A fan tribute to Friday the 13th, Never Hike Alone follows an adventure blogger, Kyle McLeod (Andrew Leighty), who uncovers the long lost remains of Camp Crystal Lake while on a solo backpacking trip. Ignoring the campfire tales from his childhood, Kyle's search turns deadly when he makes the grave mistake of crossing the path of Camp Blood’s legendary mass murderer, Jason Voorhees. I think this movie is superior in many ways, but I also think it's more fun to watch a movie, where you don't give a shit if the main characters die, because then you don't care about the characters and you can focus on other stuff. Though NHA proves, that that's not always the case. You can care about the main character(s) and have fun at the same time

the hollywood full lengths are the nun and the conjuring so it aint hard to beat those. i feel this film is well executed for an indie its just pretty uneventful. the same story beats repeat over and over. i watched a short called overtime the other day, ten minutes long and had more originality than this piece. loved the stunts and the shot selection though. script is lackin

What I love about this Jason is that his mask is FEATURELESS…no red marks, no axe mark….just a hockey mask…symbolizing that this Jason isn’t the same one we know….he’s a Jason that is new…and improved from the looks of it…. And another thing…a lot of survivors that are from Friday the 13th don’t react enough and just die (except a few like tommy) but this guy (Kyle) has guts, instincts and survival…it made me love this character…especially his hiking youtubish personality! ^^ You guys keep making content! You guys made a Good Friday the 13th fan film…it’s so good I WISH it’s canon…

Just seeing this comment now for some reason. This is such a great way to describe what we were going for. This Jason, Ghost Jason, is new. He has learned from previous films. He's not the same paint by numbers stalker slasher. There is more going on. There is more to lose. There are real consequences for his actions. The last thing Jason wants is for someone to get away and let the world know he stills exists. The outcome of this film is his worst fear come to life.

The acting is so great, the physical effects top notch. The character is realistic, and the story is unique within the Friday the 13th universe, and it is overall better than 95% of the slasher films I've seen in years. Even the score, cinematography and editing are superb. No complaints. This deserves to be a feature film. I'm excited to see what else this director will do.

Why was a half found footage, low as hell budget KZfaq crowdfunded movie not only one of the best sequels in the series, but also one of the best atmospheric, legit tens, pretty damn well acted from all involved and flat out scary movies in the series!! This should not be good but by god it's amazing and hard to even tell this was low budget youtube fan made! Truly feels like something a big studio made with a few million as a teaser prologue type film for a upcoming big movie. Take note Hollywood fans are getting pissed at half ass bad remakes and showing you up with literally the change under the sofa! Fuck this was awesome

All I can say is wow! This film is amazing. It's actually so good that it ranks higher than a lot of the actual Friday the 13th movies in my favorites list. You guys definitely have something special here. Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller need to take notice and reach out to the individuals who made this film in an effort to bring something like this to the big screen.

I have never seen a full Friday The 13th movie, but after this I will. This is absolutely amazing. I was so invested in the movie and all the characters. Jason is actually scary in this. I love this movie. Great cinematography, action, makeup, special effects, music, everything. And to top it all off, its free. If I where to buy a ticket and watch this in theaters, I would leave EXTREAMLY satisfied. I only wish this movie was longer

Hard to belive this is fanmade, even with so few characters they make an awersome work, excelent photography and acting I love the "The Shining" style intro and foreview of the lake, and the way they add a sound effect to Jason's footsteps to make him look like a titan (even if that sometimes remind me Cell from Dragon Ball Z) and the references to the movies, like the names of the rescue team members ( TOMMY F*****ING JARVIS IS BACK LADYES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!!) Hope they make more awersome movies like this one, amazing

This was REALLY REALLY good! Great main character, slowly built horror that pays off. Short and to the point. With a likable and intelligent main character. And of course there are the fantastic effects. Everyone who was involved with the creation of this short movie should of been the ones to make the remake of Friday the 13th. Instead of the people who made the remake in 2009

I like the part where Jason teleports near Kyle at the ‘No Trespassing’ sign. In my opinion, it’s Jason’s way of telling him to turn around. He’s going to kill Kyle without mercy if he crosses, but he’s giving the kid a final warning.

Thank you for watching. Yes, that moment was a warning for Kyle to turn back / watch where he walks. Another subtle context for the scene is how quickly Kyle is on his feet and ready to fight. He is armed with a knife and shows that he is formidable. With Jason being unarmed in the scene, he decides not to attack at risk of Kyle getting away. So, he lets him work his way deeper into the woods where he can corner him.

A bit slow paced but it actually built the main character and suspense. I liked how those numbers were laid around and you knew exactly what was there before. Good how you brought it into urban exploration modern horror, and the actor was good too. Interesting how having a competent main character actually made the movie better.

Met Thom Matthews in Houston last month, and he hipped me to this flick! Incredible work, all around. Doesn’t feel like a cheap fan film at all…this seems like a well made, lovingly shot, professional flick all around. The tension that runs throughout is palpable, and really offered more thrills than 90% of today’s horror films. Great job!

This was the absolute best of the Friday the 13th movies. I loved the fact it was the survivalist vs. Jason. He gave Jason everything he had and didn't quit. Didn't run off screaming even though he knew he didn't stand a chance. I only wish it was a bit longer. Hopefully we see Kyle McLeod again. Would love a sequel.

Cut the guy a break. His leg, arm, and stomach got messed up pretty bad...especially the stomach. Even with the book in the way, the blade went in deep. I feel it would be best if he just...stayed out of those woods in particular. Plenty of other areas to wander around in.

I absolutely love this movie and I've been thinking about why it was so good. It wasn't just the acting, the special effects or the suspense. What made it so different and what made it good was that you didn't have seven brainless teenagers getting hacked off one by one. The movie chose to focus on one protagonist and one protagonist alone, and you couldn't help but really like that protagonist. They changed the formula and made it so much better.

I’ve seen a lot of shit movies, most made with a way bigger budget. This is not one of them, not by a long shot. The attention to detail, the cinematography, locations, all completely on point. I live in the town the original Friday the 13th was partially filmed in, and I don’t think I could ask for a better tribute at all. Cheers, and thank you for putting the love into this that you did!

I've seen a few Friday the 13th fan made films but this one is, by far, the best, no debate. Shot really well, looks really good. Acting is great. Very impressive stuff. This is very inspiring. Seeing these great kinds of films is a reminder, to me, that it is not impossible and i, myself, can do this, too. Only difference is, I want to create an original concept, with an original villain character.

Excellent job! The film's weakness comes at the end when we meet the paramedics, but that part of the story is balanced by what preceded it, along with some beautiful cinematography. Overall a fantastic job. I really enjoyed watching and appreciate the hard work that went into it.

It took a full year with about 6 months of prep on top of that. And no worries, Chucky, I lol'd because I was thinking the same the the other day. If we do a sequel it will be done right, a full budgeted production that is shot over 2-3 weeks and then go to post for 3-4 months. This production was spread out over the course of a year because we all had jobs at the time and had to work weekends only.

Markis5150 I luv the actor.....ROTLD PART 1&2 r insanely fun and funny as well. This was better than any newer horror films! Except maybe the nun, saw series, as below so above, paranormal activity, cabin 48, grave encounters 1 2&3 ( not really scary for sum, but is more hell than most realize). And a few other indi films I’ve seen that were creepy as fuck. But this movie kills most Hollywood films for the last 15 years....n that’s pathetic! Can u imagine if this film had 1/50th of the budget of bird box or something stupid like that? Be mf awesome! One bit of criticism tho; I wish there was a couple more earlier kills in the movie!! Like...sum other campers unrelated to the star, or the stars friend that he could have brought....or a homeless guy

Many years late, but you've absolutely nailed this film. Only one hour, but with far more suspense and atmosphere than every other entry. You've got the special effects, the cinematography, the acting, the Jason (both body and mind done really well), humour that isn't over the top camp or parody, and it is telling a totally unique story without being predictable at all. Everything you need to make the perfect Friday film. No other main entry has had all of these. And this small indie fan film has got it all in buckets. I am so pumped for the sequel(s?)!

Some references I managed to spot @9:55 & 11:26 - It's the same "No Trespassing" sign and barbed wire fence that Sandra and Jeff encounter while hiking in *"Friday the 13th Part II"(1981)* . This fence is the border between Packanack Lodge and Crystal Lake @15:50 - June 13th is the only day that's not marked on the calendar as done cause nobody saw the end of that day. June 13th is Jason Voorhees' birthday @17:02 - Probably the shower where Marcie got axed in *"Friday the 13th"(1980)* @17:38 - Camp Crystal Lake sign that Sandra picks up from the grass in *"Friday the 13th Part II"(1981)* @18:45 & 19:17 - The original design of the Camp Crystal Lake sign from *"Friday the 13th"(1980)* @18:52 - Some hockey equipment on the shelves, guess y'all know why @20:15 - *According to Womp Stomp Films:* "That is the rope Pamela Voorhees used to hang Steve Christy from the tree. The frayed rope is from when they had to cut him down." *"Friday the 13th"(1980)* @22:47 - The bed where Jack gets an arrow through his neck in *"Friday the 13th"(1980)* @27:38 - Pamela Voorhees' rotten decapitated head maybe? @44:27 - Looks like the place wheren Pamela was decapitated, although on the original movie the place looked more like a beach than a field @45:13 - Axel was also the name of the also horny paramedic in *"Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter"(1984)* @46:17 - The man himself, Mr. Tommy Jarvis, seen in *"Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter"(1984)*, *"Friday the 13th: A New Beginning"(1985)* and played by Thom Matthews(just like in here) in *"Friday the 13th: Jason Lives"(1986)*, also appears in *"Friday the 13th: The Game"(2017)* @50:11 - "Hey Maggot Head!" Tommy calls Jason that in *"Friday the 13th: Jason Lives"(1986)* That's it, all I could spot, if you found anything that I didn't let me know!

Spot on. Here is the full ribbon list: Shower #6: Marcie (axed in the shower) Tree #3: Steve Christie (stabbed and strung from a tree) Bunk Bed #2: Jack and Ned (Ned killed O.S. and stored on the top bunk. Jack arrowed through the neck on the bottom) Kitchen #5: Brenda (thrown through the kitchen window wrapped in a cloth tarp and rope. toughest to tell, but there is a bloody tarp and rope next to the mop bucket) Utility Shed #4: Bill (arrowed to the shed door) Beach #1: Pamela (beheaded by Alice on the beach) *** Unseen #7: Annie (neck sliced in the woods and stored in the Jeep. Jeep was towed away) ***We had to shoot this scene at Lake Mary in Flagstaff to avoid having to pay for permits. The original plan was to shoot it on a more sandy, but overgrown beach in California but the parks department wanted us to pay for a very expensive permit, a scuba diver, and a life guard in order for Jason to stand in 2 feet of water. Sometimes you just have to give in a little on these things to make it work, but logically without being tended too it is likely that the beach would have become overgrown in some way after 37 years.

"Never Hike Alone" is right. Always bring a friend that you know you can outrun to ensure the killer gets distracted with them so you can make your escape. Jokes aside, this was awesome. I wasn't sure if it was even possible to make Jason scary again with how ridiculous he got in most of the sequels but damn this made me scared of Jason again. They should give the people behind this fan film full control of making the next full length Friday feature film.
