We had a neighbor many years ago who was a profession artist who worked in oils. He wanted to repay my husband for helping him do some work around his house. We asked him if he would do a painting of my dog. He did a fabulous job and to this day the painting hangs in our family room. My beloved dog passed away a while ago, but when I look at that painting, I feel like he is right back with me. I will never part with it.

😢 i’m decluttering for a man in mid 60’s . Using my iphone to take digital pictures of photos and then duplicating . Also many small items I can take pictures will be enough to exercise my memory . Fear of not remembering the past what I forgot as I get older .

😂 sometimes I would love to go back and read my old notebooks but perhaps it's best that I did get rid of them. It was an endless stream of romantic scenarios of tripping and breaking my ankle and being saved by whoever I had a crush on that year😂😂. And other silly, prideful scenarios that I really wouldn't want to have see the light of day.

When you save letters, newspaper clippings, cards, etc. you never know who may be blessed by them one day. Several years ago my sister and I started to work on our family genealogy. I had an old beaded purse that belonged to my grandmother from the 1920s. In the purse were old pictures that looked to be from the mid 1800s. There were names on the back, but we had no idea who these people were. We decided to have our DNA done by Ancestry and my sister had a match to a woman in WA. She turns out to be a third cousin. She had an elderly aunt who had a shed where she kept a lot of things and she gave those things to our cousin. There were letters, news clippings, and pictures that our cousin was trying to figure out who these people were. It turns out that her 2nd great grandmother and our 2nd great grandmother were sisters and they had a brother. Her great grandmother married a man who decided to move from PA to CA during the gold rush. He took his family to San Francisco and then moved to Bellingham WA and became one of the original pioneers there. Our great grandmother was writing and sending family pictures to her sister and she in turn was sending pictures and letters to our great grandmother. There was a news clipping of the brother's trip to Wales in 1900 to visit their family still living there. Aunts, uncles, and cousins were all named in that article. This was an amazing find that connected the dots.

@@sandracommager9367 One thing we did before our mother passed was to get my grandmother's photo album and try to figure out who some of these people were. One picture we had looked like it was taken in the early 1900s during a 4th of July celebration. My grandmother was from Frackville Pa and I bought one of the history books about the area. In it were pictures of the 1914 homecoming and it matched our album pictures.

I suppose it is because "they" keep hammering into us that if we haven't; use/worn something for a year it has to go! I regret donating a couple of pieces of clothing, and items that my son is now looking for........So now I keep it even if I haven't worn it for a year and started asking the guys if they want it and if so they must take it to their homes!!!! The secret is to keep the wardrobe visible or we forget about it. lol. Oh yeah! getting rid of leather coats!!!! AAAAAAAAAh ok I'm over my rant Cheers

OMG! Diaries! I was depressed and upset one day about my life and I burned, yes, actually burned my old diaries - I have regretted that so much over the years! Please keep the pictures - especially the old ones. You may not care but going over family tree stuff with my grands - they loved when I put 6 generations of pictures in a row showing the women in 'their' family (one was a tin type).... all these people lived, so you can too! They loved it and asked if, when they had babies could I show them again. I had put many pictures on digital (a zip drive and old stick) and have lost them because the digital device can no longer be accessed (even had a professional try on the zip drive) .... glad I kept the original photos. Great video.

This older couple were selling everything to “go on the road” and we bought a bunch of items, including a “trunk” or “chest” (not sure what to call it). For whatever reason, it was not opened until we got home. Hubby opened it and it had a box at the bottom with a bunch of jewelry. Yikes! Luckily we had their phone number! We called them at about the same time the wife was probably screaming at her husband because he was quite relieved to get our call. We didn’t go through the jewelry but I’m guessing it was all her good stuff. Um…..the guy was sure happy to see us the next day….😂

I had my Covid stash of canned wild caught fish, but didn't eat through it fast enough. Some of it expired. Ouch! The silver lining is that I was babysitting a dog with a stubborn skin issue that wasn't responding to other diet changes and additional supplements. The fish still smelled fine (and it smelled absolutely wonderful to the dog in question!) And she Has very much enjoyed copious amounts of fatty fish this week! And just that short amount of time, the crusty skin has started renewing and doesn't have any crusts on it anymore. The tumor is no longer hot and hard, it is smaller, cooler and more mobile. I think we just figured out The right nutritional support for that dog! The expired fish in my pantry went home with her today. Her owner is very happy with the results!

Agreed. If there's a moisturiser I don't like, my hands and feet will like it. Shampoos I don't like are fine for cleaning hair brushes and rollers. A lifetime ago, my father decided to purge a cupboard, and threw out a tiny pile of small sheets of plastic in bright colours. A couple of weeks later, my mother needed to replace a red window in her camera. Didn't we have some small pieces of red plastic I can use?

I was just at a big box store with my daughter, and one of the things she wanted was a flapper because her toilet wasn't working right. They don't stock that one anymore. Having a few on hand makes a lot of sense. my vacuum is still working great after 22 years, but they no longer make it or the parts for it. They repaired by scavenging other Vacuums brought in for exchange. Buying quality products that are likely to be made by responsible companies who don't try to design something new every single time… Wise choice.

I was helping my relative declutter drawers at her request. She was looking for some coins her deceased husband had hidden. We didn't find those. But we did find cash in nearly every drawer of which she had forgotten. When i suggested we keep all of it in one place so she wouldn't forget, she refused. Basically, it's the same thing her spouse did.

A friend of mine had to have a home caregiver for the last few years due to an accident. The most recent one I got into her drawers and got away with $10,000 worth of jewelry. It's incredibly fortunate that they were able to track what she did, and she will be dealt with in someway in this inefficient system. If my friend had not persisted, communicated with the detective, provided information from conversations that led to some of the discoveries, she would've been just one of the many elderly people that have been robbed and defrauded. You might wanna tell that story to your friend. She might need a caregiver someday herself, and this particular caregiver had gotten away with doing it in more than one town.

from Flylady, I learned that diluting the leftover shampoo in a shampoo bottle is a great daily soap for A quick scrub of the toilet each day. In my observation, some of the women who use the most skin care product end up with the oldest looking skin when they are older. And we absorb all of the chemicals through our skin. Just something to think about. Stay hydrated from within, and avoid seed/Bean oils the oxidize inside the body (or are often deodorized and rancid before you eat or apply them). eat plenty of your best animal protein to rebuild your skin. You can save a fortune and a lot of real estate in your bathroom if you just switch to something as simple as beef tallow and/or castor oil.

I love a video like this, and I think everyone is going to be a little bit different when it comes to wisdom in keeping some things. but yes, checking boxes before disposing of them is a really good idea unless you packed it yourself and sealed it to get rid of it by a certain date if you didn't need anything from it. Somethings are just not as available anymore. As the world gets Stranger and more politically censored, I'm finding that I can't just go to the library and get the same books again. They're not there! so if you love to read, think twice. (This comes from someone who got rid of 50 boxes of books, and has more to go, but just be aware!) memories. Wow. I have boxes and boxes of things for representing memories. The thing that struck me when I first started in on one box is that I didn't remember how awesome I was!😂😂😂 The little articles appreciating things that I did, the little notes ditto, I didn't remember those things! Dementia is coming for many of us 😲 So now I've started grouping some of these materials in simple binders, sometimes with sheet protectors. It's fun to go through them from time to time!

Regarding skincare, you might be allergic to an ingredient. I went for chemical testing. I am allergic to mineral oil. It would serve no purpose to keep anything with mineral oil. So know why you are paring things down. I am an older person who never had room or money for too much stuff, so I have always been thoughtful about purchases. I think the problem for a lot of women, especially, is that they have too much extra money, and believe the marketing hype. We only need one shampoo, one moisturizer for body and a lighter one for the face, etc. Just buy only what is needed. No clutter, no need to throw stuff out, no regrets over what you got rid of, a bigger bank account, and more for retirement. Trust me, you will need every penny.

True for sure when it comes to simple nice leather purses and shoes, winter jackets, etc. I'm 70 and have hung onto many of the better made things I've found in thrift stores, church rummage and garage sales over the years, especially things in navy blue and camel colors, though I have parted with a few things. "My" old favorite colors are so hard to find, if not impossible for years now. Durn those resellers anyway, grabbing all the good stuff in the thrift stores these days; takes the fun out of the hunt for me, but I don't buy much of anything and don't do much shopping anymore. And the heck with what's "in style" anyway, I say. When a teenager asks you where you got your navy blue or brown leather boots, you know you have a keeper. I love the warmer colors in clothing and household decor and will never get used to the cool colors.

I wanted to let people know a thing I started doing before decluttering anything that has really been a helpful and useful thing for me. I first will go and research thoroughly “alternative uses for” any item that I want to declutter. You may find many uses that you didn’t know about for something. Additionally, I will also look up exactly how to use something if I don’t know. I decluttered a bench scraper (cooking/baking tool) I received as part of a kitchen basket gift, because I never used it. I honestly thought when I got rid of it, that it was just taking up space unnecessarily. I was shocked how useful it actually is when I accidentally came upon a video that showed how to use it. So now if I don’t know for sure, I will look up a tutorial on the object as well. One thing I definitely regret getting rid of is good quality denim (Jean jackets, shorts, jeans) from the 80s and 90s. Wish I still had a few items. No acid wash lol but the classic stuff.

My worst regret of getting rid of is... When i was a freahman and sophomore is highschool i enjoyed writing stories. Well one of them my english teach looked over and she said it was a really good story and even did any grammar corrections it needed. She encouraged me to maybe try to send it to an editor and see if i could get it published. I was a super shy girl and i feared rejection of something i enjoyed doing in my spare time so i never did anything with them. Somewhere along the way they didn't make the cut when i moved and im now wishing i had them and would love to have atleast tried to have them published.

If a skincare product cause outbreaks on one part of your body, I would think there is a decent chance they would cause outbreaks on other parts of the body as well. Your body doesnt like whatever chemicals are inside them, maybe a spesific allergy. Personally I would not take that chance, if anything you could have given it to someone else.

My mom (82) has been on my daughter (27, special needs) and me (50) to get rid of my daughters American Girl collection. She started collecting in 2002 and has 11 historical dolls, 2 today dolls, Bitty Twins and Bitty baby and almost ALL the items for those dolls. We spent a fortune at the time on them. ( She has hydrocephalus and has went thru so much, including 11 brain surgeries. We over compensated to make her happy). The collection has been in SEVERAL bins stores in our garage for years. But your video has made me reconsider getting rid of them. They were such a big part of her life and just the trips to the Chicago American Girl store are such great memories. I knew I wasn't ready to part with them, but my mom (who lives with us) is relentless. She has convinced my daughter and I to get rid of things we still regret years later.

But I did offer it up online and found someone who didn't have a lot of financial resources, but DID have a granddaughter enamored of all things "horse." I'm glad I have the memory of taking the time and trouble to find someone who might really enjoy them.

Sometimes the best thing about decluttering videos is that lots of people jump on board and get rid of really great stuff! 😉😉Lots of good items end up at thrift stores, charity shops or garage/rummage sales for many of us to purchase at a song! (And yes I declutter about twice a year so it's not as if I keep unnecessary 'stuff'.) My house isn't minimalistic but has little to no clutter.

Idk if I would say never declutter but be intentional. Never give something away without looking through it. Only keep cards that are actually meaningful for whatever reason... not every single one from every person every year. If everything is special, nothing is special. Also, if you are not sure go through stuff and put it away for a specific time period. If you never reach for it, then don't worry about giving it away.

I had some collections to display and needed a riser so I could see the items in back - the VHS tapes were a perfect, free solution. I have pulled them off the display when I want to watch them, and back up they go when I'm done. Any little bits that are visible just look black. Not a bad idea to back them up digitally as well though.

As someone who likes to live intentionally and is actively decluttering my home, I was hoping this video (and Part 1) would provide helpful information. However, I think this was very personal to you. Instead, I believe the takeaway may be not to declutter impulsively. There have been numerous studies about how living with fewer things helps health and well-being. I know some personalities will have regrets with decluttering. Personally, I use a ‘time will tell’ bin before decluttering, especially for items I’m not sure about. This way, you are a lot less likely to have regrets. Instead of saying ‘NEVER get rid of these’ items, changing the way you declutter may be more useful.

I think clothes are hard for different people… What's your background? Is it about being frugal? A wonderful memory? A fantasy that you will fit into it someday because that's not actually a fantasy… It's a possibility? A personality that loves variety? Creativity that tells you that you can combine things in new ways, old ones with new ones? Is it because you were deprived of being able to dress nicely at some point in your life? Is it because you Want to sell them for a good price? Is it because you don't wanna give up any more closet space to a partner😅? When it comes to decluttering, sometimes it helps to figure out why you wanna keep things before you figure out whether or not Life will be better without them!
