The screen wobble is by design and I can confirm the 3rd xls has it too. Apparently, perfectly tight ones in older original versions were cracking hinges.

Nintendo ending the eshop causes nothing but trouble. Not only for games that demand triple digit prices, but also games with DLC, so now the DLC is lost.

Ive had the 3DS XL since launch. I am absolutely blown away with how expensive they are now, I feel fortunate to still have mine. Its in very good condition with only some minor scratches.

I got my N2DSXL last November for about 120 dollars, came in mint condition, sealed and all. Aboslutely not disappointed with it, although I did buy a shell for it to deal with the flimsy feeling. Now the only NewDSXL's I can see for that price look like they've been dropped from a moving car! It is crazy how rare and expensive the NewDSXL line has become in only the last few months. If it were just 6 months ago I'd whole heartedly recommend picking one of these up, but now someone getting into the 3DS family will have to do serious hunting :( I do love this black sheep of a console but time will not be kind to it at this rate

Bought one lightly used, in the box with a copy of Link BetweenWorlds for $65 on offer up years ago. Modded it and have used the hell out of it. Also picked up a refurb from Nintendo to keep as a backup.

Had my New 3DS LL sit around for a while and I finally modded it a few months back and it’s definitely a game changer. Natively running 3DS/DS/GBA/GBC/GB games, I’ve had zero issues with it. I never had an NES/SNE/N64 growing up, so I don’t think I’d be missing about by not trying to emulate them, but for PSP emulation, I think I have my eyes on a Vita next. Some of the options for emulation (Anbernic, Retroid, etc etc) seem to require some tinkering to get the frames at a good rate to run. My only concern with the Vita is the age and how soon I’d need to crack it open to replace the battery

I love my 3DS, but I wouldn't buy a new one nowadays. The prices I've seen for some of them are literally the price I paid for both my system AND the capture card mod it has. Only real issue is that there's not really a cool handheld emulation system with 2 screens, that's the main reason I'll be holding on to mine. The games don't feel the same without it.

Bought myself N2DS XL few weeks ago, and yeah, i guess n3dsxl would be better. But i got mine in not that bad condition for 150$ and feel happy. Also, talking about emulating games, no one talks 'bout PS1, haven't tried a lot yet, but some games work good. Thank you for the video, looking forward to see more content

If you were ever wanting to get a 3DS system, out of any system to avoid the 2DS XL is up there at number 1, not only is the system some how more uncomfortable to hold over every other 3DS system, but it feels super cheap, and flimsy when using it, the hinges on the sides are really loose, and while that may be to the systems benefit since it won't be gaining to much strain on the hinges by doing this, it makes it super jiggly when playing and doesn't make the system feel solid, also this system was notorious for get the screen smudge and even in some cases cracked if you put a minor amount of pressure for a period of time, this js in part due to Nintendo thinking it was a good idea to decrease the width and thickness of the screen, because the screen is a lot closer to the shell of the system it now has this added problem where it can be super fragile if breathed on wrong

I bought the Zelda shield Edition and I got rid of it, I watched a teardown video and the video showed that the battery is glued to the inside of the case it's not meant to be replaced or removed but in every other model the battery can be swapped out easily

I actually like the way the 2ds XL looks like. I like the black and blue colors. I bought one on clearance at Walmart for like $80 years ago and I barely touched it for years. I finally got around to playing on it again and I fell in love years later! I have big hands so it got uncomfortable so I got a grip case and it's amazing! I live in Germany and the used prizes are still rather normal. Sure, I see some people trying to sell the New 3DS XL for 250 or 300 €. But on the other hand there are still loads of options for 100 € or less, especially parents who sell the consoles of their kids to buy a switch or something. I could right now pick up a NEW 2DS XL for 70 € or a NEW 3DS XL for 90 €. I sold my new 3ds xl for 130 € about 2 years ago bought my new 3ds I use right now for 75 € in December and I absolutely love it. And my girlfriend got a regular 2DS for Christmas and it was 45 € including Pokemon Moon and 5 other games. And for this amount of money, the 3DS line still is absolutely worth buying, especially when you mod it and use it for DS and stuff. I'm glad I'm back to the smaller New 3DS, it's very portable and I have my whole game library always with me.

Bought my 2ds xl for € 89,- in 2018 and still very happy with it ! Glad I always buy my games psychical. Same goes for the switch all nintendo titles i have , I have the cartridges. Only titles like witcher as digital content

I got my New (generation) 3ds non LL from Japan with mario bros for ds lite. It was like $115 usd after taxes and important. I eventually removed region lock. Importing older consoles can make more sense if you can find the right deal.

So, I perfectly understand your argument that for the current price asked on second hand market, 3ds xl is a better choice. Yes, indeed. If I were to lose my 2ds xl due to my clumsiness (almost lost it once because of a fall) or because of another reason, and if switches are still as scandalously expensive as now, I'd go for a used 3ds xl instead. But for the moment, I try to take care of my 2ds xl. And I must add that my soul is not clean. It never was.

there's no reason at all not to hack your 3ds at this point as the online store is gone and the only way to find games is through 2nd hand products, not always an easy task. i have mine for 4 years and still use it almost daily. It's a great device for quick gaming sessions that only Switch lite can rival, due to its smaller form factor compared to the regular switch.

I was actually thinking about how it’s crazy to see that the 2ds xl seem to be more expensive than the old 3ds xl considering my friends always didn’t recommend that console because of the build quality (back in 2020 when they announced they weren’t going to manufacture anymore I was taking advice on which console to get- but couldn’t afford any) I’m really glad I waited and I feel super lucky to have been able to get the acnl pattern old 3ds LL (which was my dream console for the longest time) from Japan with original box for around $160. Not only that, the console is in amazing shape. I learned how to mod my DSi so I felt confident enough to mod a 3ds, since that was the only way I could play my usa games. Long tangent aside, as a big Nintendo fan it’s sad to see how expensive the consoles are getting, but I guess that’s just the way the market can be.

Regarding your Video and the 2/3DS - I myself use a New 3DS, got a New 2DS XL (Pokeball Edition) and my GF has the New 3DS XL, so I can cross reference some of the consoles a bit. The Build Quality on the N2DS is ... bad. The Plastic feels cheap (and is already cracking), this especially doesn't help if you have to open the console for repairs or a battery replacement. Also, the two halves of the console are not just screwed together, but also clipped together quite tightly, which makes opening it rather nervewracking. The Top Shell is also glued to the console, so have fun replacing the top screen. And the most infuriating part? The Battery in itself is the same one as in the N3DSXL - but its glued to the Mainboard of the console unnecessarily. Removing it felt like that either the Battery or the PCB breaks. The N3DSXL already feels kinda "toy-ish" compared to the N3DS in my opinion, but the N2DS feels like a McDonalds Toy material wise. Also, "pirating" the 3DS Games, which are not being sold by Nintendo themselves anymore, is more or less a Grey Area and it's not straight illegal. The legality depends on where you live and what exactly you do. In my Country (Germany), it's fine to download and use pirated games (of any kind, even new AAA ones) for yourself, but you're not allowed to share/upload them (like via a Torrent or simply putting them on your Discord/Mediafire/Google Drive).

How are 3ds and 2ds so expensive! I bought mine used like 3 years ago for like 600zł (like 145usd) and where i bought it there was also a 2ds for 450 zł (about 110usd) these prices are crazy. Edit: both were in great condition too apart from a little bit of dust or smh beetween the top screen and the screen protector

I got my N2DS XL at Classic Game Fest in Austin. 300 bucks wasn't a bad deal, It's not cheap but I'd rather spend 300 flat in public rather than spend almost 500 (plus shipping) with a possible chance of getting scammed. Never in my life have I made what I thought was a terrible decision ended up being the best purchase in that year, and I got horribly sick that time.

Imo a a Microsoft Surface Duo is the definitive way to play DS games. You can get one for around the same price as a new 3ds xl too

I have 2x New 3DSXL, 1x 2DS and 1 x New 2DSXL. It is my favourite console ever, I play everyday (I own a switch too by the way) and my daughters (7 and 4) love them. I am planning to buy another New #DSXL for spare parts in the future and probably a New 3DS.

It doesn't matter to me , My new 3ds XL galaxy version is in his prime and I play with it everyday 10/10 . I trow away the box back then yes i was a fool . if you find one don't doubt and buy it , you wont regret :)

Just bought my first DS in the New 2DS XL. It’s smaller for my hands, has the same process, is backwards compatible with the DS games and NO 3D! I’ve never been a fan of 3D period and spending extra 100 for a bulkier, 3D effect that ik I won’t use is pointless. I owned a DS a long time ago but it broke and I walked away from Nintendo till 2018 and bought a Switch because at the time of the DS all my friends weren’t playing Mario, Smash, Zelda, Mario Party and Metroid. I don’t regret buying a New 2DS XL in late 2023 because I missed out on a lot of games and it’s hard to enjoy Nintendo when they treat their older franchises like crap on newer devices which leads to piracy which I am against but it’s hard not to now a days.

If you're buying physical secondhand, you're only paying other people (and eBay/whatever site the item is sold through). No money is going to the developers/publishers. Also, download-only and DLCs are completely abandonware right now.

The 2DS is best option to get it has no hinge which happens to break and it's easier to take apart for repairs.

If you're playing retro games on the new3ds family and it's bad emulation, then you're doing something wrong. The new3ds consoles are the Premier handhelds for retro nintendo ROM emulation. I'm assuming you're just using retroarch

11:05 I'm not sure how you're going about emulating on the N2DS XL, but you really shouldn't be having any issues with any of the consoles that it's able to handle. GB/GBC/GBA/NES/SNES/Genesis should all run flawlessly because you can run all of them through the Virtual Console. I see that you have Twilight Menu++ installed, so I'm assuming that you're using that for all your emulation purposes, which you should NOT be doing. Twilight Menu++ on 3DS is really only good for NDS games. The built in emulators for other consoles do definitely struggle at times, but you don't have to use Twilight Menu++. You can just use a program on your PC called New Super Ultimate Injector Tool for 3DS to create a .cia file for each rom, launch it from your home screen, and run it through the Virtual Console with zero performance issues. The 3DS may not be able to emulate things like PS1 or Dreamcast very well, or at all, but it emulates all Nintendo handheld consoles and even some older home consoles excellently. So saying that emulation in general is bad on the console is not accurate. You just have to do your research, like with any other emulation. The 3DS is quite literally the only proper way to emulate NDS games because of the dual screens, and the NDS game library is huge with some amazing titles. I whole heartedly agree that the prices for these things has gotten completely out of control though. $300 for a console that has been discontinued for years now, but isn't old enough to be considered retro yet, is ludicrous. It's can emulate all Nintendo handhelds though, the pandemic definitely didn't help the prices, and Nintendo closing down the eShop was the final nail in the coffin. Sadly, I don't see the prices for these going down any time soon because people are still buying them.

I think you should buy by preference. You want a GBA, DS, 3DS or Switch go buy whatever. You need to shop around to get later systems at a reasonable price. Nintendo's IPs will never disappoint.

eh, not sure fam. From a guy who has had one since its inception, the 2DS XL is a solid little machine and with certain "shop" alternatives, it has some really awesome new life. Not only that, but 3D for me was a gimmick i never got into. That is to say, its not a bad gimmick, there are some people who die by the 3D aspect but I'm in the rare camp of " thank you kindly, but no thanks" in terms of 3D. The prices are a hard part to circumvent though, I have to be honest, mine only cost me 100 bucks new when I got it at bestbuy, so yeah, finding it cheap now is gonna be hard. ALL in all, though, the console is pretty solid and I play games like Megaman X the SNES version, Gameboy games, and other titles aside from core 3DS titles and they run really well.

just get a used 3DS and mod it.

So I went to the retro games store and I saw a Pokémon 3ds XL Pokémon and they were selling it for 350.00 I’m like that’s too much 😔 so I went to Gamestop like an Hour away and I ask this guy if they got any 3ds XL and when he shows and told me he got one I taught it looks dirty and little scratch up outside like maybe 4 scratch and the inside when you open the 3ds it looks totally brand new no scratch on screen top and bottom and when I saw the screen looks smuggled dirty so I was like do I buy it 😂 but the price was 180.00 but I take my chances of getting it and when I got home and clean the screen my 3ds XL looks like a Brand New 3ds XL and I check everything buttons and the Battery 🪫works and I am sooooo Happy that everything works fine
