We talked about Porsche’s T-Hybrid electrically assisted turbo 3 days before anyone else. Several other widely-reported rumors turned out to be false. The description is updated with correct info.
Corrections following May 28 reveal:
-The reported engine rumors turned out to be incorrect: The new 3.6 is single-turbo making 478 hp, the electric motor makes 54 hp, for a combined output of 532 hp.
-The electric motor is integrated with the PDK, not directly driving the front wheels as originally rumored.
The upcoming 992.2 has a 400v electric system, but won’t have Active Ride like the Taycan and Panamera Hybrid. That’ll have to wait until a full battery electric 911 appears in 2028. The 911’s t-hybrid system was designed to create horsepower and not for efficiency, which is why it has a small battery like the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. So the battery will be powering the wheels and providing electric assist to the turbo, helping to reduce turbo lag and boost threshold, with a system derived from the LeMans winning Porsche 919 LMP1 hybrid race car.
