Don't stay just in your comfort zone building and spending time just with your ethic friends or other people you know and think of as part of your community. Think about this professional life and private life divide. It's not as simple as one might think. When you take a skiing trip to Lapland with your professional colleagues, customers etc. these separation of different roles can become more context and situation dependent. You might become friends, but still keep your interactions professional in professional contexts. Don't be worried if you don't get along with everyone and don't like everyone. Just don't escalate situations unnecessarily and don't be easy to be provoked. You don't need to become friends to have useful professional links, to build some trust and to be useful to others and to yourself.

It’s true that the hidden job market is challenging, especially for newcomers. We have heard discussions in Finland opposing the hidden job market/jobs not being openly advertised. While I do feel that the hidden job market is not purposefully excluding people, but rather something that has been going on for decades, if not longer. However, I understand your point; it’s not an inclusive system, but I doubt the system will change any time soon...

Private businesses and teams are mainly concerned about their own challenges like finding suitable competences and people to their teams. Making job positions open doesn't always make sense since it can be resource consuming in a situation where they already have too much to do. By using their internal contact networks the hiring process can be more targeted to make it more efficient. Only if that doesn't work, then there is a need for a more undirected effort.

I assume you are familiar with the following: "Equality in recruitment The Equality Act (yhdenvertaisuuslaki) provides that job seekers are treated equally. An employer shall choose the most distinguished applicant for the task. The employer must also be able to prove that the choice is justified on acceptable grounds related to the nature of the work and that the choice was not made on discriminatory bases. Qualities that are not necessary for the performance of the tasks must not be required of job seekers." One can argue that in some situations, if a person is invited to join, then there hasn't been any job seekers for the job. It is also common that a person gets invited, selected, because of his or her known good fit to the team and company culture. Keeping the teams well functioning is sometimes more relevant for the business than some individual persons excellence. Measuring good fit in the organization in the hiring process is challenging and good cooperation and fit can be something difficult to cultivate to flourish later. Open job announcements and hiring processed work best when there is a larger number of similar jobs to fill and one can think of them as more "standardized" jobs to fill. Not all jobs are like that.
