I work heavily with all sorts of valves and seals, I recommend to remove the o-ring and lubricate underneath the o-ring as well, this ensure maximum seal by allowing the rubber to freely take the needed shape to facilitate the best over all seal on the mating surface

Thanks David. Its good to know what is available. Price is a bit steep. I think I will stick with my original plan to electrically heat the water as I use it - an inline electric heater in the van. No storage or the losses associated with storing hot water. I have huge battery reserve, so not concerned about power requirements, and I already have the diesel heater.
@thomasbarlow42232 жыл бұрын
Heating water with electricity is a really bad option especially considering the giant heat pump in your van called the engine. I made a heat exchanger inside my water tank to warm the tank with engine coolant. it works really good. 35 gallons hot in 15 mins.
@BenMitro2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbarlow4223 Thanks Thomas, I agree, better to use waste energy from the ICE than generate heat for water, but I have a 4x4 and a camper trailer and the hot water is needed in the camper, so the waste heat from ICE approach is a little impractical. With 13.5kWh or storage and 1.5kW of PV, I can't see any downsides.

On the site, it mentions you can run this air only (without the water) can you run it water only, too? I'd prefer this over the bobil vans product I think. That's why you need a vented tank. It just boils away and the heater continues heating.
@kevinsadler17326 ай бұрын
So you could use a radiator with a vented hole put water in it and the pump would recirculate the water and then just top it up when needed! Or use a vented tank tank with a tap to turn off and on to wash your hands in the garage or shed ect and just keep topping that up when required . ?

Hi David. An other good review of these air&water heaters. Thank you for that. A have a question. Maybe you figured out how the controller works? Does it work as a thermostat keeping the preset temperature? If yes, based on what - air temp, water temp, device temp? My use case: I'd like to put it into my overlanding vehicle and attach it to the engine cooling system. Then use it to preheat the engine in a cold morning. As a bonus it would preheat the interior as well. But I would like either thermal cut off based on temperature of coolant (water) or at least a timer. Can you please share your experience with this type of the controller you have. Is it possible to get different controller for this type of unit or build one based on Arduino? Any info very welcomed. Thanks a lot.

Curious if you've reviewed the diesel water heaters that don't additionally do air? I've been looking at a couple online specifically made for hot water. Now my biggest concern is if you use one of these diesel water heaters in a pressurized system (say, 30-40 PSI) will they crack? Are they safe for showering and dish washing? I've had a heat exchanger from bobil that unfortunately cracked due to the PSI being too high, and it wasn't even heating when it cracked..

This might be a stupid question but I'm looking for one of these heaters to heat my exterior tub. It is a 3000l (~790gallons) water tub which is currently heated with a Snorkel (Scuba) stove. If the water has around 10 degrees Celsius (50F) it takes around 5 - 6 hours to heat up to 39 degress C (102F). I'm looking for a solution to get the water heated maybe a day before since I have access to waste motor oil. What's your tought on this :) ? Thank you!
@PimpMyPc89 Жыл бұрын
None of these heaters do well with even diluted waste engine oil. The additives in oil cause carbon, ash and slag build up in the atomizing mesh as opposed to true oil burners that use high pressure pumps and a nozzle to atomize the oil. They do sell water only variants of this heater that would work much better for just heating water.

Hellloooo.. I’m currently installing one of these models in my van today, thanks for the heads up with your videos… Do you think I can use the afterburner controller with this unit? With a compatible ecu of course from my existing standard 5kw heater… Will afterburner fuel settings be the same for the so called “7kw” and 5kw burners? The supplied pump had no self priming, so had to be lower than the tank to fill the pump with water. Now while this heater will provide hot air and water, unlike the Truma it's both or nothing. You can't just have hot water, or hot air.

Hi David, I run a 5 KWH diesel heater in my greenhouse and run the exhaust in to a 2'' copper pipe that is 10' long then out through the back of the greenhouse, the pipe gets way too hot to put your hand on right down to where it exits the greenhouse. Is it likely they claim 5 KWH output including the heat lost through the exhaust which may or may not be recovered depending on the individual set up ?.

@@DavidMcLuckie seems like the website has a problem. it is mostly down or buggy. yesterday i was able to get the heater into the basket but the website failed to let me acces the payment options. Support seems down also. I got 1 reply a week ago. I asked about the measurements of the diesel heater metal box. After i resend the mail 2 times the support gave me some fairly detailed measurements. I asked for more precise measurements and after 1 week i havent got an answer yet.

would be nice if they make a propane version.

This manufacturer doesn't, but if you search around you'll find it :) They tend to be pricey, but work great 👍🏻

How hot does the water get ?
@DavidMcLuckie7 ай бұрын
Depends how fast you pump it. If I remember correctly it heats water about as well as a 1KW heater.

Did i miss something ....the overall efficiency?

Is about the same as a normal diesel heater as it isn't recovering any heat from the exhaust.

Id love to see ya put a turbo on one just for gigglrs

I was wondering if you could sort of do exactly that for the purpose of driving a small dc generator so that the heater could be completely self powered 😅

With the phasing out of fossil fuels is it really worth it?
@DavidMcLuckie Жыл бұрын
Aww bless you. They'll be phasing it out for at least another 100 years. It's been "running out" for my entire life now.

hello David, is that the only place that sells them?
@DavidMcLuckie2 жыл бұрын
So far I've only seen air and water heaters here, alibaba and occasionally on eBay.

will keep an eye out for one of them. looks fairly solid

Hey , men- ladies checked your air filter on those diesel units you may be in for big surprise inside the round diesel filter was Nothing 0- just plastic cylinder and slits and 1/8" holes on top No filter media in mine So it will real fast peice lawn mower air filter does the trick

The spec of the heater indicates 0.72l/h fuel delivery. Something is wrong somewhere🙂. An expensive water heat-exchanger machine (at over four times the cost of a cheap chinese air heater) makes a home made heat exchanger seem a far better proposition? To get a consistent air temperature for the hot air is easy enough - you simply need to make it turbulent before the measuring point - but that may exceed the allowed pressure drop across the fan system, so care needs to be taken when so doing. Regarding air flow, with laminar flow conditions the maximum velocity will be mid-stream. Theoretically, the velocity adjacent to the pipe wall will be zero (not really very applicable for this set-up, but you can understand that the flow rate will be reduced towards the pipe wall (particularly if it is rough and causes minor turbulence close to the wall). These nuisances, for taking reliable measurements, all add up to large potential errors after doing the calculations. This from someone who has, in the past, carried out careful flow analysis across very much larger flues. We used pitot tubes, rather than your simple hand-held air-flow meter, and still the possible measuring errors were quite substantial.

Very interesting. Yeah, so the spec claims enough fuel to hit 7kw. But as we know from our other tests we can't get enough air in to burn that amount of fuel, hence in testing this heater it's burning about half the stated quantity. Pitot tubes sound like they would be good for measuring the flow of the heater, as the hot air tries to melt my anemometer, but I also expect they'll be a bit pricier. :) Thank you for the measuring tips.
