You are right! The costume designers ensured that the lines, silhouettes and grids of the chess board and its pieces run through Beth's wardrobe throughout the series, reflecting the stage she is at in her career and her mental state. If you rewatch it, you will notice little details like when Beth is hungover, we see splashes of green in her outfits, matching the colour of the librium pills and after her stepmother's death, she often wears Alma's favourite shade of lipstick in her honour.

The late great chess player Bobby Fischer would disagree with you that there is to quote you 'no politics in chess'. Id serious chess in the 60's and 70's in CT and in CA in the 80's and 90's and then moved to Japan where they play GO. There's politics in everything. I'm back in CA and have just lived through 4 years of hell in the Trump pandemic/forever quarantine.

I have watched The Queen's Gambit numerous times. I have been able to memorize the entire series script. Credit to the cast and crew for creating a show that is both amazing and unforgettable. One day, I hope to meet the entire cast to let them know how much this show means to me in more ways then they can imagine. Also, one can't forget those involved in the post-production of the show and its music. Carlos Rafael Rivera (of whom I'm a huge fan of) and its music supervisor and orchestra did an absolute amazing job. The song cut of the FINAL GAME scene has and always will flood me with emotion every time I hear it. And finally to Scott Frank and Allan Scott and William Horberg and the cast directors and EPs thank you for bringing this book to life on screen where I understand it took almost since it's publication to get to the audience. You were able to do it and it has taught a lesson to never give up. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK. From Isla Johnston to Anya Taylor-Joy and everyone in between, THANK YOU.

I heard about this show from the internet, hearing about how good it was and how it was perfect and I just thought "It doesn't look like it's my kind if show." I watched the first episode out of curiosity if it really was as good as people say, thinking I would watch 10 minutes and get bored of it, but how wrong I was, I watched the whole series in one day, it truly is worthy of all the praise that it gets and it doesn't need a second season, sure it would be nice but I think it is better just to let it be, the show came full circle and it had a perfect ending in my opinion. To sum it up, this show is incredible, and if you are even slightly curious about it, watch it, you will end up watching the whole thing, it is that good.

No she wanted a life more then only chess for her. And yess i agree she could be more firm about alcohol and drugs but she went out and tried to make something out of a social life. She was stuck with her asshole husband without anyone else to fall on to. You don't have to agree with her parenting but wanting something better for Beth doesn't make her a bad parent. And edit Beth used to much after the dead of her mother. They were the happiest. Even though she didn’t het chess she was always happy to hear the stories from Beth. Im Not a orphan But i never had parents who really wanted to listen. I had a dad who was strict and firm on anything But never showed any genuine interest. Even with her imperfections she loved Beth as her own. Thats the most important quality to have as a patent.

@@parisphan22 That’s going to drag the show into the fantasy realm, which is not what I think the directors were going for. There wasn’t really supernatural imagery depicted in this show at all, so a ghost of him would take away from the impact, context and story of the show. I think the closure already provided in the show, with Beth visiting Shaibel’s funeral and the old school she started chess in, was perfect because it reminds us of how far she came and how far the influence of a janitor with knowledge of a fascinating game went.

One of funniest moments is when Jolene explains to Beth what Squash is. “It’s a game rich white people play. You’d be good at it” 😂😂😂

I'd like a video of best lines too. Like in the high school hallway when Beth puts a shoulder into snooty Margaret: "Excuse YOU, Harmon!" "Fuck you, Margaret." LOL A+

I do wish you decide to get one more season. I would wanna know if winning worsens or makes the addictions disappear. I do think most do just wanna know if she manages to rekindle some of the relationships.

My preference would be to leave it as it is. No S2. Let TQG be mythical and legendary with Beth Harmon on top of her glorious mountain. I believe the book's author passed on not long after the book was published in 1983. S2 would have to capture the essence of author Walter Tevis's original vision of Beth Harmon's saga if her story were to develop further.

@@manuelabello2033 It would be an amazing ending I know but I want more. I guess I could always just imagine it how I thought it would go without Netflix ruining my perfect vision. The actors were just so amazing in the roles. I am sure the books is better so I will have to find a copy.
