@@John2E0GTU On a different bike, The Honda CB125R is still for sale here, but they seem to have stopped with the CB300R, I would think because of our super silly licence laws in the UK regarding learners, there is not that much of a shout for a 300, think about it, once you have passed your big bike test, would you buy a 300cc bike. They are aimed at commuting unfortunately. My wife just bought a new 2021 Cb125r and I had thought of buying a 300 to join her when riding out, cant seem to get a new one. I know there are other manufactures out there, but I do like the look of the Honda. Gee.

@@geewhite32 unfortunately bigger bikes seem more popular for some reason. even if u only have the A2 license, most people will buy a bigger bike and restrict it to 48hp. in case of the honda tho, it seems like they discontinued the bike because of euro6, as far as i can tell? or at least what the internet tells me.

I liked your honesty at the end Bob. I bought a YZF R125 as my learner, it was a 2009 albeit that was 5 years ago. I paid £1500 for it, £40 for a service, had it for 6 months, passed my test and sold it for £1500. Learners buying new 125's is a financially bad idea unless money is no object. A 125 does, I agree make a great city hopper.

I'm so glad that someone has finally mentioned the problem with linked brakes. I'm learning and planning to move on to bigger bikes. My main issue with the majority of these chinese bikes are they look good but they all have linked brakes and whether as a learner they are a good thing, no one ever seems to address this, even on youtube, so glad you did. Of course all the dealers say it's no problem, but they are trying to sell a bike. For me learning on a smaller bike should echo the larger bikes.

Now I moved to Switzerland, have kids, looking for a calmer life. I'm looking at this bike to make some rides around the place on country roads. This can even take me on the highway, so I can reach all the Alps. Do you think this can do the Alps with 60-80 kmph? I'm a heavy guy with 110kg, and this is my only concern

yeah its insane how prices rose over the last 5 years. 2015 bikes were priced at around 3000. now we are at least 4500. I mean there are cheaper bikes as the brixton 125 chromewell for example, which cost about 2800 with abs, but those are cheaply priced for a reason. 125 should get affordable again. because for 5000-6000 u can get new 300cc or newly used 650ccs

Is it worth £4,500? Nope! Is it cool? Yup 👍🏻 Horses for courses I guess, if I was a 17 year old now on ‘L’ plates, with a view to passing my test, I’d be inclined to buy a cheap-ish reliable used bike. If I wanted a quality 125 to ride about on, then I could be persuaded, however, there are a lot of quality 125’s from Mash, Sinnis et al. Yes, they’re Chinese-derived bikes, but at the end of the day, you pay your money & takes your choice I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

Given that it's considerably better quality than the Chinese junk, you'll spend more time riding on a better bike and less time getting it fixed and sourcing parts. Then when it comes to sell you'll lose less than you would on Chinese and you'll be putting a quality bike on to the used market. If you can afford it, do it. Too many broke people saying not to buy these new 125s because they can't afford one themselves

Well, it's good looking, got good performance, it's well built and it's got good residuals.... But, when I had a 125 my priorities were, (1) cheap enough to afford (2) something I could repeatedly crash without it costing much... And something to quickly pass my test on to quickly move up to a big bike. It makes sense if you have the money and are definitely going to keep and look after it. But it's a lot of money for a 'learner'... My 125 in 91 cost me £150.....

This isn't a bike for new learners. This is for us Gen Xers with midlife crisis and too little time to go for a full A1 license. There's several countries where you can ride 125cc if you're an experienced car license holder (Spain, Italy) or with a short course with no test on top of your car license (Germany, Austria). Here in Austria, the short course is 1 day and costs around €200,-. The full A1 course would take weeks and cost around €1000,- or so if you pass the test on the first try. Plus, they're all booked out until next spring due to the pandemic.

If you can afford it, go for it. It's a great bike very easy to ride. Great for starters and will probably sell at a good second hand price when you decide to move on to a bigger bike.

Korea? Even Korean brands gave up on local manufacturing because of the cost constraints a long ago. Lol

I was thinking of Hyosung
@instant_karma6831
@instant_karma6831 2 жыл бұрын
@@motobob oh.. Hyosung does not manufacture motorcycles anymore. KR Motorcycles emerged as a legacy brand after Hyosung separated from Suzuki in the late 90's, but they failed miserably. KR has some, but no 'significant' motorcycle manufacturing facilities in Korea; rather, they only maintain sales and essential service facilities to market and maintain Chinese motorcycles, either as OEM or SKD. Almost all Korean motorcyle parts suppliers vanished after Daelim and Hyosung separated from Honda and Suzuki, and it was like 20 years ago. And Korea has changed so much during those 20 years. I mean, it wouldn't make any managerial sense to manufacture a entry class motorcycles which sell for less than 6,000 dollors in a country where GDP per capita exceeds USD 30,000 when you can simply do the same in Vietnam or China for a fraction of the costs.

£4500!? That's RC390 money. And where I'm from, there's the XSR155 which costs the equivalent of £2370. Costing double that for having no assist and slipper clutch, 30 less cubes and 5 less hp is ridiculous.

No, it isn't worth it. In Thailand, it's a 155. Same engine as my Yamaha Aerox 155 twist and go scooter, plus a manual box. They fly. I bet this 125 version is flat. At this sze, 30 cc makes a lot of difference.
