Great content thank you so much Tim! You have single handedly taught me how to fence in my 20 acres. There is lots of “promotional” rubbish when it comes to fence building but not here you do right. MANY THANKS!

Brilliant idea for a real problem. Well done

That bracket would need to be dead plumb otherwise over 1km, depending on rise/fall you’ll be miles out of line. I know some lasers will self calibrate on the vertical plane, I think that would be the preferred type of laser in my opinion.

Thanks Tim, & Andrew, well that beats my mates old rifle scope he used for years to get a straight line., Cheers.

Hopefully not attached to the rifle...

@@FarmLearningTimIve used that method as well! It was attached to the rifle but my brother who was the “dummy down the line” made damn sure he had the bolt in his pocket!!!😂 We got a great result but my mother and respective wives were horrified. Our Dad was impressed we were thinking laterally to solve a problem!!!

a special bracket may not be necessary. one of my laser levels does horizontal, vertical, both at the same time and another mode that allows you to choose your own perpendicular. but oh boy, lasers are so much better than long string lines or hoses filled with water.

@@TheGrizzlyBeer david white m2xt. i cant remember how long ago i bought it. it was bought from a specialist surveyor's equipment store long before tool stores or bunnings carried such stuff. ive seen others like it which i bet were badge engineered versions of them. it has a 5 stage button. 1 horizontal. 2 vertical. 3 both. if out of balance the beam flickers. 4 horizontal and vertical but no flicker when set at an angle of your choosing. 5 off. it projects an angle of about 110 degrees. i scored another bigger thing at a bargain price that just shows horizontal. it spins and self corrects. unfortunately the beam ceases when it is self correcting. which means i swear at it waiting for the bloody beam to turn back on. its a bloody nuisance. in short i hate it.

@@vsvnrg3263sounds like it may be the type of laser used for setting out tile and other relatively short range (like 50m) stuff. This guy is using a rotating laser, like what is used for setting grade in trenches for pipes, which is why he needs the bracket- those don’t come in a vertical plane type

@@c4fishfood , good point. i think i used it over 200m. you would need to check suitability before purchasing.

Is there a way to dial it to 90 or 180 degree (straight east/west or north/south) or any other angle?

Great idea... I thought about something like this, but I never thought you could just put the laser on an angle... Any recommendations on what gear to use?

Looks like a good thing but one question...laser is the same as regular light and will be shadowed by obstructions. In undulating terrain, how does this system account for and overcome the inevitable shadow caused by rises and shooting over valleys?

you put the detector on a long pole and hold it up high. lasers are still better than a string line despite such limitations.
@kezzatries

@@vsvnrg3263 not always, when it comes to building structures, I have many a time set up a string line and started the job, long before my contractors have gotten their lazer set up. String line and a plumb Bob, sometimes the analog method is the best method.

Not millimeter perfect over a kilometer - that laser would diffuse far wider than that over a km.
