Welcome to outdoor cycling, your life will never be the same. Starting saving your pennies, it's an addicting hobby but it will make you healthier than ever. Also do yourself a favour and book a bike fit, you won't regret it. Especially if you are going to be riding long distances.

Watching you ride around like a little kid who just got their training wheels off put such a smile on my face! My wife and I got bikes almost two years ago thinking we'd do a casual 10 mile ride along the river trail every 2-3 weeks. What happened, though, is I caught the cycling bug. I got a turbo trainer last year to get me through the winter, but it's just not the same. It can't match the sense of freedom or the sense of speed, and I find myself fixated on how much time I have left in my workout whereas my mind wanders endlessly on the road. Get a bike fit if you can afford it, but if not, watching some different pro bike fitter dos and don'ts videos and being in tune with how your body feels can go a long way.

😂😂😂. Great video! Glad to see your daughter out riding with you. Yes please get a helmet asap. Also two points for your next ride. 1. Use the big ring up front. You’re spinning out cuz you’re in the smaller gear up front for climbing. Whatever side you’re using to shift use the opposite hand break to shift into the bigger ring. 2. Lower your seat. You should be able to put the heel of either foot on the pedal and not feel over reached. Then adjust for comfort after that.

When you put the new pedals on be sure to put some grease on the axle thread , don't worry it won't make them unscrew. Adding grease stops them becoming permanently stuck to the crank. You may need to occasionally take them off and add extra grease if you get any annoying creaks.

How strange. Nearly exactly a year ago, I signed up to London2Brighton without ever owning a bike, a month later I ordered... Yes you guessed it, a Ribble Road Bike. I absolutely love it, have become obsessed with the sport, and spend pretty much all of my excess income on upgrades. Getting into cycling has quite literally changed my life (for the better), and my Ribble has been at the centre of that. Will be doing my first full distance Ironman this summer on the bike, and the bike is certainly standing up to the challenge. Enjoy it mate, welcome to the crazy, enjoyable, expensive, and exhilarating world of cycling 😊

You’ll love that bike, I have had a Ribble CGR for 5 years, with big tyres and disc brakes you’ll have a lot of fun, plus it’s comfortable. A couple things I’d advise buying, get a decent set of Allen keys, the Wera ones that can be found on Amazon will last years, I’d also get a torque wrench, it will help tighten bolts to the correct torque (tightness) so you ensure bolts are tight enough for safety so nothing slips, but you don’t risk damaging the frame, components or breaking a bolt. Once you start doing your own bike maintenance a little more you’ll get the feel, but get a torque wrench to start with

IMPORTANT: at 9:30 the part you weren’t sure the name of is the stem. When you spun it around and retightened everything what was the order? The stem cover should tightened first to compress the column(stem should be a bit loose at this point). Then tighten the bolts holding the stem to the steerer tube. If you do it in reverse, the stack may be loose and you could have a catastrophic failure at speed. Reach out if you have questions and be safe. And yes Ripple installed the stem oriented backwards (le sigh)

Hi Ryan - top video (I've only got as far as you turning the stem the right way round). If you don't want to go far for a bike fit then Cycle Evolution (Colchester) do them, and I think Schils (Marks Tey) do as well. Not sure what method Schils use. It can feel like a lot of money to spend but if you're doing the London-Brighton, and haven't been riding IRL for long I think it would be money well spent to avoid cycling destroying you again!

Great to see the fun interaction between you and your daughter. Enjoy! As a rider of all sorts of bikes over a lot of years I'd recommend staying away from any kind of clip in pedal. I don't believe there's any significant power gain and the comfort and convenience of a decent mtb flat pedal with an mtb shoe is worth having. After a lot of experimenting that's what I use on my gravel bike.

I also ride on Zwift, (I bought a Wahoo Kickr and really cheap road bike specifically for Zwift as a permanent indoor set-up), but I have never ridden outside before. Happy new bike day 🎉. Now that I’ve stopped shouting STEM at my phone, looking good just waiting for the fun and games with cleats. If and when you forget, panic and fall off with your foot stuck do try and fall towards the verge or pavement!!! I think with shimano you can adjust the tension so clipping in or out is easier, but whilst you are stationary leant up against a wall practice clipping in and out. It’s very unpleasant falling off cos of this so if doing some silly drills in your garage helps you avoid it then it’s worth it. Now that you have a bike, let the spending begin! Computer, bottles, cages, helmet, jacket the list goes on and on 🫣👍

Congrats on the bike! Perfect time to get one as well. Now get ready for a ton of accessories that you'll want to add. My biggest tip, get Garmin varia to pair with your bike head unit computer, it's a backlight with included radar that warms you of incoming cars behind you so you'll never have to look back again. But before the mass of upgrades, go out, enjoy yourself, and reap the joys of your hard work inside on the trainer!

What a fun video! I'd get rid of the stupid foot cages and use the flat pedals. They're not really benefiting you at all and create much more risk of falling over when starting and stopping. Eventually sure, get some cleats if you want. But there's really no rush, you could ride flat pedals for years if you want. Also if you get keen and go for a big ride thing about what's gonna happen if you get a flat. It is very likely to happen at some point, and walking 10 miles takes a bloody long time. A good bike shop will show you how to change a flat and sell you the equipment if you need, or just youtube research it I guess.

Whats your start time? I am at 6am would be great to get a pic with your at the start. Word of warning buy some flat pedals to start with and flat shoes until you get used to cleats and clipping in. The first 10 miles is stop start with all the traffic and lights you have to stop at and all the cyclist around you will do some strange things like stop in front of you for no reason and unclipping if it is not automatic by then you will be worrying about unclipping and will have to look down to clip back in which is hazardous to say the least with everyone around you. Flats are not a hinderance over cleats and its a fun day so stay safe my friend. If you are determined to go cleats then get the Look Keo EASY pedals and the grey cleats for your cycling shoes. These are super easy to get out of with a twist of your dominant foot. Great for beginners and learning. Fit the cleats all the way back and all the way to the inside of the shoe to give you a wider more stable position and dont forget to grease the cleat screws threads into the shoes. Best of luck. its a great day. Invest in a seat cover if you suffer after an hour in the saddle. Much easier then indoors though.

Excellent Ryan, good choice. I have two Ribbles, the Audax and the SLe, both brilliant bikes. Knowing you I suspect you'll want to do your own bike maintainance, so I would get a few basic tools such as an allen key and tyre clinchers and a pump plus some inner tubes. I would also recommend borrowing a torque wrench to check everything is set to correct tightness. It's the best feeling in the world to ride the new bike for the first time!....Enjoy!!!!

Nice bike, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A few pointers for you. I strongly recommend getting a bike fit. Riding for 1 or 2 hours you don't notice small imperfection but if your riding for 4hrs+ the small niggles become big niggles. Good cycling shorts are a must as is having the right saddle for you. Cleats. You WILL fall over at some point. Loosen the tension on the pedals to start with. You can always tighten them up once your used to them. Get in the habit of flicking your ankle out of the bindings whenever you are about to stop. Finally, this is where you realise Zwift has been lying to you. At 15st you can not ride up a 10% climb doing 200w. You need to do 350w just to keep moving. 😂😂

Great choice of bike! I have the same one except the shimano 105 groupset and have also recently taken delivery of the electric version to help me with the horrendous hills we have around here. Looking foward to seeing some outdoor riding vidoes!

@@RyanCondon I did a 60 mile off road/gravel sportive a few weeks back on my cgr with 5000ft of climbing and the only weak point was my legs and cardio! The bike handled it like a champ. I must admit, the CGR AL-E I've just bought has really changed the game for me though. The motor just helps take the bite out of the big hills and allows you to ride much further than you otherwise would.

Great purchase. You did make me giggle with the mechanical deliberations. You’ll get there. Much better these days with KZfaq to answer any questions. My only comment is make sure the compression cap is sufficiently torqued (with the stem fully undone) so the headset doesn’t rattle/rock if you apply the brakes and rock the bike back and forth… but not too torqued that you cannot turn the bars. Then do up stem bolts. Maybe search for “safety check bolts road cycle” Looking good though! Enjoy it!!

Those cage pedals are worse than cleats, impossible to get your feet in 😂 I had the same and quickly swapped to SPD when I got my first bike in 20 years last year! Great video 👍🏼 What time do you start L2B? Want to know if I’ll see you along route at some point 😅👌🏼

Seat is a bit too high. when the peddle is at the bottom your foot should be flat on the peddle with a slight bend at the knee, that's not a bad start. Get spd peddles, the cheap shimano ones are the go to, I have a £5000 titanium bike so I'm not BS'ing you I've been a rider for 45 years. Cycling gloves are good. That is a great bike. It doesn't matter but I own a Ribble endurance TI Ultegra. Be proud to own it that bike rocks mate.

@@RyanCondon Either way. That's quite an aggressive saddle height there Ryan. I know you're almost Cat C now, but still. A bit more like your Watt bike set up to start with otherwise you'll pay for it! Enjoy. Nice it's arrival coincides with some much longed for weather.

Can I just share some advice on pedals if you ever by the ones that you need to clip Into. Get Shimano. There’s 3 tiers. 105(average), Ultegra(middle) and Dura Ace(pro). I got Keo peddles when I first hit the road and they destroyed my feet. The Keo peddles didn’t support the sole of my feet correctly and were giving me insane nerve pain(burning sensation). As soon as I got the Ultegra Shimano peddles I’ve not had a problem since. I’m 6ft, 14 stone and size 10 shoe which is similar to you. Great choice to use your current peddles that just support your shoes.

Also go a size higher when you buy cycling shoes. I’m a size 10 and I get a size 11. I’ve got DMT shoes. Super light and made from soft materials.
