@@jaapongeveer6203 We played the best football in Argentina but run out of fuel in the second-half against Holland. We had a young side in '78 and it was a learning curve for many of the players. But Bearzot made a negative change at half-time - taking off Causio for Sala. This proved to be an error.

L'Italia fu l'unica squadra a battere l'Argentina in quel mondiale, era una squadra completa che giocava un calcio meraviglioso, un misto di tecnica e potenza. Uscimmo contro I'Olanda in semifinale per due tiri da lontano non proprio imprendibili.

Timaço esse da Itália!!! A base da seleção campeã de 82... temos a oportunidade de ver Roberto Bettega jogando (esse era uma fera, um craque, responsável direto pela classificação da Itália para essa copa)... o sensacional Franco Cáusio (na partida seguinte, jogou muito contra o Brasil)... o jovem Paolo Rossi (dispensa comentários, mas já aí, dando uma pequena demonstração do que viria pela frente, quatro anos depois, rsrs)... Dino Zoff (também, dispensa comentários)... enfim, todos... um dos melhores times que a Itália teve em todos os tempos, e... esse, um dos melhores, senão o melhor jogo dessa copa do mundo... no entanto, percebe-se aí, a queda de rendimento da Itália no segundo tempo, aconteceu o mesmo no jogo contra o Brasil... e isso, com certeza, eles aprimoraram para a copa seguinte... Na minha opinião, havia um equilíbrio muito grande entre algumas seleções dessa copa, Itália, Holanda, Argentina e Brasil...qualquer um desses quatro poderia ter sido o campeão com justiça *(sabemos que a Argentina levou "faltou a justiça aí, né??? rsrs)... mas, também tinha um time muito bom!!!

Very rough match and unfortunately the poor state of the pitch is evident here. This was the only match played in sunshine at Monumental stadium as the rest were night matches or played in overcast weather, Buenos Aires having a more humid climate than the inland cities Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosario that receive little rain in winter. I still like the look of the Monumental stadium during that era and somehow prefer it to our modern times.

The official name is Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti. It was always unofficially known also as River Plate stadium due to being the stadium of said club.

@@-Nicolas- sí, pero en el mundial era otra cosa. Llegó a la segunda fase apenas habiendo recibido 3 goles. Y sí, hubieron situaciones o historias que dejaron mucho que pensar. Perú se vio con las manos muy abajo casi todo el partido y totalmente jugando a otra velocidad.

@@rogereduardoperezesponda3358 Perú comenzó el partido con 2 remates que fueron detenidos por los postes del arco argentino. A partir del 2do gol en contra su nivel cayó, lo cual es lógico. Se pierde moral, además de físico. Esa fue su 3ra derrota en el grupo de semifinales, y recibió un total de 10 goles sin convertir ninguno. Suiza recibió 6 goles de Portugal en 8vos de la última copa, cuando en fase de grupos solamente había perdido con Brasil (1-0) y sumaba 2 triunfos. Lo cierto es que en ningún partido del Mundial '78 Argentina recibió ayuda extra de los árbitros. Es más, perdió la sede por no ganar su grupo. Fue derrota 1-0 contra Italia, otra selección que estuvo al límite de jugar la final.

si aveva eliminato la Juve un mese prima col Bruges e poi prese l Olanda per i mondiali e elimina l Italia anni dopo batte la Juve con L Amburgo sapeva come battere gli italiani le sue squadre correvano pressavano e tattica del fuorigioco perfetta il suo calcio era dieci anni avanti

These pictures do not show the corner kick prior to the Dutch equalizer where first the Italian Goalkeeper Zoff receives an elbow on the ear not punished by the referee and to recover the Italian goalkeeper kicks the ball out which by the Dutch is not returned and instead they score a goal...unbelievable misconduct this! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n52YgMKQ28reiWg.html

È stato un risultato insperato e ingigantito oltre i meriti reali però quando si parla dell'Italia del 1978 resto dell'idea che sia stata la nostra Nazionale più bella anche se non ha vinto.

@@arianvanheisen644 il mondiale 1982 dopo una qualificazione sofferta regalerà un mondiale bellissimo con l'eliminazione di squadre come Argentina (campione uscente), il miglior Brasile di sempre o quasi (inferiore solo a quello del 1970), la fortissima Polonia (guarda il mondiale 1974 ad esempio) e la solita Germania Ovest. Se parlo con nostalgia di questi periodi è perché ho avuto la fortuna di vedere il calcio più bello.

Poor Italy. It was knocked out of the World Cup of 2010 and that of 2014 in only the first round, by minnows such as New Zealand, Slovakia, Paraguay, and Costa Rica. It failed to qualify for the World Cup of 2018 or that of 2022, because of average Sweden and very minnow North Macedonia. Can you imagine? At a minimum, for 20 years (2006 to 2026), Italy will have won only one World Cup match (against England, in 2014). Poverina!😩

@@stefanorossignoli8391 Yes, he was one of the better ones but Tardelli and Gentile were a disgrace and don't even mention Romeo Benetti - he couldn't help himself - he even injured his own national captain Facchetti in a Juventus v Milan match. To be fair in this game Arie Haan was a bit naughty on Zaccarrelli.
