If the AC or heat is ON for prolonged periods of time the power scavenging for charging the thermostat is not possible which is when the battery buffers power supply. When your battery gets old it can’t maintain the voltage for as long. When the battery voltage sags below 3.8 volts the nest drops Wi-Fi to conserve power and local control. The way to over come this is to wire the C terminal to the 24v ac supply from the control board or 24vac supply. You can also change your battery with a replacement from Amazon.

Couldn't really tell for sure, but it didn't look like the "type C" charger to me. I think those are called "micro" chargers. The "type C" chargers look like a flattened oval to me, the micro ones have slanted edges so one side is smaller than the other.

@ephtea6143 жыл бұрын
Some people get lucky and they have enough of a charging current supplied by their system to maintain proper battery voltage. If you are plagued with low battery issues that come and go, have the C wire connected! Nest saying that the C wire isn't needed is BS. That method does not work well for all systems.

Thank u for this help, I tried both so let’s see. Would u believe I call google nest and a representative name Chris asked me if I wanted him to work F$&king magic. He kept sending me an email that I wasn’t receiving. So I could get to verify my account. He asked me to go to the breaker which I wasn’t sure about because of all the things I had connected and just didn’t want to disrupt anything because I’m just a single mom and no help close by. This was 4am this morning. I hung up his call and tried calling back, the phone will answer but no response before disconnecting. I called a friend to call who lives 37 miles away and he got through. He put the phone on a three way call and I spoke with someone else who then rectify that Chris could not have been putting in the correct email. So disgusting! I was referred to a local troubleshooting company but hopefully your method works. Thanks again

Hey Frosty, story here, my wife was throwing a dog toy down the hallway and knocked the nest off the wall and damaged it. It was in the middle of the winter in Canada so I sent her out to buy a replacement. I installed the new Google version on the old Nest wall mount. Now it is 8 months later and I get low battery displays. Just wondering is there is a difference between older versiion and new google ? Currently charging with a usb and have turned off the furnace awaiting charge of thermostat.
@FROSTYLIFE Жыл бұрын
I really dont know the answer to that. There are some very helpful Google forums that provide specific instructions for special circumstances like this. Perhaps your internet signal at the location is too weak. Try to move your modem closer. If the last one charged properly through your wiring, then this one should too. In my experience, low battery often occurs from weak internet and the thermostat wears the battery down in trying to connect.

What does your furnace power have to do with charging the nest battery? Those are not connected.
@FROSTYLIFE2 жыл бұрын
Wrong, on my system, the charge power that keeps the NEST charged is hooked up to the master power for the furnace. It is how it is wired
@nworbydnar2 жыл бұрын
@@FROSTYLIFE HI. Mine is hooked up that way too. And I may have finally figured it out. When the thermostat is turned off, it drains the battery. Now we leave it on heat, but keep it turned way down when not in use. It seems to be charging.
@BoPurdue44714 жыл бұрын
You only need a common wire
@salonbuilder14152 жыл бұрын
Hi. Please help me. After connecting C wire, everything (Cool, Heat, Fan) is functioning. It shows a new wiring configuration and the current now reads 200mA. The battery voltage is 3.4V (low). The problem is after few minutes, a message pops up "the nest thermostat needs to shut down to recharge the battery", and it turns to the black screen. I thought after adding a C wire, the battery is not an issue anymore. What else I should do?
@hailydove2 жыл бұрын
did u ever figure the problem out? i had it go crazy yesterday after installing it, it’d reset all the time, low battery warning, and lag really bad. I don’t have a C wire and i’m getting that wire installed today but i charged mine thru the wall for an hour or so and it made it thru the night but it kept turning the furnace on and off this morning which was odd but apparently it’s due to old wiring. it’s really confusing tbh
@hhova294 жыл бұрын
Do with a nest I don’t need a C wire correct? It’s battery operated? My tech found I have 4 wires only
@momule554 жыл бұрын
Without a "C" wire your nest will not charge. See any number of other YTube videos for info on adding a "C" wire if your thermostat wire only has 4 leads in it.
@MrXMasterTrader4 жыл бұрын
@@momule55 That's not true. It is still charging but slower without C. Mine only has 4 wires and it works fine.
@patbowen97044 жыл бұрын
@@MrXMasterTrader Been wrong before. Perhaps mine needs 5 wires because the furnace is a heat pump with emergency resistive heat backup. Mine was not charging at all without a C wire so I would say that I'm wrong as it pertains to your system...but not mine.
@MrXMasterTrader4 жыл бұрын
@@patbowen9704 Great, thanks for the response. Every house is different. The best way to find out is go to the "Technical Info" of the Nest, in the "Power" option, if the "lin" is 40ma when the Nest is idle, you are fine. If "lin" is 20ma, then you would need the Common wire.
@momule554 жыл бұрын
@@MrXMasterTrader Thanks for the clarification. Lots about these devices that isn't covered in any manual. I guess enough of them work just fine out of the box to allow them to be a success for Nest. I'm tenacious and like to know how things work.
