They hated him because he was right and they knew it. They didn't respect games as a valid medium for storytelling and ended up screwing up Netflix's entire planned universe because they couldn't be humble. The Yennefer storyline was so hard to watch... - Doesn't get chosen as a mage, so therefore they refuse to give her the operation that makes her infertile but gives looks etc. - Refuses to accept that decision and forces someone to give her said operation, making her infertile - Spends the rest of the show complaining how the mages could do that to her, when we actually saw her doing it to herself with noone pressuring her into it or even wanting her to. The show seriously lacked (among many, many things) chemistry amongst characters. One thing I liked about the books was that Geralt, Yen, Ciri, and their close friends all felt like a big lovable family. Sure, it was a little dysfunctional due to the circumstances, but in a world filled with hate, racism, and war, they all truly cared about each other. I loved when Yen arrived to teach Ciri about her powers and she became a friend, mentor, and mother figure. Their relationship was downright heartwarming. In the show? Absolutely nothing. I wasn't entirely in on the idea to start with, because I play video games, so action in movies and tv is mostly boring to me. However, the creature feature was initially how Supernatural started and I remember liking that show. Following Geralt around, running into other witchers, spies and sorceresses along the way. Sure that's also fanfiction, but it would give some creative liberty to the writers in a way that could satisfy fans. I had started listing off characters, but the list grew too large with unique personalities, which incidentally would make for a great show experience.

I think one of the main problems why things get so messed up... Witcher, Warhammer etc, is that the big companies that want to adapt them are heavy on virtue signalling. Which has its place, you can focus on the character that already exists and make them prominent, but instead they choose to change the narrative/create new ones where none exists. IDK. I get it that LGBTQ+ characters dont exist much in older books/universes or even female characters may not have been written in the ways where they are prominent. Like Arwen is a powerful character and has her place but Netflix would rather have her replace Aragorn's place or in that kinda position of power. But that kinda decision making warps the universe that is already in place and that the fans know and love if poorly written. And dont get me wrong, I'm all for having shows where a woman can be in a position of power/main character, but like within the context of the IP that you're in and the universe that is made. Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters are so inherently boring. And self inserts of these type of characters are just... Universe destroying. not specific to witcher/warhammer.

They made a whole thing in season 1 about students of Aretuza giving up their ability to have children to become beautiful, and in season 3 Netflix introduced tweedledee and tweedledum. The actress who plays Keira Metz looked like an actual troll. She is as wide as she is short, her nose takes up most of her face and her hair is just wild. The second one was just a BIG black woman. Nothing wrong with either of them and they're beautiful in their own way, but i have a hard time believing that their characters gave up the ability to have children to look like that. It's the equivalent of me chopping off my ding dong to look like Guy Fieri.

FYI, the games are actually a sequel to the books, so Andrzej Sapkowski not liking the games probably has more to do with he fact that he didn't write the story for the games, rather than the games diverging from what he wrote. In fact, he probably has a good idea of where he wanted to take the story if he did continue writing, but the games popularised his books internationally with most people's first exposure to the Witcher series being from playing the games. As a result, most people consider the games as being the canon story with the books being the backstory you can read after playing the games. There's also the fact that Sapkowski got screwed with the licensing of the Witcher as CDPR only gave him (at his own request) a one off payment for the license. I think all this adds up to his dislike for the games.

The original book set as a whole was never just focused on Geralt especially towards the middle to end of the books where in the latter half of the books he's just "there".

I want to address what you said about the writers. I agree with you. They did think they could do it better, and were even laughing at the source material in the books and making fun of it. I am an author of fantasy, and speaking from the voice of experience, the writers should have known from day one that you cannot write someone else's characters better than they can. This was Peter Jackson's success with the Lord of the Rings, because he and his writers adapted the source material, instead of trying to rewrite it. Had the Netflix idiots realized that, perhaps the show would have been much better than it was. Henry Cavill did a perfect Geralt, and brought him to life so well, it blew many fans away. Some were even willing to keep watching in spite of the bad deviation from the lore, just because he brought Geralt to life and embodied him so well. Liam is a good actor, but he does not have the chops to fill Cavill's shoes in this show. It's only going to further destroy what could have been an incredible show, and will potentially damage Liam's career.

You cannot watch a series without the main character... it's like going out to catch a shark without the equipment.

I don't really understand why they need to change the plot of the books. You have a book that you know that works and tells a good story, why would you risk changing it? And if you want to change it so much why don't you do an original series?

I am confused, does the Netflix Witcher take places in Wakanda?

Since it´s Netflix, anything medieval is Wakanda. :)

People give to much credit to Season 1. It was 90% fanfiction as well. Not to mention plastic, rubber scenography, rubber swords, disgusting armors (nilfgardian armor in particular) and general lack of cohesion. It was a mess.

The problem is not ego per se man. The issue is they want to get a bigger audience and cater to more people assuming that they will have the core audience all the way. Instead what they should do is cater to the core audience to make sure you have them always and as the core audience raves about the show you will naturally attract new fans.

Producers ruining shows is becoming a thing. It’s like they get to it first and drain out what they can until they realize nobody cares and then bam they throw it down. With that nobody can go back and try and redo it because everyone will remember this 💩

Hell, even season 1’s direction was all over the place with the 2 timelines at once thing. The show had potential but the director didn’t know what she was doing

When Netflix has a layup as good as Cavill, and the stories from the Witcher world, they somehow still manage to mess it up. I'm proud of Henry, he stuck to his guns and he is RIGHT. Netflix did this to themselves. They've earned this level of stupidity.

This is what happens when detached echo chamber crazies get a hold of something. Part of it is their massive ego ("I can do it better than the creator"), and the other part is thinking the entire world agrees with their social rhetoric and wants to see it crammed into every show.
