The Horn of Africa nation, with a population of over 17 million is the 8th member of the EAC. The country has the longest coastline in mainland Africa and its entrepreneurs are spread across the region.

It’s Somali’s benefit to join with those brothers and sisters who have stronger economic and education. We will learn from them. Kenyan and Ugandan educators, engineers, service sector, and security services are already in Somalia 🇸🇴.

They don't have better education, Somalis have education but those educated mostly are out of the country

Those who are outside of the country don't count because they are either old or they were born outside the country, and they don't have any connection to the country. 95%, they are not coming back to Somalia.

This helps to stop thinking of Somalia as those other Africans when the truth is that the citizens of Somalia have been doing business all along in the region. Coordination as one economy with other EAC citizens is what is changing instead of everybody doing business uncoordinated. Coordinating economics and security with their brothers in Africa and stop looking toward those outside Africa which a big part of their current problems. Joining the EAC is part of African solutions coming from Africa itself. It's stupid to say Somalia is not ready to join EAC until the US, Europe, UN blue helmets (told to leave DRC for a reason) solve their problems. That's the real problem. Joining the EAC **is** the right path.

Personally I do not share this enthusiasm.. EAC low expectations from its members alone tells you this is doomed to fail also their eagness to expand before any tangible accomplishment for its core members.

Joint regional investment on oil and gas infrastructure will reduce our independence on middle east. Built roads, rails, communication industry, refineries and service industry will boost capital and spur development of other industry and create millions of jobs. One country can not afford this alone it's worth billions of dollars and uniting reduce cost and create value.

Hope I'm wrong, but I feel like the EAF project is becoming ever more impossible. DRC and Rwanda are almost at war with each other. I have my doubts that EAC will be able to stabilize Somalia and look at them as a member of equal right. We see what the future reserves, maybe I got it wrong.

Ethiopia's economy is highly regulated and too closed off to foreign investors and would not align with EAC protocols. A lot has to change before that happens.

Somalia, Ethiopia, and such countries need to get their act together. A lot of times they shun the fact they are Africans and black and are the ones who cause bad press for Africa with famines, wars, terrorism, drought! We don't have time for childish behaviour

I'm afraid EAC might be dragged down by constant political and tribal fights in Somalia. Also the maritime dispute is another hot potato. How do you take your sister to court and still claim to be a family?

Somalia has serious security concerns and having open borders with that country could supply easy access of terror elements into the hinterland. Somaliland would have been a better addition.

Joining such organisation now is a big mistake. Somalia is weak, and weak institutions. They should prioritise lifting the arms embargo and developing a strong military first before they could talk about trade. A Corrupt Government joined a corrupt block. So unfortunate for the Somali people led by weak and bowing president..
