Netherlands PM Rutte Says US Relationship Is Crucial

Mark Rutte, the outgoing Prime Minister of the Netherlands and front-runner to become the next NATO chief, says the relationship with the US is "crucial." He also says former President Donald Trump was right to push for NATO to contribute more to defense spending. He speaks on "Bloomberg Surveillance" at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

As a bit of a leftist dutchman im not very fond of all the things that Rutte has done but he is a stand up guy! Sad to see the comment section taken over by dutch populist. His name is spelled: Rutte (no 'n') This guy has an (a) active memory, (b) passive memory and (c) empty memory. His answers come from one of these three memories. NL has always been a staunch ally of the USA, no matter which war crimes the USA was perpetrating. The election in the Netherlands was about the reliability of the government. Rutte as a 13 years PM has lost all confidence of the NL people. Also in this conversation, he is still solliciting to the USA for the position of the SG NATO. He is a 100% despiccable person.

From the earthquake in the northern regions because of the gas extraction and neglecting the population there with houses that are crumbling to letting the dutch irs tag and punish minorities because of his policies or removing the dividends tax because while messaging about it with unilevers ceo (eventually unilever left the netherlands. Also him deleting messages from his workphone, messages that should be archived. The guy was good for big earners but the rest got screwed over.

And the Dutch are still one of the wealthiest and safest countries in the world with the lowest amounts of poverty and crime in the world. So calling it destroyed is extremely exaggerated and you sound like you're wining. I'm not denying the problems you mentioned they are real, also like Mocro maffia is getting a real problem now, but there is also a lot to be thankful about in the Netherlands

The USA has, through NATO, subsidized socialism in the EU since World War II. The NATO countries have joined a club where it has been agreed that they contribute 2% of GDP to the military. To the European leaders who do not understand it, I would say, can I settle for paying less in tax than what the tax law requires? Of course Trump was right. Besides, he had an extremely entertaining way of communicating it.

Very interesting comment reading this as a Dutch citizen you are right. They did this social democracy which is basically capitalism as a foundation for the economy with strong elements of socialism. Big welfare state. The USA did this for one simple reason: to counteract the Soviet Union. To give the Western Europeans free trade capitalism with the benefits of socialism made possible by nato so Western Europe would form an ideological strong bond against the Soviet Union.

Yes, because somebody blew up the gas-transport-pipe from Russia to Gernany, as Biden had prommesed, it is transported from Russia via India, Iran, Middle-East to Europe. We have a big gasfield, but has closed, because our gas is producing carbon dioxide..... That is dirty stuff, isn't it?
