Great video! Does the Nest Doorbell upload all detected motion to the cloud or can you configure it to only upload events in defined action zones? I'm actually trying to limit the amount of events my current Nest Hello uploads.

Great review, we recently moved house and left our Nest Hello for our buyers. I just bought a new Nest Hello for our new house and was regretting it when I saw the new lower priced model. No regrets now, thank you for the clarity!

I just installed this today and was blown away that they let you get notifications on your echo devices. I thought I'd have my Google Hubs doing all the work. Very cool.

It's not the lack of 24/7 recording, it's the 3 hour history that makes it useless for security when you don't have subscription. When someone steals your doorbell at midnight, you won't have any footage of this when you wake up in the morning.

Yeah, I ordered a Nest Battery Bell to replace my Eufy, and the main point was tighter integration with Nest Aware and the rest of my google home infrastructure.

If you’re already on the new Nest subscription it includes 24/7 video on all devices. So if you’re already in the nest ecosystem you might as well get the wired one. The battery one is probably fine if you’ve got a side door or some other place without existing wiring though

I've had the Nest Hello (Wired) doorbell since it came out and absolutely love it. When I first heard that they were coming out with a new one, I was thinking of "upgrading" to this one, but I think I'll stay with my original Nest Hello for a while longer. It has greater video quality and the field of view is fine for my front door. "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!" Haha

same here absolutely love it - i was the same kept googling for new version and was 100% that I be first one to buy it but when I saw it felt a step backward so not going to upgrade

Thanks man, but could you please show us the doorbell working as a doorbell? Not only a smart camera, show as the notification on your phone when someone presses the button and your nest speakers and displays reacting to it

I bought and returned this. Other than the video quality not being great the two biggest issues were that it wasn't 3 hours worth of events storage (i.e. multiple 30 sec clips adding up to 3 hours), it is events stored for 3 hours before cleared which is a real issue if something happens at night and the clip is deleted before you get up. Secondly when you get a notification and click on it, I would get the message that the video is not ready for viewing and you have to wait a while until it's available.... totally unacceptable and can't believe Google released a product with these types of issues.

Glad you went over the event recording. Really wish you could add it to the nest app. This seems like a deal breaker, not sure if all the older nest devices can be added to google home yet with same functionality, plus I'd rather use one app that I know. Question: does the notification work the same with and without a subscription? I know the Nest Hello does not.

Is your go to camera right now the nest cam battery? I am testing a Wyze V3 but since the Wyze pro doorbell isn’t out, it’s a hassle having multiple camera set ups.

One aspect of these doorbells you are mssing is the temperature range. I live in Las Vegas where the temperatures can go above 104 degress. During the summer, my Google Nest Wired daily shuts down when these temperatures occur. Sadly, Google has the same temperature ranges for the new battery doorbell. There are other doorbells which can handle higher temperatures. In short, don't buy a Google doorbell if you live in hot climates.

Hello, thank you for you video it was very helpfull. I wanted to ask you where does you doorbell sound when you ring it? I want the doorbell to ring on my iphone, like using my iphone as the chime, but cant manage to do so. Video works, notifications work, but I cant make it ring on my iphone or ipads. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

In the beginning of the video you said if your internet goes down you can record up to one hour of footage. How is that? Is there an SD card in the video doorbell camera or does it record the 1 hr. worth of video somewhere else?

Worth noting a much better option for the UK market as most doorbell transformers here weren't compatible with the original.

I have the Nest hello on my front Door and I don't think I will change it.. but I alos think that the Nest Doorbell battery would be good for my sidedoor that doesn't have a doorbell and no wire.

I'd like to know how it fairs in British weather - I live on top of a hill and the front of my house is very exposed. In the 8 years I've lived here, my 3rd wired "old fashioned" doorbell has just broken. Before I spend hunners and hunners on a smart doorbell, I want to know if it's up to the weather

I think some people are making a big deal out of some features being “downgraded” from the previous model, but this wasn’t supposed to replace the previous Nest Hello. This was released as a competitor for the Ring battery doorbell. I also can’t imagine having 24/7 recording for your doorbell plus security cameras; it would up data like crazy. I use about 900GB out of my 1TB Comcast data cap, surely 24/7 recording will exceed 100GB in a month.

The original Nest Hello was and still is a competitor to Rings latest offerings. The confusion comes that after a few years, why make your product specs worse for almost the same price? Nest Hello is now going for the same price as the new doorbell, which only has a battery backup and offline mode. Other than that, you are getting worse specs across the board in terms of recording, resolution, and fov. Also, the Nest Hello uses about 70GB/Month upload. I don't have a data cap so am not worries about how much I use, but for others it may be a valid concern.

For me the elephant in the room is, at least currently, no Alexa/Echo support. I’m actually mostly a Google/Nest user but recently I added a few Echo devices to some rooms and there are some things I prefer with Alexa so right now, until I see which way I end up going, I really don’t want to buy stuff that doesn’t work with both Google Assistant and Alexa. You said Matter doesn’t support cameras yet (I didn’t know that, thanks). Is camera support on the roadmap and do you think that if/when that is added to the spec Google will make it compatible which presumably would also allow it to be used in an Amazon setup since Amazon is a Matter founding member?

Works on a 8 Volt trafo. No new door chime, no replacement transformer. So I bought one. Installation is straight forward DIY. No $120 electrician's fee.

SMS... How do you get this thing to send a chime? Will it work with a Google Home Mini? In the settings, it says that it won't chime in battery mode. Well, it is ONLY a battery mode.Any insight?

Nice video, but I think you forgot the most important things, like is it the best choice or a wired doorbell like Ring Pro 2 is better? Or at least for Google users? I agree about 24h record, if you want something like that, than you need a device for that and doorbell it's not for that.

Wouldn’t the night vision be useless anyway because if ppl buys it for security wouldn’t they have flood lights on their front porch? I wouldn’t just rely on a doorbell’s cam alone for visual security.

If you live in a neighborhood that assumes itself "safe", can you gauge how your neighbors feel about the cameras? How did you get the eufy cams mounted on the outside of your home? I should probably go back through your back catalog. Just got a home and am lost as to set things up. I move in like....three weeks from my two bedroom apartment. I am a bit overwhelmed lol.

Thank you for the review. I just bought Eufy 2k battery doorbell 1 week ago. Should I exchange it with this new Nest doorbell? Please let me know which is the real winner. The video seems explained that it recorded better events than eufy. but it seems the quality of nest doorbell video is not good.

See if the Eufy works well for you. If you have delays etc then exchange it for the nest but the Eufy has a longer battery life and better resolution so it's no slouch.

As a current Nest user I wouldn’t recommend it especially if you are looking at home automations like switching on lights inside the house based on activity or any other automation you can think of. Partly because unlike Ring or other major brands Nest is pretty poor with automation support. As a camera it is great and 24/7 recording was the only reason I thought it was better over Ring pro. However in this version that is not there as well, so not sure why anyone would choose this one especially since the subscription is more expensive!!

The lack of 24/7 recording is a deal-breaker for me. Having a current Nest Hello would make this a downgrade, not to mention that where my doorbell is located I can't place a traditional camera. I hope Nest comes out with an updated wired 24/7 recording doorbell, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Hi fantastic video again I received my google nest doorbell second generation yesterday I ended up sending it back because it was crap 💩 and it was big I am sticking with my nest hello doorbell first generation I am happy with and it small records 24/7 if my nest doorbell doesn’t work no more will be buying the eufy doorbell because I use eufy security cameras wired version

Thanks for this comprehensive review! I had no idea it was that huge. Too bad it didn’t have 24/7 recording and with battery for backup. Maybe they’ll come out with an IQ version that have both 24/7 and battery backup. Looks like I’m staying with my wired nest doorbell for now.

Not liking the changes Google has made to the Nest line up over the years. After hearing the discontinuing of the older cameras I dumped Nest after many years with their cameras. Invested in the eufy eco system and couldn’t be happier, no more silly service fees for a product that offers the same features that are just as good.

Nest gives a range of how often it's recording events. Sorry I forgot to include it in this video but here is the table from my previous video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nqmonpuYy7neZHk.html I didn't have the doorbell long enough to fully test battery life. It seems like their estimate is on par with what it was getting though and pretty standard for other battery doorbells. If other companies claim longer battery life then they could be just giving the ideal with low event recordings.

I'm hip deep with Google stuff, so I see myself getting this doorbell. The only point is that I don't get that many deliveries or people coming over, sooooo why even bother? *sad noises*
