Agreed. Makes more since if you consider that TSR owned D&D at first. Magic has always been "D&D on cards" though. It was meant to be for gamers that had dead/separated characters in their D&D game, for the in between and/or downtime. Look it up, don't take my word for it. Turns out the cards are a bit more transportable than the D&D books, dice etc.
@gamemasteranthony2756

...and Dragon Magazine beat them to it as well. They had two issues: One where they converted cards to 2e D&D and another which turned characters/spells/monsters to cards.

As a 23 year veteran of MTG and only a 2.5 reader d&d player, I think this is my favorite book so far. I think they did a fantastic job marrying mtg influence with d&d, and in creating a world that jumps off the page. I think there's a few neat things to take into your FR or homebrew worlds, and the guilds' flavors can all be used for whatever guild or organization you have, even if you don't use the magic spells and items associated with it. I'm excited to run a campaign in Ravnica, though. I'll have my mtg cards (or better yet, a card catalog site like Gatherer or Scryfall where I can search for cards or filter them to show only Ravnica cards) as inspiration or aesthetics, and be more able to draw upon my knowledge of the plane from mtg than I could for any official setting in d&d that I'm not nearly as familiar with!

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but the art in the physical Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica book actually does have artist attributions within, they're just hard to find. First, flip to any art in the book and look near the bottom of the pages close to the binding. On one of the pages printed vertically in light font will be the names of the artists featured on those two pages. For example, page 154 lists "DYSON LOGOS, SIMON DOMINIC" who created the art for the Vernadi Center map and the Impervious Greatwurm respectively.

my Loxodon homebrew the Loxodon's Trunk can be used to: • make the Somatic component of Cantrips; • wield Dex weapons (yes, you can Dual Weapon + Shield); • use Sleight of Hand for things that use 2 fingers only or write & paint; • give Advantage on grapple attacks rolls.
@Matthias-pj6th
@Matthias-pj6th 5 жыл бұрын
On Luxodon's I wouldn't say the trunk isn't useful, it should be noted that you can take a page from real life and still pick pockets with it (Seriously though, those trunks are surprisingly dexterous and pachyderms are sneaky buggers), you can also use it to hold various objects but you can't wield them. As for the Guilds, they exist in layers, For example while the Izzet are well known mad scientist Sorcerers and Wizards most their members are the utility workers of Ravnica, Plumbers, Electricians, that type of thing. The Simic are mad biologist Druids, but their run of the mill members are actually Ravnica's (non-magical) doctors and pharmacists. The Rakdos are a death cult with a circus motif, but many of them are more standard entertainers who only pay lipservice to the Cult's faith, also most Innkeepers, Chefs, Barkeeps, and Nightclub owners on Ravnica are members. The Dimir are spies, but most courier services and libraries are Dimir owned and run (After all, if you can gather information in completely legal ways, why not? Also there is no harm in sharing any information that isn't of value in the massive inter-guild conflicts) The Golgari are a religion all about the cycle of life and death and how they feed into each other (Circle of Spores Druids and Necromancer make up the majority of their combatants) but they are also the breadbasket of the City-Plane with most farmers being members of the Swarm, also Soup Kitchens and Homeless Shelters tend to be organised and run by the Golgari. And that's just a few examples

@@PantheraLeoKing the current planeswalkers cannot but Cairne when he was an oldschool one transported every single living thing from other planes to mirrodin and populated the entire world. Kor on dominara come from Zendikar. So old planeswalkers from pre planar chaos could transport them. IT was just a non universe breaking way to add any species to ravnica if you want something not present in the world. Ravnica does not have dragon born naturally but you can add the and say one of the old planeswalkers brought a population to ravnica a thousand years ago and now theirs 20'000 of the species on the planet of ravnica so they can be playable. Im not saying have players become a planewalkers and transport new species during the game but just ways to add a couple of the magic races from other planes or the races from dnd exclusive planes.

The way I'm going about ravnica is go through copy all important things about each guild down in it's own section so dimir has it's own paper same with boros and do that with all of them then have a talk with the player about the guilds and answer and questions as a recruiter for the guild would answer then let the players choose to pick one of the ten guilds or be guildless. Then check which guilds they have and build a campaign around that. NOTE It states that conflicts can arise between players. They will and that is supposed to simulate the chaos of the guilds rule over ravnica. I suggest explaining it to the players before they ever choose a guild. I believe I can create a greater campaign with this

Now that I've had my physical copy for a few weeks, I'm really entertaining ideas of crossing over things further, since minotaurs and centaurs are finally available in print and binding, and some of the new subclasses and monsters are quite enticing as well. The fact all 10 guilds have Paruns with stats really pleases me as a DM, like with Boborygmos as the cyclops leader of the Burning Tree clan among the Gruul tribes and Rakdos as the supreme demon lord of his own cult. I really want to test the waters with a Gruul Minotaur Eldritch Knight who defected from the Boros legion, enticed by the primal magics of the old ways and motivated by notions of glory unchained. Alternatively, I also have the desire to play a Golgari Human Arcane Trickster due to the expanded spell list and urchin background flavor and features.

I want to run a west marches campaign where you start out as guildless and can take jobs from each of the guilds. You build up loyalty t othe guilds over time and eventually join one

When this supplement was first mooted some months ago, my reaction was, "Wait, that card game I never got into has a _setting?"_ But it seems pretty cool.

Yep. A great many settings, in fact, since it takes place within a multiverse. They were also doing novels since the beginning. Every block of cards that comes out all take place on some plane of existence. There are characters and stories, and cards that tie in to those. Additionally, over the past few years they've really ramped up their world building and story integration. There's a new chapter in the ongoing story every week put up for free the official Magic website.
