24 күн бұрынDutch fans gathered in Westerpark in Amsterdam to watch their side in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday (10th July).
There was a party atmosphere right from the start - the early goal from Xavi Simons adding to this.
But a Harry Kane equaliser followed by the late Ollie Watkins winner saw England through 2-1 - and left the disappointed Dutch trying to make the best of the rest of their evening.

Dutch is one of the closest languages to English. We have common ancestry. As you say though football expresses itself in the emotion written over people's faces, the synchronised roar when the ball hits the back of the net or palms touching foreheads when its against our own team.

Typical media painting the dutch to look bad. I saw an article yesterday that apparently the dutch fans were being violent towards the English, then I saw livestreams of Dutch and English fans, talking together, laughing together, drinking together, dancing together and just having a good time. I am English and the Netherlands played very well. Big respect. Huge respect to Virgil Van Dijk for his interview afterwards, took the defeat like a champ.

Rule number one. Never ever take the media viewpoint as fact. Everything is twisted to fit whatever narrative they want. You can have a room of a hundred. 90 will be absolutely fine, but those 10 that aren't become the focus and drags down the rest. I think not having Frankie De Jong available became a major blow as the Dutch teams’s midfield creative spark and being able to win the ball back and create spaces. Without him, I think the Dutch team reaching the semis was a good end result for this tournament.

I’ve been a fan of The Netherlands football team since the legendary 70s era of “Total Football”. Cruyff, Neeskens, Rensenbrink, Krol, Haan, Rep, … were the superstars that I had great respect for. The Dutch don’t realise how many English youngsters were inspired by their brand of football and the particular brilliance of their maestros over the last 50 years. The Brazilians have their sexy football, the Germans have great Teutonic efficiency, the Italian have great defense and strike tactical mastery. The Dutch have everything in their legacy including trophies, they lost only 1 football match vs our England team. They will never lose their great legacy and will be back to continue their momentous football journey 🙏🏽

As an England who was in Dortmund, you guys were great fans, your brass band stopping outside a pub full of English to play God Save the King and Sweet Caroline was class. You had a great turnout, unlike the Spanish who haven't even been seen in Berlin yet!

I mean they stuck 11 men behind the ball and were playing for extra time and penalties about 30 minutes in. If thats 'making England work for it' then modern football really is screwed. Would've been a travesty if the Dutch had made the Final, they were second best throughout.

I thought the Dutch team would give us a big hammering. They got off to an amazing start with a fantastic screamer of a gold. I was very nervous at that point lol! Commiserations to the Dutch team and fans, they are a wonder bunch. I absolutely love the dance and chat that they do through the streets too! I wish the English fans did something like that ❤️ ⚽️

Love the dutch, our fans and theirs are one in the same, same energy by far the 2 best lots of fans in the world. It was a good game and although we had the best first 65, dutch started coming on strong and it was looking worrying for us going into extra time but the subs changed the game. Absolutely devastating for them, but absolutely exhilarating for us. This is football.

It was a brave effort by the Dutch to reach a major semifinal. Even the horrible defeat to France in their first match of Euro 2024 qualifying phase, they still went all the way to the semifinal. They really show a lot at this year tournament.
