How to move the battery outside the windgauge, to avoid using ladder to change batteries in the future.

Brilliant solution! I find it strange that Netatmo haven't included an option for external power in their wind and rain gauges.

Yes, strange, but maybe they will do some day soon? 😊

Some years later: Well, definitively going to do, as you did, plus: Will integrate some solar, so that i do not have to change the batteries all x months... for both, the wind- and the rain gauge! Thanks

Well, God damn. If that isn't the neatest mod I have ever seen. I was thinking you would hook it to a solar panel array. But, hey, this works well too. Cheers!

You are awesome. I wish you would do setup and install videos. I am going to call netatmo in the morning, but it will be going back to Amazon if their app or PC program cannot install the rain or wind meters. Maybe they spent all their time on the iphone app bugs :(

Just connected 40 meters long 2x 0.75 mm silicon cable (ready for harsh environment) and a Voltmeter showed zero Voltage drop. Once the Wind meter has been powered up the app shows 100% battery. The only little issue is total diameter of the cable (~6.5 mm) - the inner space of wind meter has to be a bit more physically adjusted.

Very good idea, I start today, copying...thanks

I connected the other end to 6V wall adapter and it shows full battery now :-)

Samuel Steinhubel Excellent. That is a even better way to do it. Never have to worry about batteries agan. (But maybe lightening can be a problem?)

Glad to read this. I want to do the same with wind gauge and the rain gauge too.

Hi, I was going to purchase this add on to my Netatmo station but seen a lot of people complaining about weather issues? Do you have them? Thanks

Like others, I think this a very ingenious solution! I have a couple of questions/comments. Can't tell from the video, but did you tease out the cables from their route in the anemometer? They are glued in at a couple of places, but can be teased out, and this gives you a lot more play when fitting connectors, and makes it less fiddly. When you eventually change the battery, how easy is it to re-connect to the base station? Do you have to move the base station nearer? This will disconnect any other devices, of course, and then THEY may have to be moved near to the base station. Just wondering how you got on with this? Maybe a power supply is the way to go, and hope never to have a power cut? On another point, does anyone have any tips on cleaning? I've just brought mine n after a couple of years, and it's far from pristine.

Hi. It was easy just take out the batterybox and cut the wires on the model I have. Not much fiddeling. Every time I change the batteries, it re-connects by itself after a few minutes. Maybe 10-15 minutes? Do not have to move the base closer. There are one layer of insulated floor and a roof with insulation (and metal roof plates) between the base and the sensor, and 10 meters distance in total. A friend of mine put a power supply instead of batteries, and it works fine. I was just afraid the power was not as "clean" as from batteries, but it is absolutely a way to go. I have to change batteries up to twice a year. The cold periodes really uses battery. I have never cleaned it.

John, How long was the electrical cable you used to connect the battery pack to the wind gauge? Any idea as to what the practical limit of length of this cable at which time the connection will not work? Thanks!
@johno.pedersen56716 жыл бұрын
Lilian Tatar-Salis - I used around 5 meters of cable, but I did not calculate the loss of voltage. The wires were really thin, so I used two pairs in paralell. I'm not shure how long cable one can use.
@frankhofer16643 жыл бұрын
So the decision to use two cables per pole was dedicated to the thin diameter of the cable? I just asked myself while watching the video why you did use four cables in a whole. Well done, greets from Germany!

@@johno.pedersen5671 I did this today. used about 12 meters/40 feet 0,75mm2. works perfect :)

Smart. Må vel gå greit å bruke 2x0,75 lampettledning til dette formålet.
@johno.pedersen56715 жыл бұрын
Det går nok helt fint. :)

Jeg brukte lampettlkedning på min mod idag., ca 12 meter. 0,75mm2. fungerer utmerket

Great, I have been looking for a solution like this! Will wires taken out of an ethernet cable be OK? I think they are 0.4~0.5mm...

I’m not shure. Just try, it might work. Good luck.

Are you able to share the data from this wind gauge through Wunderground?
@johno.pedersen56716 жыл бұрын
Hello. I am sorry, but this (Wunderground) I do not know anything about.
@henningvestskogen17942 жыл бұрын
Hahaha. Stort sett alle streber etter og slippe ledninger. Neida, her tar vi bort batterimuligheten og hopper et steg tilbake. Jaja. hver sin lyst.

Henning, har du sett videoen før du kommenterte? Tviler på det.
