NEVER TOO SMALL

4 жыл бұрын

Architect Jean Graham from Winter Architecture together with the client and their carpenter designed a unique space designed for a family of four. The Compartment Apartment divides and arranges the 45m2 space to allow every family member a sense of privacy. Scandinavian style interior fittings using re-purposed joinery for kitchen and new converted Ikea furniture expands the utility of the space and storage. While curtains separate rooms from each other but still allow light to pass through; maintaining a sense of what's beyond. www.winterarchitecture.com.au

Love the overall design but I don’t feel comfortable having my bedroom in the middle of the living room. I would swap the bed with the dining table and install partitions or order a Murphy bed such that the kids have room to play while the parents are in the living room. Imagine you have guests for dinner and they will be looking at the bedroom even with the drape which cuts out the natural light and lovely view. Just a thought. The color scheme is calming and refreshing.
@nofurtherwest3474
@nofurtherwest3474 4 жыл бұрын
I think what I would have done was put the master bed in the kids room near the window. Basically cut that room in half. The kids could use bunk beds. They would have less play space BUT then in the living area you could essentially make that the living/play area. Tear out the wall separating the kitchen and put a kitchen island that would also be the dining table. That'd really open up the space visually. Then the current master bed / dining could be used as all living room and / or play area. The actual sleeping area can be small if they are only using it for sleeping.

@nofurtherwest3474
@nofurtherwest3474 4 жыл бұрын
@@sharong8511 Agreed. It might work if they had a sleep sofa. As a sofa it is a regular sofa, then to sleep the bed pulls out from underneath. The seating is different from the bed mattress. But it is more work. I probably would have removed that long cabinet along the wall to open the space up more to try and fit both a dining area and living area, that way the adult bedroom could just be dedicated for such.

I like seeing options that can work for a family. So many of these tiny apartments look like they are only built for one person, even with a bed for two. This is a definite squeeze, but if you live somewhere with good outdoors options I think this can work.

The apartment has full functionality, each space is used to the maximum, the spaces between them have an optimal relationship, the use of furniture in relation to the wall is also very well thought out due to the need for decoration and storage, in the bathroom. The children take several points in favor since it is a room for two, they are given some privacy, storage and a work or play area, the social area is in the middle of the apartment but it is designed so that they cannot see the more private areas such as the rooms, the kitchen also has enough space for storage and the cabinets that are throughout the house also turn out to be quite useful, since they take advantage of every space that they have left, the detail of the folding table is quite ingenious since It is known that there will not always be visitors and the use of the kitchen as user is agreed.
