At my 6-week, post c-section appointment, I thought I was brave for telling my nurse practitioner I thought I had postpartum depression. She replied sharply, “Sounds like you need to get a maid.” I was shocked, and too embarrassed to tell her I didn’t have the money for a maid. Later, she tried selling me vitamins.

I was (finally) diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and had a similar experience of doctors not taking me seriously and telling me I need to lose weight. Make sure you are being kind to yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

loving all the boldness! going back to the doc after that terrible experience, trying a new color with your hair, getting dressed and treating yourself after so much loss. it’s just nice to see you taking care of yourself 💗 we all need a little more of that. I’ve been avoiding some doctors, too, bc I moved to a different state and have had two separate major health issues come up since that are so consuming of my time that I’ve ignored annual things like OBGYN + eye doctor visits. but this genuinely motivated me to finally rip off the bandaid and just get it done.

Please know that you've given me comfort in a weird way. I keep thinking to myself, "if Carrie can get through this, so can I." So thank you for sharing.

I feel like most AFAB people have a story of where they didn't feel heard or were demeaned by doctors, it's truly devestating when it happens. I dealt with a similar issue with my doctor. Where I live you are basically stuck with whatever doctor you have because it is so difficult to find one. Mine wouldn’t listen to me when I mentioned all my period issues and just recommended that I go on birth control. After getting shut down so many times I caved and went on birth control which was just a bandaid to the actual problem. That doctor retired and her replacement during my first appointment was like why did you go on birth control without getting your hormone levels tested! It is such a relief to have someone who actually listen to you. Happy you had a good experience Also, love the red pop of colour outfit and feel the need to recreate it. And the copper colour is 10/10!

My doctor told me that if you have three symptoms of pcos you qualify for diagnosis, and that’s how I got diagnosed. Didn’t realize they could figure it out from a blood draw!

Literally the same answer from my doctors about the same thing. I have all the symptoms of PCOS but I had a male doctor say “well even if it is, it won’t change anything” 😮

AHHHHH!!!! I get so excited for anyone who does copper or the new trend cowboy copper because it looks so beautiful on everyone. I just have to live vicariously through you guys because my hair is so dark and i cant afford to go to a salon right now and i'm too scared to bleach my hair at home lol

that breaks my heart. As someone with PCOS and PMDD I was lucky that my doctor was sympathetic and believed me, did the tests and I've been treated for both.

So unbelievably happy you had a better experience at your OBGYN appt!!!!! My gyno seemed wonderful and then at the very end of the appt she drilled me about my weight. This was years ago. I have another appt with her in Nov. Just sucks how there’s definitely a way to talk about weight in a healthy way, but doctors tend to blame EVERYTHING on it. PCOS girlies gotta stick together!!! Also LOVE THE HAIR!!!!!!

my friend saw a gyno recently who was a woman who completely brushed her off... so frustrating! im glad this experience was better. fingers crossed for continued better treatment and care!!

I have PCOS as well and have had the worst experiences with doctors and Tia was AMAZING for me. I felt actually listened to and other than when they asked if I knew my weight/would want to be weighed (to which I said no) weight was never brought into the conversation. I moved to Seattle recently and they don’t have an office here which makes me so sad 😭

I had a similar experience with a general physician who I had gone to for a dust allergy problem and before he put me on a bunch of meds he kept weighing me at every appointment which was totally unnecessary. And every appointment he kept commenting on my weight. Finally I just stopped going to him and the meds did their job

As a person who was 285lbs, 115 pounds, and now 180 pounds I will not get on a scale at the Dr's office . I weigh myself on my home scale ONLY. ( SAME SCALE MATTERS) AS a person who has been plus size most of my life , EVERYTHING gets blamed on your weight and once you are OBESSE on your medical records , they'll never remove it ." Because you can still have issues " due to your larger size . I was 115 pounds and my record said obesse.!! I've spoken at conferences about weight bias. It's real and it's very harmful and abusive. I'm so glad you found a better office . This Capricorn understands lol

I’ve loved my experience at Tia! I put off a ton of important medical stuff from health anxiety and I explained that to them before my first visit and they were beyond kind with my treatment and appointments. I hope you continue to feel safe and get some good answers regarding: your health

Have you tried the Silk unsweetened cashew milk (for smoothies, cereal, shakes, coffee drinks etc.) instead of almond milk? It does have a little almond milk in it, but it's much creamier and less chalky than almond milk ... it has a better texture - not so "thin." I love it .... and, not that you care, but it only has 25 calories per cup. BTW ... I have NO idea how you keep your nail polish so long!!!! Mine starts chipping and coming off the second day --- I must be very hard on them. I can keep a pedicure for MONTHS, but my fingernails won't hold polish for any length of time. I'm so envious!

I started seeing a GYN who has helped me and like you said, it's so important to keep advocating for ourselves and seeking answers.

I’m currently inhabiting a smaller body after doing weight loss surgery but I still hold so much anxiety and sadness at the treatment I received, both in society and in medical contexts. For the most part I was treated with kindness and compassion, but if I went to the emergency room or saw a doctor who wasn’t my usual practitioner, they would ask why I’m fat??

This happened to me at my old gynecologist too. My dad had passed a few months prior to my appointment, I went in and she said “why is your weight up?” I was like uh well my dad died? She was like oh ok that’s a good reason. Like what? Sad thing is I went to her for the next few years because as a women it was more stress inducing to try to find someone else. Every appointment she would grill me about my weight. 😅

PCOS can cause weight gain and telling someone to lose weight is not helpful 😭 I have PCOS and totally get how that feels. I have been told this many times, and it is always not fun.

I had a horrible docter after being dicharged from the hospital with covid,dismiss my concerns about my hair nails and skin falling off and i vould not feel my legs.he told me treat 1 thing at a time.anyways this retired nutritionist told me the holy spirt led him to me and told me ur missing iron.thats why you cant breath and cant heal.and explains all my other symptoms. Well it ended up being true.
