It looks very good to me - I like the red colour they've integrated into the bridge and it blends with the ancient ruins well.

Much nicer than the bridge over the Gorge of Eternal Peril. And you didn't have to know the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow in order to pass over.

Hi all! As one of the labourers that worked on this project with American Bridge, myself and the lads are happy to see so many people appreciating the engineering and work that went behind it all. To explain the gap... The bridge needs that space in the middle for expansion and contraction. Changes in the weather and climate such as temperature and humidity cause the bridge to move, therefore it has space in the middle and has pistons on both sides to hold it together.

As a rule I do not like ancient sites to be changed to play to tourism, but if you had to have a modern bridge I think they have done a Wonderful job here, great design which seems to merge in well. Thank you both for another Wonderful Walk.

The times we have visited this place, only i have been able to climb the steep steps, my wife has been unable to and this has distracted from the visit, but now seeing this bridge and what its opened up for us, i cant wait to see it .Its a yes from us and many thanks for making this film. I am looking forward to seeing the bridge and can see it has got good and bad points. I think it’s great that everyone is now able to get to the island to appreciate the history of the castle and take in the breath taking views. 😁

Went not long ago and although it is so much easier than taking all the steps before I dont much like the gap inbetween and the wobble 🙈😂😂

I watched this tinged with a bit of sadness, as we didn't get to Cornwall this week after all...illness & had to cancel:-((( Tintagel is such a special place. Too many people for me though on the day you went. It loses its mystery & magic somehow with all the crowds. I think the bridge was an inspired idea for the area though. And sympathetically done with slate flooring & a gap too for a bit of adventure! Thank you for filming it...it cheered me up. Tintagel is at its best with no-one much around. We sneaked up there one wild windy evening many years ago, raining, wind howling & not a soul in sight. Atmospheric & haunting. J x

An informative and well balanced video as always, at the 3.20 minute mark it was lovely to see Victor Meldrew out and about again.

Much better access for the less able, last went to the castle in the 60s might go next summer. Looks better than the huge intrusive monstrosity of a hotel on the cliff top opposite.

I think they would have got more tourists is the bridge was made of ropes and planks and creaked when walked over . would have looked cool too .

Visited August 2019 first time my special needs son could explore tintagel properly could never manage all those steps before then land rover back up to village it was great

I don't mind the mixture of ancient and modern and I think the two compliment each other here. I like the materials used, particularly the ingenious use of the slates on edge for the deck surface. Very practical as it will never get slippery, even in winter. However, as a retired bridge engineer I do find the very slender design a bit disconcerting. The fact that it noticeably sways in the wind is something most people will not like. Let's hope it doesn't prove to be a problem in stronger winds.

I’ve just subscribed, we just came back from Cornwall we absolutely love it , it’s been almost 5 years since there last, after a accident has left my husband in wheelchair, it was finding accessible places to visit , we spent time down st ives Falmouth different places towards that way. We absolutely loved lands end it was awesome for our dogs as well. Definitely check out the bridge looks amazing It’s great you show us where it is accessible for us. ,thank you guys ❤️❤️

Thanks for sharing this with us. I like the idea of the bridge. When we visited a couple years ago I had to skip the hike up. Normally I'm not a bridge fan but I think I would brave that one. I'm so glad Andrew was able to enjoy it. tfs

Just got back from tintagel the bridge is amazing and I think it fits in just fine, it was a one way system when we went due to the dreaded covid , but it actually made it much better to get around hope they keep it, I really love this place

I loved it. As an older generation it makes it more accessible to us and I think that they have done a really sympathetic design......I thought the statute of King Arthur was Darth Vader ha ha!! I love Tintagel and have been there many many times. It's such a special place. I remember the day they opened the bridge, and have yet to walk over it. I think it is quite fitting that the floor of the bridge is made up of Cornish slate tiles upended. I think they used 40,000 of them. The gap will allow for expansion or contraction during hot and cold weather. I think the bridge fits in very well with it's surroundings. I like the King Arthur statue too. I think £13 each is a bit of a rip off online. How much is it downstairs on the day. ? For a family of 4 that's 60 quid! I know they have to maintain the place, but even still it's dear. I love your commentary Sarah, and all of your other videos. Nice camerawork Andrew. I wish the video had been twice as long filming all of the ruins. Great job!! xxxx

We had planned in going to Tintagel when we were in Cornwall but because of how far you have to walk to get to it that put us off as my Dad is not able to walk very far We were also not sure how easy it would be to get to the bridge once we got there Maybe another time Definately plan on returning to see more of Cornwall

Loved it ,but I would not look down the crack.

I love it and loathe it at the same time. It's sympathetic to it's environment. But let's face it, it is an intrusion. I visited Tintagel a few years back and would have loved to go over but my fitness wasn't up to it. I'm even less fit now and the bridge would make it possible to get over, but not much further. If I'm down that way I'd definitely visit, but just to see the bridge.

Looks impressive and it is surely a good help to get more people to see the site 😊. We arrived at Tintagel in July 2017, soaked wet through rain and fog, and walked further on to Port Isaac the next day. We were sorry we hadn't been able to take an extra day there to explore the castle and its surroundings. But we had a tight time schedule. If the bridge had been there we would probably have had the time to do it before heading off to Port Isaac.

Very interesting video, I've not been to Tintagel for a few years and I'm not keen on the over-touristy nature of the town and castle. Having said that, I think the bridge is attractive in itself, and if it improves access for less agile people to visit this fantastic site, then that's good. Give me a wild unspoilt headland any day though! Thanks for the video.

It's definitely a good idea easier access, I Kinda liked the old route tho, felt like or adventure like I was Part of the famous 5 or something 😂i assume you can still use the old route. We're going in September hopefully, mum will be pleased to hear about this no doubt 😀

To be honest, I like it but I can see why it may not be everyone's cup of tea and I know Mrs Metalman would hate that gap in the middle, especially when it started to sway lol. A place I have always wanted to visit but would hate all the crowds and why so busy indeed? Such a grey, busty day, I would have assumed it would have been very quiet, God knows what it is like there in mid summer, either ways its a win for me, cheers Alan

AMAZING !! Again a really good video. I like the slate on the ground - but because I am not so good with heights I wouldn't like the gab and definitely not the wind !! But I MUST visit the bridge and Tintagel.( 😊 there are a lot of books 🤗) In our times it is difficult to decide wether a place should be accessible to tourists or not. But I definitely would love to see it - especially the silhouette of King Arthur❣ You showed an amazing landscape and sorrounding. Do you have any idea how high the bridge is? The only source I could find said 170 centimeters, which would be off by several orders of magnitude.

Very good video. Thank you for showing. But: I don`t like the bridge. Last year I visited Tintagel and I was fascinated. After watching your video I think that modern architecture destroys the atmosphere of the place.

The bridge (as a bridge) is fine, but I really wish they'd made it look a bit more 'rustic' looking, or at least incorporated some Arthurian symbology into the design. The delicate metalwork for the railings is jarring.

Me be here now. Bridge looks great doesn't it. What I don't like is Tintagel distorting history with its claims to King Arthur just to bring tourists in.

Sorry but Tintagel has nothing to do with Arthur at all, just a mention in a piece of fiction by Geoffrey of Monmouth. King Arthur was Welsh, also known and named as King Arthrwys and King Arthur in the Charters of Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff. He was named due to land gifts to the Church by his family. Arthur, his father Meurig and his grandfather Tewdric were all Kings of Gwent in South Wales. Just google Pro Anima Artorius to see relics dug up in a church linked to his family in South Wales. They included an electrum sixth century cross bearing his name and his headstone on which he is named Rex...or King alongside his fathers name. Sorry Tintagel, but facts are facts. The English should really stop trying to steal the history of their Welsh neighbours. He was only turned into a legend or myth because the English did not want the ancient Brits, ie the Welsh, remembering their real heroes.

That bridge is a TRAVESTY. It completely ruins the essence of the castle. I am glad I got to see the beautiful castle ruins before this monstrosity was built. It ruins the entire view. Who ever came up with the idea of a modern bridge connected to a historic site dating back hundreds of years ? It's horrible in so many ways! Shame on the people responsible for this! Is nothing sacred anymore??
