Nerdstalgic's latest upload about District 9's VFX is very similar to my District 9 video for 3 months prior.... to the point where.... it's not a coincidence anymore.
So in this video we draw a direct comparison between the two videos in an attempt to shine a light on this subject.
You can find my District 9 Video here:

I probably have ALOT more to say what they've done here. But i just wanted to get a quick video up ahead of the curb.
Anyway, thank you for watching!

I came here from the KZfaq Recommended Algorithm. I had never heard of your channel or Nerdstalgic before today, but having checked not just this video but your video library I am glad to have gotten recommended your channel. It always sucks to see good work go underappreciated or (in my opinion worse) go unnoticed. Let alone before it's copied and pasted for someone else's benefit. I hope your channel floats around in the algorithm a while longer to bring in more people because you do honestly deserve some love even before this happened to you.

A year or two ago, Nerdstalgic was accused of another video stealing. They appologised and explained that thw channel hires freelancer writers for the scripts, and Nerdstalgic just records the voiceover. They did promice to be more picky on future writers, bht apparently they're still doing that, unfortunately. There is no excuse.

Nerdstalgic very directly ripped off one of my videos, and used multiple others of mine as clear inspiration for their own. The video of mine they ripped off basically took a smaller part of one of my bigger videos and made it the sole focus, but they used a nearly identical thumbnail and title. When they were called out by my audience, they changed the thumbnail and title, but did not delete the video. The problem with these massive content farms is that they outsource writing to freelance writers, and they don’t pay a lot of money. They can get away with it so they have no incentive for quality control or ethics in their workflow.

It's the fate of all channels. I used to really enjoy CineFix for years, for example, because of their in-depth analysis of classic film (even if they did have a fetishistic obsession with The Third Man). Then, when they started to blow up, they started covering popcorn blockbusters and the MCU, which brought in the Zoomers and I guess a lot more money, but the comments where it used to be possible to discuss cinema-related topics brought up by the videos turned into the same middle school locker room as the rest of KZfaq.

Occasionally had horrible takes on games proving he didnt even play the game he was talking about, or he'd just parrot everyone elses opinions. Was also caught using other youtubers game footage without crediting them or consent and seemingly passing it off as his own. It was a shit channel, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even play videogames at all. He just jumped on the video essay bandwagon and knew how to edit slick videos

It happened to a friend of mine! She just started her channel about 2 months ago and we were both baffled when 2 or 3 days after she posted her first video a big channel with millions of subs had pieces of their video basically repeating parts of her video word for word! But other parts of their video were different, so it was weird. We thought we were going crazy but then it happened again multiple times with her other videos after that. How can these big guys know about a channel that's 2 months old with basically dozens of views only? The scenario of an obscure freelancer scavenging the bottom of KZfaq to dig out ideas and pass them through CHATGPT because they think nobody will ever figure it out, let alone prove it, makes total sense. I have to tell her that some scriptwriter has probably been stealing her content and selling it to the big channels for a profit. And, mind you, those are Christian channels you'd think they won't steal from others. But the fact that they pump out 3 or 4 videos a day and have been doing so for years makes so much sense now! They are content farms. They also repost their own videos multiple times a month under different titles and thumbnails sometimes they keep the same title.

For a channel that size, after already being caught for this, they need to require their freelancers show their work. The channel needs to make it actually harder for plagiarists to do this. I've had it happen to me as well with a huge channel that stole guide info that took dozens of hours for me to compile and he had at most couple hours total with the whole game lol. I was around 30k subs and he was well over 3M and nothing could be done about it At least you can get them back a little by using their huge name to get some exposure. Commenting to support you and your channel. We need more content creators who actually have unique perspectives and insights. Recently I've been going through various "retrospective" sorts of videos about movies or video games just so I can see if they've actually done any research beyond reading the Wikipedia, and I've come to realize that the least original content tends to see the most success. To see a massive channel poach substantive content from a ~500-sub channel like yours is just disgusting, particularly when there's very little that smaller channels can do about it. On the bright side, it does seem your video on District 9 is getting recommended (that's how I found this video), and hopefully you can build on that momentum. Might I recommend making a video about some Christopher Nolan movie, or perhaps more recently Denis Villeneuve, as those always seem to do well with the algorithm.

I came across that video a while ago, and I don't think I've ever watched their content before. It was just a very well thought out video, I really enjoyed. I'm so glad I came across this video in the end so at least now I know who actually deserves my sub haha well done mate.

I really like your content. I've had people steal content from me before as well. It feels awful. Especially when you pour so much of your time and energy into creating pieces like this. I hope you can get more eyes on this issue and Nerdstalgic gets called out by the public. Hopefully someone with some weight can call them out publicly. More importantly, I hope that you keep on making the quality VFX related content that you make. It's really interesting stuff and I look forward to learning more from you. Cheers!

Wow i'm really sorry man! It's super upsetting and it sucks that this can just happen with (seemingly) no consequences at all. Were you ever able to do anything about it with your videos?

@@CGWHY I was! But it didn't always work out. It was a strange thing to experience. They made a video similar to mine and stole my thumbnail (which had my branding on it). I emailed them and they argued that they found the thumbnail "on Google" so that it was public property. LMAO I guess it was also free advertising since it had my logo on it? It was clear that they weren't going to take it down or change it so I went through the copyright system and flagged their video. A few followers likely helped. They ended up taking it down. I had another bizarre situation where someone else stole all of my patreon graphics and used them on their own page. Again I had to reach out and demand that they remove my graphics. Another time, someone else in one of my communities stole the name of a series of videos I was making. I couldn't do anything about that because I had 500 subs and they had over 100K. I didn't have any weight. All you can ever do is go through the official channels and try to reach out to the person. Your situation is much more difficult since your channel is so small. I'm glad that you made this video calling them out. At the very least, it will remain on public record. They will likely continue to do this and it can be used as a part of collected evidence over time against them. I know it can be discouraging, but I hope that you keep making content if you find purpose in it. Don't obsess but also don't ever be shy to talk about topics like this. With enough people aware, eventually, I think karma will catch up with bad actors.

Nerdstalgic is about to copy this video and call it "CGY stole my video - What can I do?" lol, but damn sorry this happened to you, it sucks especially when a big channel does this to a smaller one. I subbed to your channel and I must say you do excellent work.

This happens EVERYWHERE. This happens with geography channels, philosophy channels, engineering channels, etc. They have more followers, get more views, and don’t care. You do the work, they reap the benefits.

That is so heartbreaking, this sounds like they took your script to chatgpt and asked it to rephrase it and just used different imagery. It’s one thing to borrow an idea it’s another thing to borrow the idea and the your angle.

This is far from new. Thirty-five years ago, fresh out of journalism at college, I tried to do freelance writing for newspapers. I'd go in and try to sell them a story, they'd politely decline... and then a few days later my story would turn up in the paper under a staffer byline, with every paragraph I wrote reworded but kept in exactly the same order. Infuriating.

Hollywood does this too. One of the more famous examples is the odd similarity between Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine. Both great shows, but really makes you think.

I was preparing to comment on your District 9 video about how OUTSTANDING I thought it was - everything from the production, to the edits used but mostly - for the priceless, intelligent and well-articulated insights you gave. But before I had a chance, I came across this video and so I decided to make that comment here instead in the hopes the message is a bit more amplified given the awfulness of this situation. BTW - I checked and Nerdstalgic’s taken their version down, I’m assuming after they got flamed for the flagrant copying. Please be sure to keep this video up though as it can be used in the future if they copy more videos, yours or someone else’s. And keep up the great work. You’ve gone from 500 subs to thousands in just a few days. So take that, NerdSTEALic.

This happened to me 2 years ago on another platform. Creator with over a million followers straight up copied me to the T. It was a subject that was long forgotten and the odds of someone talking about and doing what I did were all but impossible. Had others tell me before I found out and they called him out. He apologized and said it was a coincidence and quickly posted more content to get it off of his main feed. Truly a disgusting act to see people do, especially ones with massive followings stealing from actually talented smaller creators. Makes you think, how did they accumulate the following to begin with. Most likely theft from the beginning. Great job calling it out and greater news to hear they deleted the video. Truly a disgusting act.

In the light of Hbomberguy's video on plagiarism on KZfaq, this really doesn't surprise me. I've been subscribed to Nerdstalgic for a bit and they upload at an alarming frequency, so I can't say I'm shocked they steal content from smaller channels. I'll do without them lol

You popped up in my feed for the first time today, and it was your District 9 video essay. Nerdstalgic pops into my feed constantly, but I'm just so turned off by these soulless, copy-pasta listicle channels. Just the name "Nerdstalgic" is so hilariously bad, it sounds like it came straight out of a Bangladeshi click farm. Glad to see your numbers are ticking up, it's very well deserved and your channel is still criminally under-subscribed. I'm doing my part, and will continue smashing all the requisite buttons until I see you on Corridor's couch.
