My brother bought this when it came out, he was a lot older than me and I used to stay up late watching him play. ( I’m 34). He’s dead now but this game and music reminds me of him and I watch a playthrough now and then. I could never beat this as a kid but got close. Happy memories, I’m glad to be an 80’s kid. 4:40 This might sound cheesy but sometimes I look at the background and wonder (in the in-game universe) if there are people huddled in those houses - terrified of all the random monsters floating around outside! Or the mountains in the distance - could there be other adventurers camped on the mountainside - stuff like that 😃

This Castlevania is the one I played the most as a kid, never beat it though. To this day, that beginning music still haunts me in a good way. I love this game so much!! Edit: I nearly forgot about Dracula’s laughter on the name input screen, THAT scared the hell out of me when I was little!

This game was brutal back in the day. It would take me a dozen or more tries to get through each level. Definitely one of the best nes games. The soundtrack is amazing.

Alone: "In the shadows a person watches the castle fall. Trevor must go for now but he hopes someday he will get the respect that he deserves." With Grant: "Both feel their friendship has been stronger since they worked together to rid Wallachia city of evil. Grant will start to rebuild the destroyed areas of the city." With Sypha: "Syfa (sic), the Vampire Killer, has had a bad life, but since she met Trevor she is beginning to feel more comfortable with herself." With Alucard: "The battle was won by Trevor and Alucard but Alucard feels guilty because he killed his real father. Trevor realizes this as he stands there thinking about Alucard."

I now really wish that the Netflix series had included Grant, the weird and perpetually hunched over dude who can run on ceilings upside down on all fours. We’ll never know what we missed out on.

Honestly, I was 100% obsessed with games back then, how bright and colourful they were, how packed with imagination, how they stimulated the brain. I miss those days.

If they can make Netflix series off of something as vague as this, imagine what they could do with a Metroid Netflix series!

Without a doubt, this is video game art. I had never imagined that the NES had such good graphics, music and storyline. Take a look at other NES titles (like the first Zelda) and then take a look at this. ART. Excellent walkthrough too.

You gotta love the old Nintendo games. Just hearing the music brings back so many memories. I just bought a refurbished Nintendo on eBay and I play all my old games whenever I get a chance. I think Punchout, Contra, Mario bros, Adventure Island and Double Dragon are my favorites!

Played this for countless hours as a kid. Consider this to have by far the best soundtrack of all of the Castlevanias out there. Awesome game and it has aged very well which is quite rare.

This game was so difficult that i never got very far before dying, but i also had no idea Sypha's freeze spell was so powerful. Might have to give this gem another go

When I was 11 I recorded a VHS tape of me beating this game w/o taking any damage. Once you learn the patterns of each enemy it's not too hard, though it did take me a few tries first.

Sweet graphics, awesome cast, interesting and detailed stages, challenging bosses-epic soundtrack. This is a very well-done game!

I grew up playing the Castlevania series. To this day, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest is my favorite. Why? No time limit. You were able to enjoy the world without having to rush rush through it.

Literally the first console game I played and I still love it. Netflix series is just a cherry on top.

This reminds me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the nes. So many memories... Life is so deep, and we end up taking it for granted most of the time but when we stop and look back at the memories, we begin to understand some things that transcend beyond words. Nostalgia and dejavu play key roles in each of our existences.

Castlevania III has the best music out of the 3 on NES, very memorable, but who can forget the timeless classic Simon's Quest.

I beat this game once and I never knew have 3 ending, I just remember I finish the game with Syfa, and believe me was so hard for me. One of the Best New game ever! Good old memories!

One of the best soundtracks of the NES era. The entire Castlevania series is full of soundtracks that are iconic. I could watch this all day. I loved this game, as frustrating as it was to beat. Yeah, I had a little bit of help from Game Genie, but still it was NOT easy. The jump mechanics were so frustrating. Can't tell you how many times I plunged to my death trying to make the simplest of jumps lol. That clock level was INSANE.

So satisfying to to see you fly through every level without dying you must be a Pro gamer as mush as i am. After all this a great scary folklore game set in Transylvania.

Another great game that really showcased the power of the NES. This was also sort of the turning point of a great series. While it managed to revert back to the classic feel of the first game, it also retained some of the elements of the second game, namely a bit more story added in throughout the game play and less linearity.

I played this game when I was a kid, and I lost the cartridge.... and later on I picked up castlevania 2, and got this game confused with castlevania 1.... and I was wondering if my memory was faded or something.... but no. This was the game that I played when I was little. I am going to get my paws on this game again once I sell some of the old games in my collection that I never play. Quality over quantity.

I always liked this game, so I was jazzed to realize the Netflix show was based on it.

My absolute favorite Castlevania game of all time. Multiple paths, multiple helper characters to get you through the game, or you could even go at it with no helper. My friend had two copies of the game many years ago, so he gave me one of them as when I'd go to visit him, and we'd play video games, I'd always, and I mean ALWAYS go straight to this game. I once had all the passwords written down for every stage for 1st and second loop for every spirit helper in the game, that's how much time I put into it. Still have my cart today, and even have the Windows PC Castlevania and Contra collection, where this game is on it, along with CV1 and Simon's Quest, as well as Contra and Super C.
