As a bug-lover since I was a kid (I even had pet black widows), I'm really enjoying your charming explorations into the various insect orders. It's such a rich and deep field of interest. I look forward to your delving deeper into the phylogenies. I'm particularly fond of wasps. In my high school biology class, now nearly sixty years ago, I took on an insect collection. Almost miraculously a tarantula hawk flew into my yard, residential Arcadia, CA, far from the desert, and certainly not populated by any tarantulas; I managed to capture it to make it my prize of the collection (always some misgivings about killing a bug to collect it, however). Tarantula hawks are stunningly beautiful, and their life cycle is amazing. It's probably not well-known that many wasps rely upon parasitism to propagate their species, and the tarantula hawk is no exception. Adding to the interest of the wasp family is its incredible diversity. Compare the tarantula hawk, with its nearly three-inch wingspan, to another wasp, the fairy fly, which can be as small as a quarter millimeter or less, and I'm sure you'll agree it's a rich vein to explore. Neuroptera is my favorite lesser know insect order, I especially like the mantid-flies and spoon wings

Never did I think I would find myself sitting in my yard for hours staring at a sheet. I have lived here my entire life and it was my first time really seeing the majority of the insects that landed.

This is my favorite order of insects. I work at a nursery and lacewings are a staple in our IPM program. We've been able to cut over 2/3rds of our pesticide usage from the use of numerous beneficials. The boss is a believer now and we are putting native/riparian zones to attract local beneficials. The biodiversity over the last few years has exploded! Thank you for the wonderful video 🙂

i've actually gotten bit by a neuropteran larvae before. it didn't hurt that much, maybe as much as a sting from a sweat bee, but the little bugger just would not let go of me lol
