I find these work better with the tee height not as high , higher than a 3 wood but not half the ball above and I think thats why guys who struggle with driver like these mini drivers because they are hit more like a 3 wood but with better results.

I bought the new Taylormade BRNR in 13.5 degrees a few weeks ago. I love it. I only loose about 10-12 yards and hit significantly more fairways. I haven’t tried it in a lower loft setting yet. I’m one of those people that struggled with driver, and this is making a big change in my game.

Ohh a Micheal Newton Head to Head : ) I just bought a Red/Black 1.5 Callaway Big Bertha Mini Driver 14 deg so set -1 on Draw Swing weight D2, £50 in mint condition, fitted a XS 43.5" shaft £50 , 230-240 yard carry at 105 MPH, so pleased. You are aware people will still watch this video in years as people buy these 2nd hand and need guidance on which club. I do. 👍

Thanks for making this video! I do like the idea of a mini driver but they're tough to find to compare. I'd say in my game, "struggling to control driver" is an understatement. Between these two, I like the idea of having the face a little closed on the Taylormade because my miss is (far) right, but I suspect the slightly larger head of the Calloway might offer a bit more forgiveness off the tee. I actually hit my fairway woods pretty well, so don't need to replace them or hit a mini driver off the deck, so suspect the Callaway in 11.5 (or even lower) used as driver replacement might be a better fit for me, though I wouldn't buy without hitting it because at the lower loft, I'm not sure how much easier it'll be to find fairway than with a typical driver.

I just had my new Cleveland driver shortened by 1.5 inches. They have a long shaft to start with and I'm only 5'9" tall so shaft length is important. It has made the driver much more controlable and accurate, but I may get a further half inch off. Definitely all about ease of use but getting the distance I want. Good review, but as you say, they are extremely difficult to get hold of. Thanks.

I play with the older Taylormade 300 mini, and I will say it is my most consistent club in the bag. My 16° hybrid can carry 240-250 yards, so I don't really have much use for a smaller 3-wood, might as well beef it up to the mini-driver instead

I had the BRNR until it was stolen on a golf trip. But when I had it I loved it, at most courses it replaced my driver as my go to club off the tee. I find the smaller heads my easier to square up and work the ball around the course. The shorter shaft probably helps to contribute to the workability too.

I was hoping you would be testing both of these head to head! I have the BRNR Copper Mini driver at 13.5 and I echo what you are saying about the feel and sound. I don't have a use for a 3 wood much of the deck, so that slot is for a fairway finder that is longer than my 2 iron. I swap between the Smoke AI Max 3 wood and the BRNR mini depending on the course and conditions that day, both are great.

The old Callaway mini was the big bertha 1.5 mini. I have the 11.5 degree 2023 brnr and it feels incredible. I wanted it because i just feel like im miles away from the ball with a driver shaft. Can confirm that it feels incredible to hit. I still get plenty of height on the 11.5. I havent really messed with turning it down or anything. Its a little tough off the deck, but not awful. I have a 4 wood really for that that has a very shallow face so it's definitely more appealing off the deck. The category is a really nice option for a lot of golfers.

When I pure it, it goes just as far and straight as my old Cleveland Launcher driver, but the miss hits I have with it really aren't worth it for a supposed "Fairway finder" Ive read use a lower tee and hit down on it more, but that doesn't seem to help much either.

I have had the 300 Mini for a couple of years. While it helped my accuracy and only lost a few yards when I was going through a poor patch, I find a shortened 460cc driver (with adjusted heavier headweight) is the better overall option... provided I'm able to maintain an upward attack angle. I struggle sometimes to do this, which is when the mini shines.

Lost my driver confidence over the past couple of months so finally took the driver out and kept the BRNR 11.5 degree in as driver alternative. I put the heavy weight to the front and this thing is a rocket - not missing much on the driver but this keeps me more on the short grass.

I loved my Driver but only when I hit it well which was 50/50. 45.75” shaft. Been playing the Callaway Mini at 44.25” off tee only and it is so much more accurate with very similar distance. Much longer than my 4 wood. It doesn’t look friendly off the deck so haven’t tried except at range and it goes low and left. The TaylorMade is a little easier off the deck but still not easy. Off the tee Callaway is clear winner for me. The Denali stock shaft is good, the TM would need an upgrade from stock. Have them both will be selling the TM. Keeping fairway wood ditching driver and adding 60 wedge. If I want to have Mini and Driver I pull the 60 and have 56 highest. Works for me.

@jporter504
@jporter504 Ай бұрын
You once advocated for a shorter shaft length driver. Something less than or equal to 45 inches. Sure, you lose a little clubhead speed but you correctly mentioned that most golfers will find it easier to hit the sweet spot on the club face and end up with longer and straighter drives. That was back when driver lengths were approaching 45.5 inches. Now they are often 45.75 inches. I took the advice and cut my driver down to 44.25 inches. Had to add a heavier weight to increase swing weight. It works. I still think that most golfers would see better results using the bigger and more forgiving driver head with a slightly shorter shaft rather than a mini driver (off the tee a least).

How tall r u? I do want to cut my driver shaft length too. Its stock atm so im assuming 4.5-4.75. I choke down an inch or even more. Makes me feel more confident. @ohkayw
@ohkayw Ай бұрын
@@JDSFLA for most amateurs, hitting the sweet spot and good swing is much more efficient. We wont be able to take asvantage of that little extra length to convert to speed because of inconsistency. Sometimes my 152 ball speed shot goes further than my 160 ball speed shot because of better numbers (launch angle, spin etc)

I am interested in the Callaway mini driver. My driver swing speed averages 94-96 mph. I can carry 220-225 and roll out 10-15 yards, depending. You were swinging roughly 106-108 and carrying 260'ish. If I can only carry the mini 210, then it does not seem worth it. One of the reasons for buying a mini driver is, I think, the fact that your quality of contact will increase and this will lead to equal or greater distance and more accuracy when compared to standard length driver that misses the sweet spot a bit too often. Thoughts? Great video. Thank you.

Definitely play a shorter shaft than the norm these days. I'm 6'-2" and play a 44-3/4" to the end of the grip which is a44-1/2" shaft. 45 years ago 44" was the normal started length men's driver. Usually going short in length you will step up in shaft weight to help get the swing weight back up but you will hit it farther and straighter by hitting the middle of the face more often with a shorter driver than with a longer driver and hitting it all over the face. Just a no brainer.

I think the key is the shorter shaft and not the smaller head. I'd venture a guess that if people used shorter driver shafts they would hit far more fairways. There is a reason nearly all tour pros use shorter driver shaft than what is sold on the shelves at your local golf shop.

The piece to the smaller head is that it’s easier to turn over. Most chronic slicers leave the face open so that could be a contributing factor.

So I can tell you who the winner is, the BRNR! Why? Because Callaway doesn't make their mini in left-handed, which is ridiculous in this day and age. As a leftie, It's been nice to see nearly all left-hand golf clubs available to us. With a brand such as Takomo, they don't have some of their clubs in left hand which is annoying but understandable, this is Callaway, who probably had one of the best-selling drivers this year in the AI Smoke in the world.....and is one of the biggest brands in the world.
