Isnt it better to just stop drinking like crazy instead of stop drinking at all? Problems coming when you eat too much drink too much run too much work too much. People doing all sort of things too much and then regret. But if you drink a bottle of wine every week with family or a beer or even few shots of vodka once in a week you not alcoholic.

@@sajuente8235 No it isn't. Some people can't stop when they start so need to avoid it completely. People who binge need to avoid it as well.

Nearly 70 years old and I found I was no longer enjoying alcohol. Drinking for the sake of it. Not that I drank heavily, never binge drinking, cant remember the last time I was drunk, I would have a couple of cans of beer a night. Now I drink alcohol free beer, the Guinness is great, I feel more alert, hard to explain. Having a dodgy liver , caused by years of drinking, and medication I was taking just help me to make this commitment. Good luck, I hope you can keep alcohol free, 2 years for me now. I'm sure you can also do it.

But it all caught up with me and my wallet, I started slowing right down and then just stopped.. And that was that! 22 years and counting of complete zero booze.

Exactly!! I thought I could test out Heineken Zero that I had gotten used to for 3 months and did a purely scientific test and bought 1 bottle of real Heineken to try them side by side after 3 months which is the first and longest time without alcohol for the first time in over 21 years! It tasted like chemicals/methylated spirits!! Before I knew it I was back drinking again...still doing it now.....

I "struggled" mightily for many years. Then one day, when I could no longer live with the guy in the mirror, I completely surrendered. That was the moment my recovery began. From that day forward, the "struggle" was OVER! My focus shifted from "struggling" to "not drink", to changing ME...the ROOT PROBLEM. The more I worked to change ME, the less alcohol was a part of my consciousness. Otherwise known as "FREEDOM".✌

I agree. 👍. 20 years in the Military and then many years as a Publican? Boozing was just a part of my life. I'm now 71 and I no longer drink like I used to. I was " tea total " for about 5 years. It was a struggle, but I stuck with it. Now I have the odd drink at social events. But now I control the drink. The drink no longer controls me. I've lost weight, I've reduced my waistline and now I feel like I'm back into a healthy, fit life.

That's great news Gareth. You can do this !! Well done mate !! I stopped drinking alcohol, 8 months today after 50+ years, similar reasons. I can relate to your feeling better and just sitting in the garden relaxing as you said. You are well on the way to getting sorted. Thanks for your updates, you are also helping so many others along the way. We are all with you Gareth. Take Care !!

Keep reminding yourself of how much better you feel, you're doing wonderfully well. Don't ever let complacency creep in, keep reminding yourself of the reason you stopped. You're back in control. Remain there, be really f"cking stubborn. Best wishes fella.

You'll get to the point where you're subconscious stops planting seeds and you'll go days and weeks without thinking about booze. I've got a wine rack full of decent bottles and my Son left some tinnies in the fridge before he went away again and I look at it every day, but I don't see it anymore and just go straight to the kettle or the water cooler !! Keep it going mate. We are all proud of you and we're in this together. 👊🏻👌🏻😉

I made 2 Gallons of wine in August 98, 2 months before I stopped Drinking. I had to put Sodium Metabisulfite in it last year, because it never stopped fermenting. It will be 26 years old this coming October, and is about 14%. I have kept it all these years as a Test of my Sobriety, and it's for my Wake. 69 y.o. and counting.

Good for you! I rewatched the video you made day 1, my god, the difference!! I’m on my own journey. Seven years sober this fall. It makes me proud to know that my kids wont associate being grown up with drinking. They never see their dad drinking. Also, whatever happens, i can always drive the car. I’m always sober and ready to help out.

Similar thing happened to me on the 25th of May after Celtic and Rangers game, fell over pished broke my ribs and smashed all my face in. Wake up call so knocked 20 years of binge drinking on the head. Just over a month off it now and as you say, the weekends seem so much more fullfilled now, spending more time with my kids rather than sat drinking cans then riding hangovers. It's no life to be living a complete waste! Good luck in your journey pal

Congratulations!! Just keep going, one day at a time. The short-term benefits of sobriety, which you are experiencing now are wonderful. The long-term benefits, which you will experience in a few years are so deep and rich that it is hard to describe them. It’s in the realm of relationships that this will be most pronounced and I guarantee your gratitude for you decision to become and stay sober will only continue to grow. 🙏
