I love Placido's voice. But some weeks ago I heard Corelli...oh boy, no way to unhear him now. He was incredible; and sang it with the majesty of a prince, prince Kalaf, talk of real Vinceró. This is not "E lucevan le stelle", why did Plácido kneeled?

Except that the final high notes were overdubbed in the studio because he missed them during the actual recording. So listen to the Von Karajan commercial recording: that's where these notes were lifted from along. Marton's high notes in the finale were also overdubbed.

En el año 1988, Plácido Domingo tenia 47 años y una actividad intensisima, tanto en óperas de diversa tesitura e idiomas, como en recitales. Cantar con ese nivel que siempre ha demostrado está al alcance solo de los escogidos!...25 años después, (incluso ha pasado por un cancer de colon), su intensidad de trabajo no ha decaido...y aún hay gente mediocre y vulgar que se atreve a insultarlo! increible!

Recuerda usted cómo nos demostró a nosotros los mexicanos su humildad y humanidad, cuando ayudó en las labores de rescate en aquél trágico terremoto de 1985 en la Ciudad de México; yo como mexicana, no puedo más que agradecerle tan emotivo detalle... México y usted están unidos, por lo que le externo mi apoyo total en estos tan difíciles momentos por los que usted está pasando. Puccini’s Nessun Dorma is one of my all time favourites. I’ve heard all the great tenors sing their rendition including Pavarotti, Carreras, Lanza, Bocelli, etc., but my favourite is Domingo for his controlled vocal power and the warmth and fullness of his voice.

Domingo's phrasing and breath control are unmatched, I think. What's more, he begins the aria itself when he's lying halfway down on the stairs. This isn't possible.

Yes, this is a live opera performance at the Met, not a recording where they can do multiple takes. He's already been on stage for near 2 hours given as this is the end of the 2nd act. We aren't always perfect in our jobs either. Not to mention that Puccini didn't write holding on to this note. It's styling, some singers want to hold on to it others don't, Corelli didn't.

I was lucky enough to see Pavarotti in concert and it was truly amazing, overwhelming, splendiferous, fill in the blank.... But...living in LA and having the privilege of seeing Placido from time to time, or even watching him conduct when the brilliant James Conlon is away, is incredible. A living legend already, he consumes all the air on stage in title roles and is wonderfully gracious when not in that role. Can't wait to see him soon in Simon Boccanegra.

Interpretación impresionante, llena de emoción y sentimiento. Se me eriza la piel al final. He visto las interpretaciones de Pavarotti y aunque dominaba su técnica vocal a la perfección, no transmitía mucho más que, una preocupación por lucir su voz y sentirse grande. !Las interpretaciones de Plácido son realmente conmovedoras! Le puso un gran sentimiento en este Nessun Dorma de Turandot. Su voz es más oscura y esas notas altas son grandiosas.

Donde empiezo describir todos los emociones que brindan en mi pecho cuando el Gran Domingo canta con ese voz milagrosa? Yo se que jovenes infantiles de Italy que tiren mucho sombra contra el Gran Domingo porque siguen perdiendo contra Real Madrid C.F. (jajaja) pero eso es la cruz que ellos tienen que entregar. Desde 2008, es oficial: el Gran Domingo es el mejor tenor de todos por todo tiempo. Por la voz, la arte total y gigante cuerpo de obra, no hay duda. Bueno, si tienes integridad. While it is true that the last note of Pavarotti is unbeatable, the power, taste, beauty of the voice, the live version, make Placido Domigo such an extraordinary, passionate and credible top tenor. You have only to compare the sheer beauty and power of this voice in the middle register with live renditions of this aria from contemporary tenors, he is really superb.

Placido viene riconosciuto dalla critica come il più completo tenore degli anni 70/80 con un timbro di voce ed una presenza scenica unica.Resta una nota dolente oltre il SI non riesce ad andare ,,in questa registrazione purtroppo forza la nota finale...peccato.

In fact, high B in this recording is faked (taken from studio recording, I presume). You can easily hear it, if you listen carefully. But it's exeptional performance, nevertheless. There is a version with original hoarse high B: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKh-fMJ2lqy6kmQ.html

Many people favor the brighter white tenor voice. But I agree with you. Placido dark tenor voice is beyond incredible. He also was accurate than Pavarotti. My problem with Pavarotti is that he became too much a concert tenor and started getting a bit gimmicky. Opera is about the stage and Domingo wasn't just a great voice, he was also a good actor.
