New Airbus H160M - next generation military helicopter

This is the all new Airbus H160 military helicopter: H160M.
The H160M Guepard is a new medium-lift helicopter being developed by Airbus Helicopters for the French Armed Forces, under the Joint Light Helicopter (Hélicoptère Interarmées Léger - HIL) programme.
The helicopter can be armed with MBDA’s Sea Venom (ANL) anti-ship missiles (ASMs) to perform anti-ship warfare missions. The over-the-horizon missile can engage targets within the range of 20km.
The Airbus H160 was preferred for the HIL programme in 2017 and was originally scheduled to be launched in 2022. The launching of the new helicopter in 2021, ahead of its original schedule, would, however, enable delivery of the first H160Ms to the French Armed Forces from 2026.

This is a beautiful machine which can be used for a variety of tasks. Hope to see more of the H160 in Australia used for Police work and Air Ambulance services, the speed and range are better than similar rotor crafts. The H160 is quieter and has auto pilot capability. Australian Government's should seriously look at this helicopter.

esphi LEE This unicorn horn above and in front of the cockpit and also under the cockpit is used to cut ( câbles électriques) si l’hélicoptère durant son vol venait à se trouver en face. Organe de sécurité. Il évite ainsi que l’hélicoptère ne bascule et se crash. Sorry for my english.

Je travail sur la maintenance gazelle, tigre et cougar depuis 15ans. A voir ce que donnera ce "guépard"... Une machine civil à la base,militarisée... En espérant que Airbus assure l'approvisionnement des pièces, ce qui fait défaut sur les machines actuelles dans les forces...trop de polyvalence tue la polyvalence !

Does anyone know why helicopters manufactured by European companies have main rotors that turn clockwise and American helicopter manufacturers have main rotors turn counter clockwise? I'm sure there are exceptions to this but it appears this is more the rule rather than the exception. This difference can have a profound effect in the operation of the foot pedals.

I'm not sure that this is a Europe/US split, it's more of a west/east split. Most of european and north american manufacturers are using counter clockwise, and most of russian or chinese manufacturers are using clockwise. Note that frenchs being very frenchy don't follow the majority of Europe and use clockwise rotation). As for the difference, I'm not a helicopter pilot myself (but I'm a plane pilot, this is from where I've heard the following) but I've been told multiple times that an helicopter have a "stronger" side (depending of the rotation) and thus it will more easily turn in that direction.

No, the H160M is light, the NH90 is for medium transport purposes. I think it will serve as an armed recon or utility helicopter and to transport special forces.

Non! le H160M nommer Guépard depuis peu est un HIL, hélicoptère d'intervention léger de 6Tonnes, il est destiné à remplacer plusieurs hélicoptères de l'Armée Française comme la gazelle, alouette, panther, fennec... de plus il équipera et c'est une première nos 3 corps d'armée, la Marine, Terre et Air, chacun d'eux aura des spécificités différente selon les besoins de chacun, j'espère avoir pu vous répondre, bonne journée.

Terrible positioning for the Gunner/Engineer. Mount the guns on pintle posts outside the cabin. Your visibility will greatly improve at that point (view angles for the FE/Gunner would open up from about 90 degrees to 160+). This was designed by people who have no real world experience...

Designed by people with no real world experience? Helicopter is derived from french word helicoptere. France built the first helicopter, the Breguet Gyroplane. France was the first to introduce the concept of the air cav during Algerian war, which the US later copied in Vietnam. The H160M is made by Airbus (ex Aerospatiale) at Marignane in France and will replace the Alouette, Fennec, Dauphin, Panthere and Gazelle, which all have successfully served in many armies around the world. So they have plenty of real world experience. In fact Airbus is the biggest helicopter builder in the world! Lastly the side guns are retractable /roll eyes.

But if you knew anything, you would already know it's the same gun mount on the H225M Caracal. Have you flown in combat in one? Obviously no one has since the H160M is not yet operational.
