This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler SUVs. Both the Ford Bronco and Jep Wrangler are off-road ready body-on-frame SUV built to take on the roughest roads. The Ford Bronco is a little bit longer and wider than the Wrangler and offers more front headroom and legroom, but the Wrangler has more second row space. The Bronco is the winner for overall cargo capacity and cargo space behind the 2nd row.The Jeep Wrangler has five engines to choose from and the Bronco two. The Jeep has a standard 3.6L V6 with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 8-speed automatic, 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 2L 4-cylinder, a
Diesel, PHEV and a 6.4L Hemi V8 in the new Rubicon 392. The Ford Bronco comes standard with a 2.3L Ecoboost engine with a 7-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission, 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The manual transmission is not available on two 4-door trims, the base model and top Wildtrak trim, but all other trims get the 7-speed manual on the 2.3L engine. There is also a 2.7L Ecoboost V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Both the Bronco and Wrangler are equally as capable off-road as they are on road. However, the Bronco offers a smoother drive in the city there is no drifting, it tracks straight on city streets where as the Wrangler tends to wander at times especially with bigger tires. The Bronco has available best in class water fording capability of 33.5 inches when equipped with the Sasquatch package or 31.5 inches without. The Wrangler gets 30 inches of water fording. Both can tow up to 3500 pounds.
The Wrangler and Bronco come with similar standard features. However, there are some differences, the Bronco has wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, the Jeep wired. The Wrangler comes standard with a 5” touchscreen on the base 2-door model, a 7” touchscreen on the base 4-door and an optional 8.4” touchscreen. The Bronco comes with a standard 8” touchscreen with an optional 12” touchscreen. Both have packages available for extra features like a heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

You could buy both. Get the Jeep now, trade it for a 2023 Bronco when thing settle down and you won't loose much money at all. That thing retains it's value like nothing else.

I was torn between the Rubicon 4xe and the badlands. What made my decision was I can't get a Ford until probably next year and I got $9000 off the Rubicon because of the electric plug-in. It's been over 3 weeks and near 600 miles and I still have 1/2 tank of fuel from the dealership. I'm extremely happy with it!

Thanks for another comparison video. Ford obviously did a thorough job researching the market. I think they have nailed the styling and packaging (for uniqueness). Well done them! Still pricey though.

The number of different trims, packages etc are too overwhelming lol I think only true fans will have the patience to figure out the exact combination they want.

It was challenging for us. I did so much research before we left that other journalists were asking me for my notes. What are those, can I have them? I said, that will cost you, these notes are only for Motormouth. lol! I could have sold them for some big bucks.

Something I noticed with the Wrangler..the tunnel on the standard transmission has no dead pedal space. So you’re forced to rest your foot on the clutch pedal or stuff it underneath..not so with the Bronco it has a dead pedal space…. I guess in an attempt to make the cabin smaller on the Wrangler years ago they made the foot tunnel smaller… and probably 80% of the Wranglers will be sold with an automatic …. Interesting my old CJ5 had a dead pedal space , one step forward two steps back ..

The new Bronco is a very well designed and thought out vehicle. Ford really did their research and development on this new generation Bronco. Once the roof rattle issue is resolved their won't be much to fault this very capable off road utility vehicle. The Jeep is a proven and very capable off road vehicle as well but it has a serious new competitor on the block. Good comparison between these two titans. 👏

@@andreaspencer9813 on looks alone the Bronco wins. The Wrangler is an icon that is to be reckoned with. Jeep will be busy making the next generation Wrangler better than the Bronco. This battle of the American go anywhere utility vehicles has just started. Jeep already threw in the 392 V8 to make a statement.. and I love it! Hopefully Ford will offer more engine choices like a phev or a diesel option would suit this new Bronco perfectly. I don't think a V8 engine option will be in the cards though. Ford may eventually make a higher output ecoboost V6 like the one in the Raptor. That would be 🔥 if they did offer that.

The numbers of options and packages available for both, are able to challenge the dime-and-nickel tradition of German luxury brands. Given Ford's 1st year reliability, and FCA's notorious iffy long-term reliability. I would lease both before buying them out. But the heritage of Wrangler is unbeatable. However, Bronco's civilized on road manners are more appealing to most people. Wrangler is a safer choice until Bronco has been proven, in terms of resale value and reliability (or lack, there of). Have anyone noticed the plastic feel of Bronco's so-called leather steering wheel? It feels more cheesy than many plastic steering wheel.

Great overview and comparison, you always focus on the most important and interesting features in a very concise way. Regarding the residual value for the Bronco, I think that number is much lower than the market will see, given high demand and low initial production. Ford is charging monthly payments people are willing to make now for a hot vehicle, which leads to a lower residual. I expect some may sell the early Broncos for more than the new price, similar to early Miatas.

I recall a jeep liberty with a diesel engine. There was talk of a mazda cx-5 diesel and chevy had a diesel equinox. Diesel is good why it never took off in Canada?

I like them both. Initially liked the Bronco more, now I have seen the Bronco more I am liking the Wrangler more. That being said if I had to pick between the two I would but the Land Rover Defender. 😉

Buy the Jeep…much better in a lot of ways! The solid front axle in the Jeep is a must have!

The Jeep had only two engine option each of its new generations, give Ford a chance, it’s only the first year! lol BTW, the Jeep’s 4xe and diesel are not very good, the 4xe is a bit of a novelty at best and the diesel is way too expensive to drive and has issues in the heat, two friends lost power last weekend on the Coquihalla, coincidence…highly unlikely! Yes, speaker directly over your head is idea placement, I think I’m going to try that at home…NOT! Come on, do either one of you really have any off road experience, your comment cry out NO! lol 🐴🐴🥌

How's the 4xe a novelty? Take a look at the TFL race between it and the 2.7 bronco and see how badly the that wrangler destroys it. With the rebates it's a popular choice in USA. Ford will bring a PHEV asap to compete is my guess. Don't need to have tons of off road experience to know the Bronco is better on road and Wrangler is more capable off road.

Well@@gs98999 It’s obvious by your response that it does take some off road experience, just for start, it can only do a couple of miles on electricity only trail running, which is useless and when you run out of juice you’re driving a very very heavy Jeep with a 2.0L, not very desirable for anyone actually using there ride off road, but fine for a Mall Crawler! lol What video are you referring to, because the only thing the 4xe destroyed was it’s right rear wheel? lol Personally I believe we are still a few years away from off roading in silence…

@@thepavementendsnow1901 We all know that a very small % of these will actually go off road. And even when you do you still spend most of your ownership on road. I will grant that 4xe wouldn’t be my first choice as I do go out there often. But for the people that don’t I can see the appeal of getting to work or just around on the 20 or whatever miles it can do silently. And it has lots of power when you have the ev mode helping. Video I’m referring to is TFL racing the two where it shows just how much more powerful and faster the Jeep is. Yes I know that’s not what these vehicles are about, but it’s nice to have that option. Would rather have a fast Jeep than a slow one if I have a choice. Either way. Ford needs more engines, they have them, and they are coming I’m sure of it.
