The “because you trust your opponent will finish/win the game” (I forget the exact wording) is hilarious to me because I had a game where I only had a King remaining. The other guy had a Rook and King. I didn’t surrender, and he TYPED TO ME IN THE CHAT that I was being disrespectful for not just resigning in this position as he continually failed to mate me correctly with this set up. 1200s by the way. :) He ended up flagging and it was a draw. I know that sounds disrespectful to some, but think about this: if he didn’t know how to mate with Rook and King, why should I just resign? If he didn’t learn how to win the game, then it wasn’t a won game. It’s why you always study how to win in an endgame. I definitely resign in end games where the opponent is clearly showing they have the knowledge to finish the game even if it will take 20 more moves. I’m not in the interest of wasting people’s time just because they “might” make a mistake. But when the dude is moving his Rook around all over the board letting you run wherever you want, might as well go for a draw LOL

The people who get super mad at me for not giving up are the best. The absolute best. My favorite of all time was a 3 minute game where I blundered a bishop as white on move 20 or so, which made my entire position collapse. Black, instead of just mating me, decides to spend several turns making another queen. And in doing so, opened his king up to perpetual check. Oops, 1/2 - 1/2. The guy was FURIOUS. Like fifty messages in chat about how I cheated, I had no respect, I was an idiot, he spoke more languages than me (really), and most of all, that he had won fair and square. My response? "Says draw on my screen, friend." Then it devolved into him insulting me in various languages to prove how smart he was. So yeah. Never resign. You don't just improve your chess, you also get free performances from the ego monsters.

Resigning is the polite thing to do between experienced players when it's clear that you can't draw. You often don't get any breaks in a tournament, so don't waste anyone's time. But if there's a chance you won't lose, make your opponent show you. If they're in time trouble, play it out to mate: clock management is part of the game, too.

Even for GM, I find it desrespectfull to end the game the moment you realize your opponent outsmarted you. A lot of beatifull checkmates are never played out because of this. There is only one reason in my opinion for resigning -> After a blunder.

even then there is still a chance. I lost a Queen to a pin in the opening. Took the Knight, then pinned his Bishop to his King. I set up a fortress around my King, attacked him with both Rooks and my two extra pieces, won one of his Rooks and won the game. Also won a game with Bishop, Knight and 3 Pawns against a Rook and Queen by forming a wall around my King and just marching everything up, got a Queen and he just resigned.

This is especially true for opponents near 800 who most times don't know the basic checkmates like king and 1 rook, king and queen, 2 bishop, etc Also i remember playing against this guy who almost defeated me, then was very very VERY toxic in chat. He promoted 2 queens even having so much material to checkmate my lone king. He tried to checkmate me (couldn't even checkmate with 3 queen) and ended up stalemating me XD

I was playing a 3|2 game today and my opponent offered a draw. He had a king and bishop. I had a king, queen, bishop, and pawn one step away from becoming another queen. I couldn't tell if he was seriously offering a draw or if he mouse slipped and hit the offer draw option instead of the resign option, but I believe I said "get the fuck outta here with your draw offer."

What I have learned from your videos so far: - There is a thing called development. It is a name for randomly moving knights and bishops. - The thing where you can't move some piece beacuse the other player would take some better piece is called pinning. - One of the best first moves is moving the pawns in the middle. That is a London start I think.
