Welcome to another episode! In this episode I race at the Met Regatta on Dorney Lake once more. I have adjsuted my training slightly and have been attempting to adjust my technique and have been excited to see how it has helped my on water speed. Since I have been training in Scotland alone, I was not sure where I was compared to others but it turns out I have put myself in quite a good position. I performed well in the time trial which boosted my confidence and then was able to step on from that in the final with a new personal best for an on water 2k, of 7:07 in a single! Really pleased to feel that the training has been paying off and excited to see how we get on later in the season!

Wooow cam, Watching your progress in a single these last few years has really motivated me to finally get myself back in a boat instead of keep coaching, It's been incredible to watch just how fast you've gotten. Maybe it's the angle and the equipment you use for recording, but I feel like your boat used to stop at the catch, now you're flying through so smoothly. Congrats for the regatta!

Absolutely fantastic Cam 🏅 I was following the live results on Saturday and when you were 3rd fastest in a very close group of four I thought - game on! Then the final result came in with the win - what a reward after the last 2 years plus coming away with another MET 1x Gold!!! On the start the 3 boats in shot had the advantage but to row through and win was brilliant big man (shame you cannot keep the cup but your name is on it). It’s the first race too where you looked far more stable at the catch and despite the obligatory visit to the pain cave, you were not boarder line going to chuck up 😎

Yeah as soon as I saw the result in the time trial I knew I was in a good place rowing wise! Unfortunately no name on the cup anymore they stopped that a long time ago!! 100% more in the tank. Just wasn’t fully confident!

But a major confidence boost at the end of the day in that the training is working for both fitness and technique plus the variation, to any doubters, is a big key to motivation - next task: beating a grumpy German at HRR 🤞

Hey Cam, massive congrats on your brilliant efforts at the Met regatta! I for one would love to see a video on how you have varied your training over the last 6 months or so to have achieved such significant progress/improvement. Have you still been doing the same amount of weights & ergs for example? Has the Coastal rowing meant less still water rowing? Did all those miles on the Gold Coast help do you think? I think these topics would be great for a future video. Again, a huge well done. Personally, I hope you do decide to go to HRR, you are going so quick at present!!

Love seeing my man going fast. Just one thing i noticed from my german junior rowing pov: you putting your blades pretty deep in the water right from the catch. Are you doing that on purpose, kind of like Drysdale or smth?

Great job. Big fan of your channel. Any thoughts on those Comp blades? I’m in the market for a new set, but don’t live near any other rowers so I can’t try them before I buy them.

Thanks! I’ve been using them for a few years now and I like them. To me they are easier to row with than other blades. I would say easier to lock on at the front. It can be a little bit of a personal preference though!

I have had athletes on the Yamsquad training program drop more than 20 seconds in 8 weeks. For sure possible but takes a lot of work

Hey Cam. Good race! Just by the way - there is a better way of getting out of a sculling boat (taught me by Ivor Lloyd): a. Undo the water side gate but keep it closed leaving the blade in position. b. Put the two handles together out in front of you. c. Hold the two handles with the outside hand (waterside). d. Put your inside hand (jetty-side) on the thole-pin pushing it onto the jetty. e. Pull on the handles and stand up in the scull and step out. Give it a bash.
