It’s crazy this boat and 500R is only 7mph faster than my 20ft Bullet with a Mercury Sports XS 225 hp 🤯 I thought this boat would do at least 110

My thoughts exactly. 100k likely. Gimme a Stroker with 2.5 on it and triple digits all day. 85 would be cruising with one hand.

@@garybridges4291 I love my Stroker. I have a modified 280 and a 300X. Haven’t had the 300x on it yet. I’ve had health problems and my boat is waiting to be put back together. Haven’t had it out since 2019. Have plans to start working on it soon and get it back into running condition. Once it’s back together I want to take it to Kevin Bryant to get the transom reinforced and the haul blue printed and pad widen and some gel coat redone. Besides Strokers I do like Allison’s and Gamblers. Bass Cats do make a nice boat though.

HP and speed are not linear. My 13' boat with a 28 will do 27.5 on a GPS. But to go 55 you need a 150 or a very fast 115. Why? If 28 pushes you 27.5, why do you have to go up 5x in horsepower to double speed? Because speed is a factor of hp and hull weight. Yea, you might go 100 in a boat with a smaller engine, but you're also pushing a much smaller boat. This hull weighs almost 3000lbs. That's more than most bass boats weigh with the trailer. The 400 goes 91, the 450 goes 94 and the 500 goes 103 or so. You lose efficiency with large hulls and large engines. 100hp increase to go 12mph faster? If I'd put 100 more hp on my little boat I'd go most likely 70mph faster if it didn't kill me. Smaller boat larger changes in speed with HP.

Im willing to bet almost no one who buys that boat has ever driven anything with more than half that horsepower and those speeds cause accidents that kill. Remember people boats don't have brakes

Performance wise, they are great. Design wise, not so much. Mercury has crammed so much stuff into such a small space under the cowlings of these engines that it has greatly reduced the reliability and serviceability of this V8 platform. I understand they want to make it sleek and compact, but they way over did it with this one. Cramming an engine like this into such a tightly confined space adds many additional points of failure that nobody who pays $70,000 for a single outboard engine should have to deal with.

That motor was designed by engineering to be 700hp. Early models were detuned. Every few years Merc bumps the power up. On Mercruiser side they have 1000+hp motors that come with a warranty. Merc has a great team of engineers!

@timswanson9893 It's called bean-counter engineering. Bean counters and marketing people deciding how an engine should be designed. They want it sleek and compact, not taking onto consideration the consequences that come with cramming a V8 powerhead into the tightest space possible. They don't care about these consequences. All they care about is marketing an engine to sell as many units as possible.

Sorry but those boats are not safe at those speeds, erratic handling with too much air under the bow. Notice they are always filmed on smooth water with no chop.

I’m sorry but just do not like them. Beautiful boats but sit awkwardly low in the stern and a lot of air under the bow. All videos I have seen are on glass smooth water conditions and just detect odd handling and ride quality. I admit could be wrong.
