loads of these daily. I had no idea what they were so this is enlightening to see that it's literally a load of crap. I do know there's a huge football size one that we sell for £50!

Those little dolls are vaguely reminiscent of Mattel's Liddle Kiddles from the 1960s. I found a space-themed one in a thrift shop in around 1999 for 25 cents, mint, sealed in its spaceship. it was just like a Happy Meal toy essentially, but since it had the original tag, and since I was a former Mattel employee, I recognized that the logo was the old style from the 60s, so I bought it despite not knowing anything about it. I sold it on eBay for $380. 25 cents to buy, sell for $380. That was my business model in the 90s, I did that sort of thing all the time. God damn, those were good days. I once bought a vanload of "nostalgic" chewing gum for $85 and sold it for several thousand.
