'New criminal laws encompass substantive crime, procedure and evidence': CJI DY Chandrachud

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud at CBI Raising Day on 31 March, said, 'the new criminal laws recently enacted by Parliament encompass substantive crime, procedure and evidence. These laws aim at digitising various aspects of criminal procedure. This is a significant step towards modernising the justice system. From the initial registration of a First Information Report (FIR) to the final delivery of judgment, every stage of a criminal investigation is slated to be recorded digitally under the purview of the proposed legislation. This comprehensive approach ensures a seamless flow of information and is intended to facilitate better coordination and collaboration among stakeholders involved in the investigative and adjudicatory processes.'

The CRPC was enacted in 1973 and you call it British Law. Moreover, the new criminal laws are just copy paste of old law. Just go through it once and you'll realize that 98% of new Evidence Act is the verbatim of the old one. There are so many procedural flaws in the new criminal laws which will inadvertently increase the pendancy in the lower courts. I'm not against change, however it's unfair to fool people under the garb of change by simply changing the name without even actually reforming the system. Ps- I'm a lawyer myself.

@@DevD-hk2vfI believe it's time to update our Constitution since many of our laws simply mimic the "Government of India Act, 1935". We should shape our Constitution to reflect our own values, prioritizing those rooted in our indic heritage, rather than blindly following Western ideals.

Sir Kindly ensure following points in judiciary 1. Eradicate Judicial Favourism for what soever reason. 2. Zero tolerance to corruption 3. Use AI to read and understand the complete pleadings of a case where no much scope for further arguments and wasting court time & resources. Dispose the cases promptly on merits, on the basis of established law, legal precedent, and consider the fact, circustances including techcal points if any.
