New Buccaneer 36 hour tuna trip Galveston

This was a 36 hour 360 tuna trip that I set up with the New Buccaneer out of Galveston, TX. The tuna bite was off this trip (it happens) but the bottom fishing was on fire. We caught a ton of fish (literally) and everyone had a great time, special thanks to Captain Matt and Ed (owner) for making it happen! Also special thanks to Fast Fight Tackle, Striker Tackle and Deadhead Lures!

So where people sleep, is also the dining room and living room and bedroom? So best to bring ear plugs and eye masks? Is there a chef on board or do you just bring ready to eat food?

There is one big room so yes it’s pretty chaotic at times. Most people sleep when the boat is running so bring anything to help you sleep and seasickness patches! They have a galley on board so I always buy food there, it’s grill food but I like it. You can bring your own food in a soft side cooler.

Yes they run snapper trips when red snapper season is open. Once snapper season ends, they run the tuna trips. You cannot catch red snapper during the tuna trips, but you can catch vermilion snapper (bee-liners) and grouper and plenty of other species of fish on the way out. Captain Matt and crew are awesome and work really hard to put you on fish and keep you fishing!

Jason Stokley yes she does! She is an awesome cook and it’s really nice of her to spend all that time on the boat feeding the crew and the fishermen and women!

I think Boomvang is the closest rig from Galveston. Gunnison may be closer from Port Aransas.

is that the boats rod and reel setup? if you they need to fix that reel seat. the reel looks loose.

It was one that I used for grouper since I didn’t own a conventional at the time. I prefer spinning combos. I didn’t even notice it being loose but only used it for 1-2 drops, the AJ were too thick so I switched to chasing vermillion...

Lacey Pearce none! Those are not for trash, they are used to slide out the fish from the ice chest to the customers. They are all passed out and taken home to be eaten!

Hi, My wife and I are planning a mid-February tuna safari. What is the weather like in the gulf at that time? What clothing do you recommend?

Brian Vamvakias unfortunately the Texas winter is super unpredictable so be prepared for the worst but hopefully you will get the best. For winter weather I recommend waterproof jackets and several layers of clothes (long underwear and several fleece, hoodies, etc to wear under your jacket). I would probably wear fishing waders and a waterproof jacket personally. I would also recommend rubber boots because if your feet get wet and cold that’s miserable...

Planning to take a trip with my fishing buddies. We did inshore, freshwater, haven't done offshore yet. What rod and reel outfit is recommended for this boat? I want to buy 1 or 2 set up...on a blue collar working man budget. Thx

I posted this thread to help out new people (I am Scubaarchery on this site). www.360tuna.com/threads/beginners-guide-to-gom-partyboat-fishing-for-tuna.49616/ I would get a tiger lite 7’ heavy action conventional rod with a Diawa saltist or Avet conventional reel and spool it with 65 lb indicator braid and a Spheros 10k reel with 65lb braid for popping. A Penn Carnage 2 would work for popping or swimbaits. You need 300 yards of line capacity so make sure you get a reel big enough to hold the line but not too big to use for jigging...

@@elimartinez665 you need a reel that has at least 300yds of 50lb braid and can apply at least 15lb of drag just in case you hook a 100lb + Bigeye or yellowfin deep. I think a Penn 4/0 could do that...

Nice trip i saw you had a fighting belt and I be heading out there on same boat soon I wondering would you recomend a belt for fighting yellowfin with spinning?

John Shin I agree but I am so glad the New Buccaneer made the investments to make these tuna trips better. They extended the range, added benches and bunks etc.

Still love fishing out of port aransas more off the scat cat ever since they took the Big E down to Louisiana, then to Cali and basically retired that boat for like half a decade....tragedy

John, I would definitely check them out. They may run a spring and fall 56 hour trip as well. That is as close to the Big E as you can get. They catch fish, have been catching 50+ YFT and Matt does everything he can to find them! Port A is too far for me, I am already 4 hours from Galveston...

John Shin, I am happy to inform you that times have changed! New Buccaneer now fishes Magnolia, Auger, Perdido and now even Lucious! Matt added the extra fuel capacity. The challenge is that it’s a one and done, if he makes the run out there and there are no tune, there is no way he can hit another rig that night so he has to have good intel and weather to run that far... I assume you are a 360tuna.com member so check out the posts there. I am Scubaarchery on that website!

VADER4762 the boat poles are sufficient for catching bottom fish and for jigging or chunking for tuna. If you want to pop, you need your own gear and if you want to speed jig with a spinning rod or deep drop you need your own gear. VADER4762 if you want to jig with the boat poles or chunk (freeline bait) with the boat poles, you can do that. If you want to throw poppers or swimbaits you cannot use their poles for that and have to bring your own. I like to jig with spinning gear vs. conventional so have to bring that too...

I believe the 30 hour trips are $370 now but they sell out super fast…
