So to anyone stumbling on this video now or anyone who has been on the fence for building it I would highly recommend it. I've played the deck quite a few times since Mitch built it for me and it very quickly became one of my go to decks. I know that Nethroi has a pretty beefy mutate cost but you gotta remember that you will spend your early turns just pitching anything and everything into your graveyard, so yeah it takes a little bit to get the mana but by the time you do you're ready to drop a ton of big creatures and suddenly have this overwhelming board state. Plus if someone board wipes and all those creatures end up dead again then you wait a turn or two and DO IT AGAIN. Its crazy good and very fun to play.

I really enjoyed this deck tech. I recently made my own Nethroi deck that focuses on the mutate mechanic with cards from Ikoria. I was also able to build it so that i can use Kaheera, The Orphanguard as the decks Companion. It was really interesting to see a different style of deck and as I said, I really enjoyed it.

My Nethroi deck is mutate/ o/o etb with counters based. i have all the mutate critters that can fit in black white and green, this makes nethroi trigger non-stop and keeps every thing on the field, and if no one exiles your graveyard, you'll easily have over 30 creatures in play at all times. hard to loose in a 4 way game even with every one teaming on you. But the weakness is graveyard removal, so if no one has any thing to deal with your grave, you auto win.

I did a similar thing with zero power walls, but did pitiless plunderer and altar of dementia so that you can mill people, bounce the mutated commander, and re-cast nethroi and the mutate card for a repetitive mill combo. Plus a slow infinite mana combo.

I got excited when I saw the thumbnail because I built a Nethroi deck when I pulled the card. So far mine has been about life gain. Throw in gray merchant and all of a sudden you're blowing people up

Neat. I was trying to figure out how to adjust the Abzan Symbiotic Swarm precon to use Nethroi as the Commander instead of Kathril. This looks like the better option for me.

I run a nethroi deck and it gets sooooo confusing after a while with all the Etb triggers happening at once. I went more of an aristocratic build though, where I sac the creatures for mana to repeatedly bring them back from the graveyard and let cards like Syr Conrad and blood artist finish off the opponents

In my first pack of ikoria, I pulled an eerie ultimatum and a foil nethroi. I then later pulled death's oasis, inditha crystal, inditha triome and Chevill, bane of monsters. Needless to say, I was pretty lucky.

I bought nethroi to toss into my Karador deck and it turned out great. After cutting one additional card, I found another infinite combo in my deck. I have an aristocrats token Karador that is probably my favourite deck and all my infinite combos are pretty hard to pull off except for the Nethroi one.

for an extra dollar or so you can also swap out dirge of dread for filth, which is a creature that gives all your creatures swampwalk while in the graveyard similar to brawn!

Not gonna lie, this direction for Nethroi was not what I was expecting. I built Nethroi recently focusing on Aristocrats and using mostly cards in my bulk collection at first. It is powerful! I think being able to have multiple ways to mutate would help get Nethroi's ability off more. I'd be happy to share my decklist for comparison if anyone is interested. But this deck still looks fun! Good job Mitch.

I have to say I was REALLY surprised to not see Bonehoard anywhere here. It meshes with us wanting to fill up our graveyard with creatures, and since it has Living Weapon, we can Mutate Nethroi right on top of it. This, coupled with a haste enabler like Mogis's Marauder, lets you feasibly alpa strike someone with commander damage while also letting you go wide at other players.

Great deck Mitch. It’s close to where I started before upgrading mine a lot. The only real feedback I have: so many humans in the deck which are all invalid mutate targets. I would trade out a few for creature types you can mutate on to.

I thought Nethroi was just some reveillark combo commander, so I never paid much attention to it. This is the first time I realized it brings back 10 total power, not 10 total cmc. That makes it interesting even for non-combo players. I love gigantomancer so much.

I built a Brawl Deck around Nethroi a couple of days ago, and I LOVE him. Anything that enters as a 0/0 is a phenominal thing to have with him, and I haven't found much better than Polukranos Unchained and Embodiment of Agonies. One has a repeatable fight effect, the other has flying. Throw in something like a Pridemalkin which will give both of them and others with +1/+1 counters Trample, and it becomes gross. Side note: I really think Nethroi might just be a great Hydra Tribal commander given the right circumstances, especially since no one would see it coming. Honestly I'm kinda surprised that I didn't see Polukranos Unchained, even as an upgrade. Is he that expensive?

You can also throw in the classic Mikeus/Triskelion combo in here for a "panic button" win condition that you can revive both at once with Nethroi. You know, if you want to be THAT person. Hehe I know I do.

This is probably the best way to get value out of this commander's activation, specially considering you might not get too many activations due to to high Mana cost. Creatures with 0 power that enter with counters is very clever.

Hey Mitch! You should do an Illuna deck focused on non creature ramp, creature token spells and lands, bounce spells like run away together, and big finishers like Kederekt Leviathan and Pathrazer of Ulamog - should be dirt cheap to build.

I think I have finally found my commander for my secret commander Fynn the Fangbearer deck. I currently have a commander deck with Fynn as my commander but I've noticed that due to Fynn's low cmc and low cmc creatures with deathtouch in green, that I very quickly become the primary target for my opponents. Most of the time, on turn 3 atleast 2 of my opponents would already have poison counters. But with Nethroi I could mill Fynn into my graveyard, along with a bunch of other creatures, but especially Odric and Mogis's Marauder. That way you could mutate Nethroi, bring out Fynn, Odric and Mogis's Marauder and a bunch of other creatures and now they all have Deathtouch, Haste and intimidate. Yeah I think that combo would be amazing to pull off.

I had an infinite combo Karador deck that I swapped out for Nethroi and honestly the deck is basically the same but more consistent. Probably not everyone’s ideal way to play mtg but it’s slow infinite cuz I have to get the combo pieces in my grave, so I feel it balances out.

I like how the creatures in this deck are 0/0 with counters because it lets nethroi mutate into a huge problem as well, since mutating gives him the counters on his base stats.

How does Underrealm Lich and Dredge mechanic work together? can you do Dredge with Underrealm Lich on the field? or do you have to wait till he's gone since it says "put that card into your hand" instead of draw for his ability?

I'm not sure on it's price but the new Polukranos from Theros Beyond Death would also be pretty good in this deck since it has zero power, can fight other creatures, and can use it's escape ability to get into the battlefield without Nethroi. It also might not hurt to have a few other mutate creatures since that's what activates Nethroi's ability

What about adding ghave instead of pentavis ? Would he be better cause the +1/+1 counter can be put on anyone and you can sac anything not just what he makes

Hey Mitch, here's some spicy tech for you. There's an artifact creature card called Spinal Parasite with power/toughness -1/-1. Because its power is -1, if it's in your graveyard, you can get 11 power of creatures back from Nethroi if you include it in your pile. And because it's toughness is -1, it will kill itself every time you recurr it, putting it back in the graveyard for the next time you mutate Nethroi. Hope you enjoyed hearing this, have a nice day.

It is sucha shame many of the really good 0/0 counter pay-offs are so stupidly expensive. I was lucky to get Commander Anthology 2, so I have Reyhan, Ghave and Kalonian Hydra, but even escape!Polukranos and Forgotten Ancient are suprisingly non-budget. One option with this kind of build is go longer on the counters with pieces like Winding Constrictor, Corpsejack Menace and the like. Having the Nishoba come in as a 14/14 is always nice. I was so interested in Nethroi I ended up building three different decks (Umori companion, saprolings and counters), I know it is a simple effect mechanically, but it does offer interesting choices in what you want from your mass reanimate (aristos, tokens, ETBs, counters, self-mill, cheat out large beaters) and how often you look to do it (further mutate cards, bounce cards).

I've just noticed Mitch isn't putting the prices below all the cards anymore. Is this on purpose? I liked that because it helped me understand the way the pricing was weighted on the cards and let me know what cards I could grab on my current budget.
