In this video I will review the pros and cons of three push sticks that I use all the time with my table saw: the Micro-Jig Grr-Ripper, my Ridgid R4520 stock push stick, and a homemade one that I will also show you a quick overview of how to make!
If you're interested in the Micro-Jig, below is a link to their website where I purchased it:

Thank you for the great video. Now I’m sold on the Gripper. It’s pretty versatile. The only downside is, as a beginner woodworker I always have my safety guards on my table-saw. It’s unfortunate that the Gripper won’t work with the safety guards. I probably have to step up and live with the riving knife alone.

That is the downfall indeed, but you can leave the guard on for wider cuts still

I have only used the style of push stick that you have made for the last 45 years. These are easily made from scrap as shown and very safe in use. Drill a hole in the end of the handle face and you can store them on a hook on your saw cabinet for quick access when needed. I can’t think of any circumstances where these can’t do the job well. The Microjig push blocks are really nice but you ideally need two push blocks of any design to be effective which makes these an expensive investment. The large size of “The Grr-Ripper” is more comfortable in hand than the others but more difficult to store. A matching pair of Grr-Rippers can run $60 to $250 depending upon style chosen. The third one being the long handle plastic stick in my opinion is not a choice I would prefer as they can be hazardous if that plastic hits the saw blade and shatters. I don’t like how little contact and control of the workpiece you have with these things. Every one of us has their own experiences with these and I have always passed no matter how they are made.

Thanks for the comment! You make some very valid points for sure. I haven't been able to use the Micro Jig in all situations, so I typically end up using the homemade ones in that case.

@@TimberDesigns Microjig makes fine woodworking tools and I do own several of their designs. The only push blocks of theirs I have are a pair of GRR-RIP BLOCK Smart Pushblocks. They get a lot of regular use on all of my machines in the shop. I find them great buys and highly recommend them against all other standard pushblocks especially for the jointer. I’ve often thought about purchasing the GRR-Rippers but for the price I usually pass for something, anything else I might truly need than to make another upgrade purchase for a tool I am entirely satisfied with. To each their own. Good video and topic.

Thank you! I like the push blocks as well, haven't got a set of them yet but may do so soon to use on the router table 😁
